I personally don't care who belongs to the Masons(wheher they be Saint or sinner, they need to stay away from this stuff, I mean), whether it be deacons, elders, laymembers, etc. They do not need to mix "light" with "darkness". We are not to do things in secret, so if the Masons are on the "up-and-up", why the need to be a secret order? The bible states to not let your good be evil spoken of, to not cast your pearls before the swine, to watch and pray, keep yourself unspotted from the things of the world, whereby through temptation ye may overcome. I think that the Masons fit all of these criteria, if you ask me......so no, they have no right to be associated with the Masons if they are CHRISTian.

What Freemasonry does…
Simply, Freemasonry builds and advances the character of men to make them better.
Building on principals of moral integrity, Freemasons hold brotherly love as paramount to the benefit of mankind. Whether through charitable acts, or by direct involvement, Freemasonry has dedicated itself to the prosperity of mankind.
On the individual level, Freemasonry builds on moral philosophy, through allegorical symbols to impart rich and complex meanings about the divine. What that means is through Masonic education, individuals are given their own personal building blocks to contribute to the build of their own personal moral character, and then charged with applying that purpose in their day-to-day life.
It does not act to impart religion to its membership, instead it builds on the tenants and virtues taught by all religions, including a faith in the divine, the application of the Golden Rule, and the value of leading a moral virtuous life, all with the drive to put these ideas into personal practice. It promotes the active participation in the member’s individual faith tradition, charging them to build their spiritual character.
Throughout the mason’s life, the lessons of morality and ethics are revisited through the extensions of the various bodies of Freemasonry, building on the principals of Freemasonry. Seldom can a mason say they have learned all of the meanings taught to them through the degrees.
By serving to promote brotherly love masons are now involved in extended levels of charity and benevolence to meet the needs of those least able in society.

I am glad to clear things up.
I have read some of the responses here, and I would like to clear up some misconceptions.
First, Masonry is not a secret society. Far from it. If you look up Freemasonry on Google, you will get 1,400,000 hits. There are thousands of books and websites, where you can learn all about Masonry. The organization bends over backwards to help people learn about it. We hire publicists, and publish pamphlets and manuals. We host open houses, at our lodges ,where people can visit , and learn all about Freemasonry.
I personally sponsored the legislation, to enable the Kentucky department of motor vehicles to make official Kentucky masonic vehicle license plates. Masons wear rings, ballcaps, belt buckles, jackets, all kinds of identification. Masonic buildings are clearly marked, meeting times are published. Secret? no way!
Many (not all) of the founding fathers were Freemasons. Ben Franklin, George Washington, Paul Revere,etc. all Freemasons. 14 of the USA presidents have been Freemasons. Freemasons were responsible for the founding of the first taxpayer-supported public schools in the USA, which extended education for all. Freemasons sponsored the first protestant Missionaries in South America.
Freemasonry is definetly not Christian. Men from many different faith backgrounds and religious traditions join Freemasonry. Only an avowed atheist can not be made a Mason. Freemasonry does not state that all religions are equal. Masonry wisely, stays out of all religious debates. Freemasonry only states that all men are equal.
There are very few secrets in Freemasonry. The only secrets are the modes of recognition: Handshakes, passwords, etc. Even these are broadcast on the internet.
Consider a football team. Practice sessions are held in private, closed to the public. But on Saturday afternoon, the team is on the field, in front of thousands at the stadium, and millions on TV. Freemasonry is like that. Our meetings are closed to members only, but what we learn in our meetings, is broadcast to all the world, outside of the lodge room.
Masons are your neighbors, your friends, your co-workers. One of the finest Masons I know, is a retired Baptist minister. Masons serve as pastors, teachers, deacons, in Baptist churches, and in all Christian denominations.
Take some time to learn the truth. It will surprise you.

The Masonic "family" of organizations disburses about $2.6 million dollars per day in North America alone, in various charitable and humanitarian causes. We provide college scholarships for needy students, and free medical care in our hospitals. We sponsor research into all types of diseases: Atherosclerosis, Schizophrenia, Diabetes, Spina bifida, etc. We provide free eye surgery in our Knights Templar foundation program.
The Knights Templars sponsor a program to send Christian ministers to Israel, to visit the Holy Sites, entirely free. The Grotto, provides free dentistry to handicapped children. The Tall Cedars of Lebanon, sponsors research into degenerative muscle diseases, such as muscular dystrophy.

First, NO! A Christian cannot be a Mason and yet be faithful to God. God is not about "anthropological" efforts to create utopia. That is antithetical to God on the highest order, and akin to the Tower of Babel.
Second, you suggest that the Masons are not a secret society. Please recite here on the board the pledge you took to become a member of the Lodge. Note that according to that (those) pledges, you will suffer an horrendous death for revealing them to the general public.

His name is Charles E. Martin, and he has been here for a while, since "06" according to his join date. As of now he has only posted 8 posts and he gives his name in one of the very old ones.
I know this guy from CARM forums (another Christian site like this one)and he is a die hard Mason. You can find him under the cult section at CARM.
One thing I have noticed about him, He is dedicated and the more you speak out against the lodge the more he speaks out for it.
As for me personally, I once was a mason, but since left. I will say this for it, If a person is not going to become a Christian, then masonry is a good alternative. I mean if one is not going to come to Christ then we would want our fellow citizens to live a good moral life style before they die and go to hell. That's not saying just because one is a mason they are lost, as even many "so called Christians" will split hell wide open, but who knows, they might actually read the Bible they take an oath on and get saved.
What got me out was the oaths, and Charles may remember me when I say this. If one takes a death oath to kill someone for revealing secretes (which they do), that would make him a murderer and if he takes the oath with no real intentions of going through with carrying the oath out, that makes him a liar. Of which neither inherit the kingdom of God.
My question to any mason is, Where does the Bible teach the believer to murder, lie, or take a death oath?
So should any Christian be involved with the Masons or other lodges? My answer to me is, NO!
Free Masonry is evil and no Mason should be allowed to be in leadership in a church.

Do you Brethren take this blood oath given to us of Christ as literal? how many of you have offended in sight and plucked your eye out? How many of you have offended in hand and cut off your hand? How many of you have offended in your walk, (by foot) and cut off your foot?
How many of you really only speak grace with your lip but in your heart have no knowledge of it?
Maybe a mason will read the Bible which he swears an oath on and 'get saved' before he splits hell wide open, of course there are many Christians who will split hell wide open too...paraphrase...this is the same class people????

I know of an Evangelical Free church that voted against letting a Mason become an Elder. He was very well known in a large city. His family was connected in a fair amount of politics, with high ranking and/or elected positions in the city. He had a kind and friendly demeanor.
His family had been in this church for generations. A good part of his large extended family left the church when the members voted that he could not become an elder.
The reason the members voted "NO" was because he was a Mason.
I think the members absolutely did the right thing in voting NO.

I would not argue with that, but if a man wants to be a mason that is not even a Christian then that is none of my concern.
We recently went through a change of preachers. I made it known to one of the members on the pulpit committee that I would not sit under a mason. And further more if the church did elect a man that happened to be a mason then I would find another church to attend. He was not.
After he was settled in I asked his opinion of the lodge. Long story short, he felt the same as I do. He went on to tell me about his dad being in the lodge and how high up he had gotten. After his dad got saved he got out of it.
