My dear friend’s father was an American GI in WW2. He was also born in prewar Germany raised there into his teens and emegrated to the USA as a young adult. Much of his family still lived in Germany when the war began. He joined the army and went to fight the NAZI’s. .He helped liberate the concentration camps. .. and he went further as did many other G I’s he looked for evidence of each of the German guards and if he found out they were NAZIs, he shot them. I asked him why he did that, after all these guards were fellow Germans…he said that after seeing what they did to innocent people in mass that justified a swift punishment. If they waited for these tribunals, many of these evil NAZI’s would have gotten away & filled Germany and Europe with evil demented killers. He had a point.
