I understand and appreciate the point you are trying to make. I think things like this happen when Christians get so consumed with the politics of this world. We need to always remember where our true citizenship resides.

Christians are citizens of this world while they live in it and they are to be the salt and the light for this world. We need to always keep that in mind and act accordingly. Endorsement of one candidate or another doesn't imply absolute endorsement of every position of that candidate. Where choices have to be made they have to be made or someone else will make them instead. The election of Brown was a victory and we should be happy about it. That doesn't stop us from praying for more Godly men to be sent from which we can chose in the future. That doesn't stop us from soundly rebuking any un-Godly legislation Brown or any other leader might propose.

I don't disagree with any of that. I don't want to speak for Roger, but I think maybe the point he was trying to make was maybe we should be guarded about the zeal we display over politics and some politicians in particular. And maybe also the consistency we display when doing so.

Here's the key "right" that hopefully will come of it: The pending health care legislation will most likely not be enacted. That is reason to be happy! God can, has, and does use evil men to accomplish His purposes. We should, for the moment, rejoice that this is, perhaps and hopefully, what has happened. We won something! Let's be happy about it! We should also pray that God will provide the people better choices of Godly men to select as the leaders for our nation. We should also pray that He will restrain the evil tendencies of all men including, where it fits, the one just elected and especially with respect to the gross evils of abortion and homosexuality. No where in any of this need we, or do we, condone anything evil that this Republican candidate might support if he does at all. We simply see it as a victory against the fraud that was imminent had the Democrat candidate won. We can be on the watch for what he does but, for now, let's give thanks at least for what did not happen. Imagine how sickening it could have been had the other candidate won.

Wow. Sour grapes abound, eh ?

First of all, I never called anyone a baby-killer. Second, he never posed completely nude. We have all seen more of Mark spitz than we have Scott Brown.. Third, celebrate ? Yer darn-tootin'!!!! This is death to the marxist hostile takeover of my beloved country. This is death to health care reform, cap & trade, illegal immigration amnesty, and regulatory plans, as they all stand right now.

Join with me for a day of thanks, and then tomorrow, we hold Senator Brown's feet to the fire.

Added....anytime we see Kieth Olbermoron's face stretched as long as it was last nite, it is reason to be a little gracious. And Kieth seems to think Brown IS anti abortion, and a supporter of traditional marriage.....

"In short, in Scott Brown we have an irresponsible, homophobic, racist, reactionary, ex-nude model, teabagging supporter of violence against woman and against politicians with whom he disagrees. In any other time in our history, this man would have been laughed off the stage as an unqualified and a disaster in the making by the most conservative of conservatives. Instead, the commonwealth of Massachusetts is close to sending this bad joke to the Senate of the United States."

The afforementioned K.O.

AMEN, AMEN & AMEN

One of the problems we've had in this country is that we conservatives have been too conscientious about seeking the "perfect" candidate, IE: one that espouses all our core beliefs.

The left NEVER had this problem. They were willing to get their agenda by demanding the ranch, but when rebuffed, settling for a couple of acres - thus making the right think they had won! This past Nov. they got the ranch.

We ain't gonna get the ranch back in one fell swoop either, so if we continue looking for that "perfect" candidate, accepting nothing less, it'll be in the millennium before we vote again - if then!

So be thankful to God for a shift in the direction we've been going, even if it ain't the direction we ultimately want to go! All direction changes begin with a degree or two of re-direction!!!!!!!!

The main thing now is to not get overly confident and/or complacent

CK4 gets bent out of shape if he thinks someone is attributing some event to God good or bad. It is really kind of odd.

Thanks: It Was The Lord...

Way to go out on the limb there.

I should have made this call a few days ago, but, I was not sure if it was the Lord, or my selfish hopes. BUT, it was such a loud voice within me, that I decided to make the call, then I turned on FOX an hour later and was elated to see he was leading. Then three hours after my call, the AP verified it [PTL].

Making a call like that, in the spirit, could get me stoned, especially by some of the people on this board

I'm not looking for the perfect candidate. One that doesn't support murder is good enough. Give me two guys...one that is a complete liberal, yet thinks abortion is murder and the other is a complete conservative, but thinks abortion is OK. I'll vote for the non-murdering liberal.

