Look, you made an obvious low-class trolling statement calling something, "Best news Ever!" on a Christian board. Then you got called on it, like you had to know you would be, since Gospel means Good News, which is hands up and Hallelujah! the "Best news Ever!"

All of your followup nonsense, especially all of your counterclaims and accusations, related to that is just more trolling. Perhaps you should start all of your posts with the refrain: "'Tis my reason, to spread folly, Troll-lie-lie-lie-lie-lie-lie-lie-lie."
Soros must be paying by the number of postings made!

Really? Just where is that "right" spelled out in the Federal Constitution?
Did you study the debate at The Constitutional convention? Slavery was dealt with extensively and The COTUS specifically did not deal with it thus leaving it to the states. Remember the 3/5ths compromise?

We will know that the Dems are serious when they take down the statues of Stephen Douglas, a northern Democrat racist deluxe who owned slaves in the South.

Not sure if he owned slaves - but Douglas reiterated his belief that the Declaration of Independence was not meant to apply to non-whites. He said, "this government was made by our fathers on the white basis ... made by white men for the benefit of white men and their posterity forever".[50]

Yes, , the cities of Douglas and Douglasville in Georgia and Douglas, Wyoming were also named for him. Yes, those cities should change their names! As well as many more in other States / Commonwealths

Rest assured that Douglas owned slaves. Even FTW agreed that he did.

The Democrat Party ought to be abolished for it's role in slavery, the Jim Crow laws, and segregation.

Gee, I wonder if they want to burn down Beauvoir, Jeff Davis's home in Mississippi? And how about the Manor House where Bobby Lee used to live at Arlington, shouldn't that also be torched? If we are going to cleanse the nation of things like statues of Confederates, let's go full bore and do it all the way.

Sometimes the details allow us to pronounce the version we prefer. I am glad y'all brought up Douglas, since I have never looked at him closely. Here's what I found that seems to be the most credible. Stephen Douglas married Martha Martin in 1847. Her father, Colonel Robert Martin, died the next year and left her a plantation in Lawrence County, Mississippi. Technically we could say Douglas did not own the property or any slaves, but that his wife did. However, for managing the plantation he received 20% of the income. I would say that goes in the "yes" column.

And I would say that a century and a half ago, the property would de facto be in the hands of the husband. Douglas was not much account.

The state of Mississippi passed the Married Women's Property Act in 1839, which gave married women the right to own property in their own names. However, I think the control of the property remained with the husband. So I think you are surely right about the de facto part.

Just to clarify - I had not seen where Douglas had owned slaves - thus the reason I stated "Not sure if he owned slaves -" The point I was trying to make was that Douglas has stated " the Declaration of Independence was not meant to apply to non-whites."
And this from a person from the North. (Born in Vermont - moved to Illinois in 1833.
Now, what would be interesting is what his thoughts before his wife inherited the slaves - and could it be his belief changed after the inherentence???

RLVaughn Appreciated your research on this!
