Should some beats be avoided?

This is complete subjectivity, though.

What you will call a "rock beat," others will say is easy listening. What you will say "sounds like blues," others might liken to country. Who's right?

That way, when I want to say something to you, I'll say, "Mary, would you please tell sopranette that she's being childish and immature?", or you know, whatever it is I want to say. Then, you can say your brutal retort to Mary and she'll repeat it to me. I'm sure it be something like "I'm made of rubber and you're made of glue. Then, I'll be very hurt and will run home crying to my mommy and you'll have told me, yes sir, and I'll make sure never to post in any thread in which you have posted since you obviously own the BB.

I have, in a youth rally... and I can say.. I HATED IT!!!
My sons went to a Seventh Day Slumber concert last month, and they loved it!!! I hated it.... There is a video of a local band on youtube when they played for our youth camp last yr... I will try to find the link...
and you will see me just sitting there, not enjoying it....

I can't stand that type stuff, but some do...
And I am mature enough to know it is my opinion...

BTW, There are Christian Songs appropriate for worship, and some that are not.. some are just for entertainment...
A wise person knows the difference, within the culture God has placed that person to serve...

This band is called Explicit Faith.. and this was their first gig...
It was an optional concert our youth could attend.. When the camera pans back at about 30 seconds, you can see me.. the old man sitting on the right side of the screen with the blue shirt on that says "Wild about God"

That was one night that I wish I could have really went somewhere else!!!
Man were they bad! But it was their first gig...

Here is a link about a month later where they are playing at a local park.. They are somewhat better... and from what I hear from my sons, they are getting better all the time... I was watching this link and noticed the disco ball, and just had to laugh!!!

Please don't come down hard on me.. as I said, if I had it to do over they would never have been invited to even come... but we learn from our mistakes... (BTW, I didn't invite them.. my partner in crime.. co director did)

tinytim the second link you provided was pretty good. It does sound like they are getting better. Though I couldn't hear the words, the beat and music was pretty good. I could worship to this.

I liked their music, but somehow it doesn't seem quite in sync yet. They appear to have a lot of potential.

 

CCM being the music of the world, is merely a product of Warrenism gone wild, but in these last days I wouldn't expect any less.

I should point out though that every song does not have a beat, the good songs you are mentioning have melody without a beat. Beats appeal to the flesh, melodies appeal to the spirit. Those void of the spirit require a beat to whip them up for 'worship'.

Well, now that you have posted that, dont you feel like you should post again a take it back?

I mean, in all honesty, thats just plain silly.

Some of the best praise and worship music I have ever heard..(or been part of as a guitar player)..is praise and worship where the drummer has that "back beat" just poppin to beat the band! Particularly if its during a nice tasty lead guitar or sax or piano solo being played for God.

God can really move into music like that. GOOD stuff!

In my musical training (it's only a bachelor's degree, no masters or doctorate there), I have learned that EVERY song has a beat. Every song has meter. Some are slower. Some and steady. Some are faster. Some are simple. Some are complex. But every song has one. That little fraction at the beginning of the music line defines the meter or beat.

Apparently, some music has a meter or beat that you don't approve of. Well, guess what? Best I can tell, you don't get to make the decision as to what is proper or not in the big world of music, or even the realm of Christian music.

Who are you to question someone's salvation by the type of music the use for worship? Are you the Holy Spirit? I think not (in fact, I know not).

 

The heathen require a beat to ‘worship’. The church is meant to be a place for edification of the saints, not entertainment of the heathen. A wise pastor will not conform to providing for the fleshly needs of those who are not meant to be there. Having removed one of the means of drawing the heathen into the sanctuary, the wise pastor will then have one less problem in bringing forth the message God intended he should bring to the saints. Unfortunately most churches are now run as businesses and filled with heathen customers who must be given what they want.
