'Prison-like' migrant youth shelter is understaffed, unequipped for Trump's 'zero tolerance' policy

I agree with Ken, this is a tragedy that children are separated from their parents.

As a child it happened to me and my sisters and brother, my stepfather went to jail for 2 years.

However I didn't let it happen to me and my children. I didn't commit crime.

“I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart.”

Opinion | Laura Bush: Separating children from their parents at the border ‘breaks my heart’

How come you didn't include the quote equating this to our internment of Japanese- Americans? Poor Mrs. Bush, she doesn't know her history and the law. The difference is those Japanese people interned during WW2 were American citizens and deprived of their rights, while today's issue concerns foreigners and the law that sets forth the treatment of these foreign nationals who show up uninvited at our border and demanding to be let in.

The law does not set forth separating children from parents. The separation policy is a policy, not a law.

It the law, when you as a parent are criminally charged you are separated from your children. It is the same for everyone in the US not just illegals. Further, illegal adults have been coming across using children not their own. Ice is finding out that many of them are not even related despite their claims. It looks like immigration attorneys are counseling illegals how to get across the board. Since Trump has started actually enforcing the law, now they are engaged in propaganda to put a stop to it.

I am so sorry to hear that happened to you.
Yes it was tragic.
More for my half sisters and brother than myself. All younger than me.
The Louisiana court sent me even further away. On the day my stepfather returned from jail I was sent to live with an aunt and uncle in California.
I had just turned 16.

We are discussing a misdemeanor, not a violent crime. If someone fails to turn on their blinker when turning, do you want them separated from their children?

That is a half-truth. The Law has provisions for releasing illegal immigrants (either as families or seeking asylum) with a court order to appear for their hearing. If they are detained in custody, then they must be separated. The POTUS has made a policy not to release illegal immigrants from custody, so the separation of children is required.

Did you read the news report that many of these 'parents' are sex traffickers and past administrations found they were returning minors to sex traffickers? That was the original reason for separating children from adults until actual parenthood could be confirmed.

Removing children from parents is bad. Leaving children with pedophiles is worse.

As usual, the marxist press (aka The Ministry of Truth) manipulates the facts and misrepresents the truth.

Problem for the Ministry of Truth: The Social Media, The World Wide Web, Facebook,Twitter, Blogs such as BB, etc...

And a POTUS who tweets!

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said on Monday that some "well-coached" people illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border are using children to pose as families to gain entry.

"From October 2017 to this February, we have seen a staggering 315 per cent increase in illegal aliens fraudulently using children to pose as family units to gain entry into the country," she told the annual National Association of Sheriffs meeting in New Orleans, the Daily Mail reports. "This must stop. All this does is put the children at risk."

I was, although it wasn't legal on 2 counts in Louisiana I was allowed to work in a Puerto Rican restaurant after school.
pelabo el camarón, sirvió cerveza y comida, lavé platos y trapeé pisos

Ya, the cerveza was illegal for me to even touch but cops ate at this place and they even knew my stepfather.
Hey it was New Orleans.

Yes I would have a beer at night when I mopped :)