No, no, let's not get into that kind of stuff.

If I want a "word of knowledge," I'll watch Benny Hinn, and get my gout healed. (Not that I have gout, but you never know...)

The "God told me" kind of statements make me nervous.

It's Not Fortune Telling...

It wouldn't have been the Lord. The Lord generally doesn't engage people in fortune telling.

Only ignorance of the Gospel message would result in that kind of mocking. Paul, in his letter to the Church in Ephesus [Ephesians 4:11] remind us that,"His gifts were [varied; He Himself appointed and gave men to us] some to be apostles (special messengers), some prophets (inspired preachers and expounders), some evangelists (preachers of the Gospel, traveling missionaries), some pastors (shepherds of His flock) and teachers." ALSO See: Ephesians 4:10-12 (in Context) Ephesians 4 (Whole Chapter).

I know that I was called to preach in a different way, brother, and that way was to share a message that is "inspired to expound on the Word of God, and at times that is to dream dreams and see visions as spoke of in Joel 2:28, and Acts 2:16-18." That calling and office has been confirmed by brothers of the Gospel over the last 25 years.

It is not up to you to mock, make fun of, or, even judge. I know the gift I've been given, is of God, and though I questioned it for quite a few years, once I came to understand and except it, my ministry took hold, grew roots, and blessed thousands of people over the last 25 years.

I rebuke your humorous attacks on a God given gift to my chosen call and ministry. I advise you to knock it off, lest you be judged as a heretic {one who dissents from an accepted belief or doctrine}. Believe me, this word applies to those of you who have made light [mocking] of my comments. And, it is fact that you fit the description of the definition in that you are not willing to except what the Word teaches about the numerous offices of ministry He places upon His children. It is sin, and Scripturally impossible to limit the Lord; put God in a box; and deny His messengers. To do so will bring down judgment on you and your house!

This will be all I have to say in regards to this subject. However, as the Word instructs me to do, I shall pray for you, because I recognize that your growth in the Spirit, and the Kingdom of God on earth, has been somewhat retarded by your own small minds and religious skepticism of what God can do when we open our minds, heart and soul to ALL He has equipped the saints with, in order to get the job done here on earth.

Remember this: In Acts 2:17 we are told that "In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams." And yes, C4K, maybe God did give you a vision last week. So, instead of mocking it, you should try Praising and thanking God for trusting you with such a valuable word of knowledge!

All of you who have made light mocking of my comments about a vision and word of Brown winning this election, should not forget Paul's warning to the Church in Galatia (Galatians 6:7) "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.":wavey:

Apparently. The ends justify the means seems to be the new ethic.

I posting the same response here as I did on a similar thread to another poster:

Not true! Coakley absolutely supported so-called abortion "rights" and, in general, the Democrats do so to a greater degree than Republicans. The proposed health care legislation - at the least the last publicly available version I saw - included some additional support of expansion of abortion services. A vote for Coakley would have made the health care legislation almost certainly a sure thing. That, in turn, when have ignited a frenzy of liberal minded legislation from the Democrats intoxicated by such a victory. What happened instead has, at least for the moment, held back the health care legislation and probably has and will cause the Democrats to rethink where they stand with the people they're really suppose to represent and serve. Therefore, a wise and prudent Christian choice was to cast the vote for Brown recognizing the best outcome possible from the available choices. Nothing at all about doing that implies any support whatsoever for his views on abortion or homosexuality. Those battles must still be fought.

I have been amazed at the response and defense of this new Senator simply because he is a Republican. If he were a Democrat or were in favour of the health care bill he would have been attacked and lambasted here. Apparently political expediency overrides his support of the legalised murder of the unborn.

So let me get this straight. The American Religious Right now thinks it is good when a pro-abortion, pro-gay civil union former nude model is elected to the Senate?

Not the point in my mind - the point is the sheer joy the Religious Right exhibited on hearing the news of this baby killer being elected to office.

Hallelujah (not here, elsewhere) hardly seems an appropriate response.

