....I fully agree with you, it's not for the bystanders to accept apologies.

And BTW, ITL, to your point, I also think apologies should be directed to those you offended, not to the general public. Here is Kathy Griffin's apology. You'll notice she does't apologize to Trump himself, or his family. In fact, she continued to insult him afterward. She was actually apologizing to fellow liberals who thought the stunt was tasteless.

I would surmise you would agree with me on this also. Trump actually couldn't accept this apology because it wasn't directed at him.

Apologies should be accepted by those offended and issued to the offended. Otherwise it's all meaningless. But if this became the norm, what a healthy society we would be.

See Bill Marr!

Bill Maher can get away with murder.

But it's not really a good comparison. He compared Trump to an ape. Trump is white. He's fair game for today's race mongers.

To see what he could really get away away with, he'd have to compare ...oh, say...Justice Clarence Thomas to an Ape.

I doubt he would even have to apologize. He certainly wouldn't be fired.

and compare this to Rosanne's specific apology.

Roseanne Barr‏Verified account @therealroseanne
I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.

There's no comparison here.

No fan of Roseanne at all, she comes off too mean and crazy for me but I think they were just looking for an excuse to cancel this show. Her tweet was insane and offensive, but she has a long history of this kind of thing.

Bill Maher is worse, just another self-righteous comedian that will insult you and excuse it as "humor" but if you say anything negative to him, you're a homophobe, a racist, a bigot, an anti-Semite and all the other usual fake outrage.

So I guess Samantha Bee said something you guys can focus on for today, eh ?

I have watched Roseanne's stand up and show many times but I have only seen this crazy Canuck's show once, and that was enough. She's vile:

Two companies suspend ads from Samantha Bee's show after vulgar remark about Ivanka Trump

"Trump, he's such an idiot" (smirks)(canned laughter). "I mean, he's just scared of all brown people as if brown people bite!" (smirks)(canned laughter). "And people that worship a guy in the sky are so stupid for supporting such an idiot! Am I right, guys?" (smirks)(whoops)(laughter).

Roseanne can actually be funny and she's very talented (and crazy) and even Maher has timing down, but Samantha Bee is the worst. Thanks, State Farm.

As you know, Samantha Bee attacked a Republican while Roseanne attacked an obscure Democrat living in Obama's house for some strange reason.

Well....it is sad in a sense. I think it's sad for anyone who jumps out there and makes the mistake of being so derogatory not using words that build up and encourage but rather to insult. There's sadly no shortage of that in present society and it makes me wonder for a culture that likes to pride itself of much enlightenment or being advanced, well how low things can stoop. Rosanne obviously is in a state of hysteria....she's seeking to push every button and pull every lever to upright the ship....well don't think she's quite going to do that but perhaps it alleviates the pain she's in to at least try.

Here's a lady whose career I'd guess was pretty much over and then a show reboot blasts her into ratings high into the entertainment stratosphere only to see it come crashing down in an instant. I don't want to condemn her we can all make big mistakes but the idea that people have that they can be as outspoken as they want startle people with how bold one can be in being edgy...ah gee....it may sadly change ones life forever. I think we all need to learn that with words and not merely on a racial theme but any way we use words in a careless fashion....there can always be a price to pay.

Anyone who’s ever watched his show knows Bill Maher is one of the last true free speech advocates left.

I don’t want to make a hero out of him, I’m just saying he is a very consistent libertarian.

Except if you disagree with him, and that your free speech is tossed out, as that makes you a Homophobe, anti Muslm, Racist etc!

These Hollywood people should stay out of politics, no?

Why "should" any American stay of out politics? Americans "may" stay out of politics for lots of reasons - religion, work, because it is the second oldest profession and sometimes resembles the oldest, etc.

I don't watch him so give me more detail please.

He's big on free speech. He attacks college students that try to shout down conservative speakers on campus, for example. He welcomes debate, criticizes efforts to shut people up.

These Hollywood people should stay out of politics, no?

No, not necessarily. The problem is when people take them as being some kind of political policy expert when they're really just artists.
