Race Mixing in Marriage

Helen

Oh, I know that that is what is considered, Jailminister, but that is not the case at all. What are the Eskimoes? What are the American Indians (and they are of two distinct genetic groups, actually)?

And again, each of Noah's sons has within its list of descendants, those with very dark skin and those with very light skin.

So where do you draw the line? Where are the "races" actually different?

As has been said by me and others already, these three races are nothing more than genetic variation of the human gene. Nothing more. There's nothing in the Bible to suggest that these three races were "created" distinctly by God. Nothing in the creation story suggests it, nothing in the Babel story suggests it, and nothing in the Flood story suggests it. Additionally, there's nothing biblically to support the ridiculous and bigoted idea that people of different races should remain separate.

FYI - Eskimoes and Native Americans fall into the Mongoloid race (asian). But because of geography, they have also developed unique traits to their own subculture. Interestingly, Hispanics are a mix of mongoloid and caucasoid (spanish and indian, to be exact), and many Europeans are a mix of caucasoid and mongoloid, or caucasoid and negroid. Many middle easterners are a mix of negroid and mongoloid. The racial mix even extends to the ancient Hebrews (who most cerainly were not "white").

Most people who consider themselved "white" are anything but.

Anyhoo, I think you and I are on the ame page as this. I just thought I'd take the wind out of the sails of anyone who holds to the idea that separate races were distinctly created.

JohnV and Helen, did you read the article I referred to. If not please do so.
I had read it long before you posted to it. AIG, in general, has some accuracies, and some inaccuracies. Interestingly, the site you posted suggests racial variations occurred by natural selection, not by a one time creation.

Just for the sake of exercising the logic - let's think about other creatures. God created those too. There was a first male and female cat, a first male and female dog, etc. Yet look at all of the breeds there are. But cats are cats, and dogs are dogs. At the flood, the generations started all over again. Where did all of the breeds come from? For the purposes of this discussion, biologically speaking, aren't we making the point that people are people, but there are different "breeds?"
We allow animals to "crossbreed" all the time. If fact, it is allowed by choice and carefully monitored in the case of cattle, etc. in order to improve the meat and so forth. Now I'm not saying that we should try to "improve" or "keep pure" the breeds of people like that, no way. But considering the subject in this context does prove that people are people, and the races are not different "animals," so to speak. The races are just variety.
So there is nothing wrong with "mixing" races. God is interested in the heart.

It's amazing to me that a someone who calls himself a Christian in the 21st Century still holds to such a racist idea.

JohnV are you saying that God had nothing to do with the different races?

God had everything to do with the different races. It's called Providence.

However, the mere fact that God made some people black and some people white doesn't mean it is forbidden for black people and white people to get together and make little brown children.

It is still up to the one advocating the separation of the races to prove his case from Scripture, and from what Biblical argumentation I have seen on this subject, it simply doesn't wash.

My mom and dad were of mixed races and were ostracized at first by his parents for their marriage: Dad was a Jew and mom was Irish I think. Dad was Orthodox Jew, mom was Christian. They certainly had it pretty hard.

My wife and I are in a mixed race marriage as I am Jewish and she is Cherokee Indian, at least in part. There is no prohibition for mixed race marriages in the Bible. It is just a racist worldly philosophy from Satan. If you hold to this racist philosophy, you should repent immediately.

I'm saying God did not create separate races. God created one human race with the ability to pass on varying genetic traits.

The Bible does not support an idea that "separate races" were created by God, nor does it support any idea that people should be separated by "race" in any manner.

The reason that God caused the separation of the world population in the plain of Shinar at the tower of Babel no longer exists. The world has been replentished. This separation and isolation is responsible for the genetic variation and trait magnification that we see today. It is IMHO now time for people to put aside the notion of separation based on physical traits and come together in marriage based on their spiritual likeness i.e. two born-again believers of whatever national, cultural, etc background who know that it is God who brought them together.
God has shown us that there is a great deal of richness and diversity in His design and we thank Him for showing us that. Now it is time to overcome the prejudices that the diversity has caused. Prohibiting "Inter-racial" marriage is one of the worst of those prejudices (again IMHO).

I grew up in the Promised Land of Kentucky where, in my day, it was frowned upon.(hey, even the "P.L." had some flaws)--I have Pastor friend, who is church planting with Baptist Mid Missions in the Bronx, who is White, and his wife is a Black woman from Harlem. I know a lot of interracial marriages here in NYC, and in IFB churches, too! I have a KJVO Pastor friend, who is White and his wife is Hispanic. If I am correct, didn't Hyles Anderson College forbid this? (and I distinctly remember them promoting a White male missionary married to an Asian woman)It seems like they forbade Black/White relationships, but allowed other race mixing...a clarification would be appreciated. O yeah, did I mention that I am a White Pastor and my wife is Black? she's from the island of Jamaica, yeah, mon

I live in Canada so its not a problem. The problem in Canada is nothing seems to be a problem, but I'm happy to have the freedom.

Y'know, after some heated and contentious reading over The Passion, it warms my heart that we can be united in these far more essential issues.

Before God there is the human race, that is all, Amen!