If this were a Democrat woman who had posed nude for Pl@yboy in the 80'e does anyone really think the Religious Right would ignore it?

Oh really? The pics are already back everywhere.

Be that as it may, and I somewhat agree on the time frame, but if this were a Democrat woman who had posed for Pl@yboy we would not see this kind of forgiving spirit.

So it is okay to support a limited government baby killer now?

That is the point here Tom, what bothers me is not his victory, but that fact that so many Christians are literally rejoicing in this as a wonderful thing.

How can it be wonderful that yet another baby killer is elected?

President Obama has not killed any babies either, but that label is applied to him. Is there blood on the hands of those who supported Sen Brown?

My problem here is a lack of consistency on the part of the American Religious Right. The only issue here was health care. Nothing else mattered, not abortion, not his support for g@y civil unions, nothing. All of that is pragmatically acceptable as long as he opposes the current health care reform.

Pragmatism, like situation ethics and hypocrisy goes both ways apparently.

Sorry folks - I just can't rejoice over another baby killer on Capitol Hill :(

I just asked a question - is a pro-abortion, pro-gay civil union, former nude model acceptable to the American Religious Right?

I'll let you in on my reasoning in asking this question. When I got up this morning right after the results came in (about midnight EST) my Facebook was jam packed with friends from the 'religious right' amening, hallalujahing, and praising the Lord for His great victory in seeing this man elected. I have found my personal experience that what is reflected there is basically a general idea of how that crowd thinks.

I would have to question that seeing another baby killer elected is a victory for God's people.

I suspect that people rejoiced before they knew the problems with this man. My thought is that we need to be careful mixing what we may perceive as political victories with true spiritual blessings.

I have been amazed at the response and defense of this new Senator simply because he is a Republican. If he were a Democrat or were in favour of the health care bill he would have been attacked and lambasted here. Apparently political expediency overrides his support of the legalised murder of the unborn.

Scott Brown speaks, from his site:
Health Care
I believe that all Americans deserve health care coverage, but I am opposed to the health care legislation that is under consideration in Congress and will vote against it. It will raise taxes, increase government spending and lower the quality of care, especially for elders on Medicare. I support strengthening the existing private market system with policies that will drive down costs and make it easier for people to purchase affordable insurance. In Massachusetts, I support the 2006 healthcare law that was successful in expanding coverage, but I also recognize that the state must now turn its attention to controlling costs.

Economy
I am a free enterprise advocate who believes that lower taxes can encourage economic growth. Raising taxes stifles growth, weakens the economy and puts more people out of work. Our economy works best when individuals have more of their income to spend, and businesses have money to invest and add jobs. I have been a fiscal watchdog in the state legislature fighting bigger government, higher taxes and wasteful spending.

Energy and Environment
I support common-sense environment policy that will help to reduce pollution and preserve our precious open spaces. I realize that without action now, future generations will be left to clean up the mess we leave. In order to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, I support reasonable and appropriate development of alternative energy sources such as wind, solar, nuclear, geothermal and improved hydroelectric facilities. I oppose a national cap and trade program because of the higher costs that families and businesses would incur.

Education
I am passionate about improving the quality of our public schools. Accountability and high standards are paramount. I support choice through charter schools, as well as the MCAS exam as a graduation requirement. I have worked to ensure that all children have access to a quality education. I am a strong advocate for the METCO program, which provides lower income students with broader educational opportunities.

Immigration
I recognize that our strength as a nation is built on the immigrant experience in America. I welcome legal immigration to this country. However, we are also a nation of laws and government should not adopt policies that encourage illegal immigration. Providing driver’s licenses and in-state tuition to illegal immigrant families will act as a magnet in drawing more people here in violation of the law and it will impose new costs on taxpayers. I oppose amnesty, and I believe we ought to strengthen our border enforcement and institute an employment verification system with penalties for companies that hire illegal immigrants.

