Yelsew. Man is not spirit. At least I cannot recall any Scripture saying "man is spirit". Man is body, soul, and spirit. Such who hold to the teaching called dichotomy of man say man is body and soul, and that spirit is used interchangeably with soul. I believe the Bible teaches man is a tripartite creature. In anthropology this is referred to as trichotomy, as you probably know. God is Spirit. Man is not.

From the Bible in John's Gospel: Ch. 6 is given first, and then ch. 1:

If man is not spirit, then Man is not made in the image of God who is spirit!
Some thoughts from Scripture:
To be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD (Paul)
The Father is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. (Jesus)
The Life of the flesh is spirit (Jesus) (note, when the spirit departs the flesh the flesh dies, and decomposes to the elements.)
The Flesh has nothing to offer (Jesus). (note, Jesus is identifying the flesh as worthless. He does not say that of the spirit)
No man can see God and live. In order to see God, we must be free from the impedements of the flesh. That means that we must be in the spirit.
There are other such references.
The evidence exists that our flesh dies, decomposes to the elements of the earth from which it was made. We believe the spirit lives on because it is eternal. There hasn't been a single Christian yet whose corrupted body is not where it was laid, in fact there is not a single human with the exception of Jesus who overcame death, and the two witnesses who were translated but will be returned to this earth to experience death, in keeping with "it is appointed unto man once to die, then the judgment!
God is Spirit. What would Spirit God who has spirit beings all around him need of corruptable flesh?

If Christ was resurrected in Spirit, then how did Thomas place his hands into the piercing of his side and his hands? A Spirit would not possess these piercings.
There is more proof (Biblical) of his bodily resurrection.

Thought I would post this here as a reply, if needed in order to garner attention I will start a topic. I don't think (in my time here) that we have discussed this passage much if any, what are your thoughts?
"Wherefore he
saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ
shall give thee light" (Ephesians 5:14).
Here we have the Word of God, the voice of the Shepherd, the dead hearing the voice of the Christ, and Christ giving light---all representing quickening of the Spirit, apart from the movement of man without the power of the Holy Spirit.
What thinkest thou?

Human beings are tri-part beings. We might forgive some for having wrong theology but it would be refreshing to see people who know the Bible. I Thess. 5:23 indicates that our whole spirit, soul and body would be preserved blameless at the coming of Jesus.
Think about it we are not only soulish, or bodish, if you will, but are supposed to be spiritual people as Christians.
It is because we are indwelled by the Spirit as His temples, though in bodily form, that God tells us to glorify God while here in our body, "and 'in your spirit.' which are God's." [I Cor. 6:20]
When a sinner invites Christ into his life, he or she becomes one spirit with Him. God speaking through the Apostle Paul said, 'But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit.' [I Cor. 6:17] When a non-Christian truly believes in Jesus he or she becomes one spirit with Him; this is why our security into Heaven is secured by Him and not us.
This is why Jesus said in John 5:24 that ' . . . he who believes on Him hath everlasting life.' God speaking through the Apostle John later in time did not change his mind and repeats the same idea in I John 5:13 where he says, 'These things have I written unto you who believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.'

Christ was in His spiritual body after the resurrection. This is how Thomas could see Him and place his fingers into His nail prints. Jesus was not like a free floating spirit with no human likeness. Our spiritual body in Heaven will be like the one He had after the resurrection. The apostles recognized their Lord and Savior, and we will recognize our loved ones and friends in the after life. We will be in mega ways different that we were on earth but we will have a human resemblance. Was it not the two men on the Emaus Road who finally recognized our Lord?

I don't disagree with what you are saying concerning our 'spiritual' bodies. My question prior to your post was 'who is the "he" in Eph. 5.14.
Otherwise I agree with what you have said concerning the resurrected body, unless I have misread your posts.

The Apostle Paul is contrasting the children of God and the children of the evil one, light and darkness, sinning from godliness, separation from making the sinner your closes friends. He speaks of the evil world and those who are now wise as to the evil ones's intentions toward the people of God.
Then in verse fourteen of Ephesians chapter five he makes a call to the sinners. 'Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.' We know that he is not speaking exclusively to the saints in Christ because we have already welcomed and received His Light. He tells them to arise out of their spiritual death lest they enter the regions of the damned. The wake up call has been sounded. They have to leave the world of death of this realm and have contrition/repentance and reach out and trust in Christ who will immediately give them light and life.
The Ephesian Church and we who are located around the country and world are also among those who have received, grace, light and life. Thanks be to God!
