The TRUE "beast" hasn't yet come. He will be ONE MAN & his empire, not a line of men as are the popes. While his sidekick, the "beast from the sea", might well be a pope or other RC official, the TRUE beast won't recognize any god but himself.

I agree with your interpretation. In my understanding, your interpretation is correct, perfect. But let me add more some details, perhaps this can broaden the perception or vision we have on our great enemies,
which we have to face while we are living here at this end of time.
Revelation 13 reveals LITERALLY the existence of TWO sequencial powerful and devilish Beasts, which would go to rise upon the earth by the spirit of antiChrist that was already working against the Lord's Church since the beginning of the Church
(1John 2:v.18-20 is an important reference). The 2nd Beast will come yet in his own time. 2Thessalonians 2:v.6
How could or can the true Christians identify the FIRST Beast, a religious and devilish MONSTER of 7 heads and 10 horns? Revelation 13:v.1 and 17:v.7

THE GREAT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE LORD'S CHURCH AND THE CATHOLIC CHURCH FALSELY DENOMINATED AS A CHRISTIAN CHURCH
The Lord's Church - such as a Woman - since the beginning she has the person of JESUS Christ as her only bridegroom and husband. In fact this religious and devilish spiritual MONSTER has 7 heads, but to know on this only literally is not enough,
what matters is identifying what these 7 heads are.
Not me, but the Word of God says that the 7 heads (of this religious MONSTER) are 7 mountains and 7 kings. Revelation 17:v.7
Therefore, now what matters is identifying what are these 7 mountains, on which the woman - the Whore which rides upon the Beast - sits, and also who these 7 kings are. By the way, one of the 7 heads
(7 mountains) will be mortally wounded. Strange, no? Can or may a mountain be wounded? Oh no, of course not. But now, what matters is identifying what these 7 mountains are. Furthermore, the 7 heads of the FIRST Beast make part of the Red Dragon's body
(Revelation 12:v.3)

1 - The 7 HEADS OF THE BEAST
The Word of God says: "Here is the mind which hath wisdom. (our God will never agree with speculations, presumptions or conjectures) The 7 heads are 7 MOUNTAINS on which the woman sitteth. Revelation 17:v.9
THE SEVEN KINGS WITHIN RELIGIOUS STRUCTURES OF THE BEAST - THE PAPACY & RCC
2 - THE 7 KINGS
Revelation 17:v.10 - And there are 7 kings: 5 are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. (In fact 42 months, no more, no more)
These 7 kings make part of the body of the woman, they are linked or included within the body of the the Great Whore. Again: what matters is identifying who these 7 kings are.
Who are them? They are included within the body of the the Great Whore, the Roman Catholic Church.
1 - IDENTIFYING THE 7 HEADS OF THE FIRST BEAST WHERE THE GREAT WHORE - the RCC - SITS.
THE 7 HEADS ARE 7 MOUNTAINS - IT MEANS TERRITORIAL AND SPIRITUAL STRUCTURES OF THE FIRST BEAST AND THE WOMAN THAT RIDES UPON THE BEAST - THE RCC
But there is another important detail to be analyzed for better and good interpretation: Revelation 17:v.15 - 15 And he saith unto me, The WATERS which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
So, besides the 7 mountains there are also these WATERS where the whore sitteth, that are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. Where do these peoples, and multitudes, and NATIONS, and tongues are located?
They are located in (1)Europe, and (2)Asia, and (3)Africa, and (4)Oceania(Australia), and (5)North America, and (6) Central America and(7) South America. These are the 7 heads of the Beast where the WHORE SITS, which is ruled and guided by the Beast in these 7 regions of the Earth. The RCC - the Whore - which rides upon the Beast of 7 heads and 10 horns - the Papacy - is enthroned in Rome, in the great Vatican City.
But there is an interesting detail to be focused: Revelation was written around the year 95 or 100aD. AT THAT TIME were known only Asia (1) , and Europe(2) , and Africa(3).
Oceania(Australia)(4), and North America(5), and Central America(6), and South America(7) were not known at that time.
But our God is Omniscient and the testemony of JESUS is the Spirit of prophecy, therefore, the future existence of these last four regions - Oceania(Australia), and North America, and Central America, and South America were foretold predicted prophetically.
So, the 7 heads of the FIRST Beast are 7 mountains on which the Woman - the Roman Catholic Church - sits, it means where the TERRITORIAL STRUCTURES of the Woman - the RCC - was and is built and is established until this present time. Another interesting detail: Why was written "the 7 heads are 7 mountains"? Now, now, it is because at that time or near two thousand years ago the Earth was not known as it is today, evidently, today we say they are continents.

What to say about the spiritual structures of the Beast - the old Papacy?
SPIRITUAL STRUCTURES OF THE FIRST BEAST AND OF THE WOMAN - THE RCC
It is written that the Woman - the Roman Catholic Church - sits also upon many waters (nations) as is written in Revelation17:v.15: - 15 And he saith unto me, The WATERS which thou sawest, where the WHORE sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
As we all can see, besides the TERRITORIAL STRUCTURES of the WHORE identified in the Scriptures as 7 MOUNTAINS, there is also her SPIRITUAL STRUCTURES within the nations of her TERRITORIAL STRUCTURES, so let us be sure that the HEAD of the Beast which will be wounded to death is in the spiritual sense and not territorial, of course, and this prophecy will fulfil LITERALLY from now on, and the HEAD which will be wounded mortally is South America with its population, beginning by the country named Brazil.