Veterans
As a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army National Guard, I am uniquely aware of the importance and sacrifice of our men and women serving in the military. I have been a vigorous supporter of legislation providing benefits to returning service members, as well as, benefits for the families of those killed in action. I believe we need to recognize the sacrifice of all of our servicemembers by keeping better track of returning military personnel so they get the services they deserve. That includes providing them with first-class medical care and other benefits to which they are entitled. I am known as a leader on veterans' issues through my work on the Veterans and Federal Affairs Committee, the Hidden Wounds of War Commission, and the Governor's Task Force on Returning Veterans.

Gun issues
I support the Second Amendment and believe that citizens have the right to keep and bear arms as a basic constitutional liberty. I support safe and responsible gun ownership.

Death penalty
I believe there are some crimes that are so heinous that they deserve capital punishment. Our Government should have the ability to impose the death penalty in cases where it is justified.

Abortion
While this decision should ultimately be made by the woman in consultation with her doctor, I believe we need to reduce the number of abortions in America. I believe government has the responsibility to regulate in this area and I support parental consent and notification requirements and I oppose partial birth abortion. I also believe there are people of good will on both sides of the issue and we ought to work together to support and promote adoption as an alternative to abortion.

Marriage
I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. States should be free to make their own laws in this area, so long as they reflect the people's will as expressed through them directly, or as expressed through their elected representatives.
Israel
Israel has made enormous sacrifices in an attempt to secure peace – including unilateral withdrawal from Gaza. I support a two-state solution that reaffirms Israel’s right to exist and provides the Palestinians with a place of their own where both sides can live in peace and security. As our closest ally in the Middle East, Israel lives every day under the threat of terror yet shares with America a dedication to democratic ideals, a respect for faith, and a commitment to peace in the region. Until a lasting peace is achieved, I support the security barrier erected by Israel which has proven successful in protecting Israeli civilians from terrorist attacks.

Iran
I support the bi-partisan Iran sanctions bill and believe that until Ahmadinejad gives up his nuclear ambitions he should be isolated from the rest of the world. With its reckless pursuit of nuclear weapons, Iran represents the biggest threat to Israel. Ahmadinejad is a Holocaust denier who has threatened to wipe Israel off the map. Meeting with him confers legitimacy when the only correct response is to treat him as an outcast. A personal meeting with Ahmadinejad, as suggested by my opponent, would embolden him and be used as a propaganda tool to strengthen his position.

[Aside]As a Brit, can I just say how disconcerting it is to see headlines like "Brown wins election"; it's really not what we're used to...[/as you were]

Followup to post 98

Continuing from post #98 in this thread:

Joe Kennedy is FOR same sex marriage. He's made no issue statements regarding abortions. He is for repeal of DOMA (defense of marrage). He is FOR state regulation of the use of marijuana, and adult use allowed in restricted amounts of possession and use. Yes he does have SOME favorable points but these are not them.

OTOH
Scott Brown, whom C4K refers to as a 'baby killer'.....
is for defining marriage between a man and a woman... for DOMA..... against health care reform on a national level ......is for parental notification of minors and against partial birth and late term abortions. Yes.... he has SOME disagreeable points in as much as he would support a recognition of same sex 'civil unions' for legal and tax purposes; he would encourage reduced abortions and promote adoption alternatives as opposed to taking a stand to turn back Roe vs. Wade.

According to VCY America on Jan 20th.... Scott Brown has taken a stand against embryonic stem cell research. His softness on abortion has to do with his perspective on choice regarding incest, rape, and endangerment of the mother.

None of the candidates represent a choice against abortions. Scott Brown did not present the same enthusiasm as BHO regarding supporting, funding and expanding stem cell research or partial birth abortions.

I think, C4K, your position and characterization of Christian conservatives in this thread is extreme and prejudicial and unfairly represents the areas in which we are thankful to God when considering the choices represented by these candidates in this particular election....... and you are not fair in your representation of Scott Brown at this point.
-----------------------
The election is over and, hopefully, he will make a difference against this health care bill ..... and hopefully will present a strong force for other conservative values in the Senate. What we do have for now are our hopes: We will have to watch to see what happens....... and we'd better not hold our breath no matter how promising we think a person could be.

Personally, I'm grateful and thank God that He raised up some opposition to this current administration. I also realize it is nearly impossible to stop a hemorrhage with a bandaid.
