Simple question for the Calvinists-- "Do you believe that God wrought David’s work in him related to the Bathsheba and Uriah affair?"
<snipped>
PS - I'm thoroughly enjoying this discussion. :thumbsup:
I don't like the term "irresistible grace " I find it misleading.
It doesn't mean God forces you to be Christian ...nor does it mean that grace cannot be resisted. So I like the term "efficacious grace "
So the Holy Spirit regenerates us, gives us a new nature. As a result, we naturally do what the new nature does : that is, we believe and repent of our sins.
I believe because of the heart of God, God chose David knowing what David would do relative to Bathsheba and Uriah. .....<snipped>
BTW not a Calvinist, but believe we will be saved through election.
I believe God tries his people to prove to them how much they love Him. David was in a high position being king of Israel so more was required of him as he was in the public eye. David committed sin, God brought the chastening rod on his life, the sword never left his house. I know of some today that justifies every sin they do. They will not hold themselves accountable for anything they do as they say God foreordained all things even the sin I commit. Rom 6:15-16 What then ? shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace ? God forbid. Know ye not to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey.Simple question for the Calvinists-- "Do you believe that God wrought David’s work in him related to the Bathsheba and Uriah affair?"

I consider myself in believing the Sovereignty of God, but there are many that believe this also that see some things differently than I do. Some believe you cannot be saved except you have believed under a sovereign grace preacher. Some believe you cannot be saved except you believe sovereign grace. Sovereign grace is defined differently by a SG preacher compared to what a free will defines it. I believe the five points as Calvin did but I don't believe in infant baptism. So Calvin would probably exclude me from his church.And do you consider yourself a Calvinist Salz?

as I am, PreachT. Well, I got home from Fremont, CA, a good 45 miles away, at about 10 pm., tired, sleepy (had to stop twice at Safeway's to rest), but well-fed with the word.
As I type this it is 5:20 a.m. here and we're (my wife and myself) getting ready to go back for another full day of praying, singing preaching, and the Lord's Table.
So, won't be able to post again.
But, BrotherPT, it's been wonderful sharpening iron with you.
I see "they've" transferred this to this forum and I'm glad it isn't the Cal-Arm forum because I VERY SELDOM post there as I do not like the spirit of some of the posters.
Catcha when I can, brother.
keep up the good fight of faith, EWF.
be with you soon as I'm able to.
He elected each and everyone of us knowing full well the things we will do, both "good" (no one good but God, remember) and evil. However, it was not His design for us to be evil, so He cannot be held responsible for that (as some will. not referring to you, brother).
Election, both unto eternal salvation, and time salvation, was done in eternity past, so it is, I believe, "we have been...." (although I am sure there are those who will jump at my throat on this....:laugh
will catch you when I can, soon, too, brother....
Now this is intriguing, seems no one that steadfastly claims to be a "CALVINIST" wishes to answer my earlier question....come on boys, it cant be that hard, so let me pose it again using some different words so you might grasp it:
Now did God “wrought” all of David’s works when he had the affair with Bathsheba and subsequently arranged for her husband’s death?
For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; Romans 8:20
Being David was a part of the creation I would answer, Yes to your question and here is why.
Consider:
For the creation (from the creation, I assume) was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; --- The hope of Rom 8:23-26
For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;
Was Adam created carnal? Was David carnal?
For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. Romans 7:14
For the creation (from the creation, I assume) was subjected to futility, Was Adam sold under sin at the creation, in being created carnal?
Before Adam was created was Adam going to need to be redeemed? Bought back, at a price?
Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 1 Peter 1:18-20
Is it the carnal body that is redeemed?
And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. Romans 8:23 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Cor 6:19.20
