Ok, let's re-focus.
When my dh (before we were married) would tell me about his former pastor preaching against pants, I would ask, "how many got saved b/c of his sermon?" No one. Because those sermons focused on the external, temporary stuff. Yes, I believe we need to dress appropriately. And no, I wouldn't wear a bathing suit to church. But I would to a pool party.
And for the people wearing shorts to church in Hawaii--who cares! Y'all would probably be shocked to hear about the SB church our missions team attended while they were in Hawaii. There were women there who did a hula during worship. <gasp>. The man that told us that story was deeply touched by their ministry and he's in his 70's and an extremely conservative man.
I have a pastor friend who wears a T-shirt to preach in on Wed. nites.
Maybe, it's b/c I lived in California and was a (another gasp) pentecostal--but I am more concerned about someone's spiritual condition than their wardrobe.
Let's see someone put it this way that as fishers of men our job is to "catch them" and God's job to "clean them."
I believe as Christians we need to set the example, but not turn someone away b-c of how they are dressed. When they come to the Lord, I have found that the outward appearance does change somewhat.
So, we may have to agree to disagree on this one.
