That type of shift is not necessary. Do we apologize to Mormons or JWs for translating passages that clearly show Jesus as God? Do we apologize to homosexuals for passages that condemn the sin? Do we apologize to atheists for translating Ps. 14:1 as, "The fool has said in his heart, 'There is no God'?" The truth is, the Word of God is living and powerful, and can overcome any Muslim objections to it through the power of the Holy Spirit.

In the semester that just ended, I had a former Muslim in my translation class who is planning a new version into the language of the Muslim country he grew up in, and he is not worried at all about the so-called offense of Jesus as "Son of God." In fact, he believes the existing Bible version to be influenced too much by Muslims; even thinks it may have been translated by a Muslim scholar.

is this an area where the Nida lexicon is used to supplement more traditional ones such as the BAGD then?

Not for me. I believe Louw/Nida to be inferior; besides that, it is really hard to use. (I have used it in both the digital version and the printed version.) You can see my review of it on Amazon.

I have found Louw-Nida to be pretty user friendly on Olive tree. All the hyper links take out all the work.

But do believe Louw-Nida to be less useful than BDAG, Friberg -ALGNT, Mounce-CED, EDNT and TDNT. I know these are all different animals, but at times Louw-Nida provide weird conclusions.

I do use those most frequently, yes. I have others. I do look at Louw-Nida regularly, but I consider the others above more trust worthy.

I do not think Louw-Nida is bad. You just have to use discernment at times....keep your guard up. There is often very good info to be found in Louw-Nida.

Do agree with you much easier in Software, as had to flip back and forth in indexes in my hard copies!

Agreed. I do like Friberg's definitions (as well as the others you mentioned). Being a missionary translator/linguist with about a dozen versions to his credit, he and the two ladies have done a great job in digging out the meanings.

I'm not familiar with Olive Tree. I have Louw/Nida on BibleWorks, and it is really hard to access there. Occasionally I try to look up something in it, but usually give up in despair.
