Just one more quick point. Jesus was speaking to those still under the Law. The law had been twisted into something it was not intended to be. Jesus was correcting the false assumption that it is what we 'do' that makes one defiled, where as the truth is we are defiled because of who we are.

However, just because a person is saved does not mean they no longer contend against sin or the flesh. Contrarily, Paul states the spirit and flesh battle continually, and the believer because we are still in the flesh are therefore still prone to sin, if we choose not to walk in the Spirit.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that your answer is so criptic that when compared to the rest of scripture I am unsure of what you are trying to say

No I was just pointed out scripture of what Jesus said defiles a man. It is what comes out of the man that defile the man. That is the reason he said this to the pharisees .Mt 23:25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the CUP and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Mt 23:26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the CUP and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. I never said that the sins Jesus said on that verse was a sin unto death.I said a sin unto death is a spiritaul death and we all know what causes a spiritual death. And I still believe a Christain can't go out and commit them sins that Jesus did say in that verse. I think a man that commit these thing has never known God. He is not born again and he is of the devil. And just because you are justified by the blood of the lamb does not mean you can commit these thing and go to heaven. It is a lie. If you commit these things you will go to hell. God did not die to justifie you to keep on commiting sin. There is something wrong here if you think That you can commit these things and be justife to go to heaven after doing it. Christain or not.

Are you under the law if you do these things.Mt 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
Ro 2:13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
1ti 1:9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

    1ti 1:10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;
Ga 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: (so that ye cannot do the things that ye would).

(Ga 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law).

Ga 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Ga 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

Ga 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that (they which do such things) shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
So if you are lead by the flesh you are under the law right and the works of the flesh are shown and what is it that you cannot inherit if you do these things. (The Kingdom of God) Let me ask you a ? Are you lead by the spirit if you do these things that are in Ga 5:20 and 5:21

Charles, go take a theology class... It will help you quote scripture in context, and will help you keep the scripture you quote in line with the rest of the Bible.

You need to be able to distinguish timing issues in the Bible...

I would recommend Millard Erickson's books on Theology
He is a solid theologian, and you can really learn some things from him.

Just picking verses in and out of context is not proving you case...

Set down and make a logical case as to why a Christian is unable to sin certain sins, but is able to sin in other ways...

We have the freewill to sin.. God doesn't magically keep us from getting drunk. If you drink enough, whether you are a Christian or not, you will get drunk.

Your accusations do not condemn me because I don't want to get drunk.. I have no desire to...

But you are infering that because I got drunk in 1992 that I wasn't saved in 1978... so what was I for 12 yrs?...
    Christ knew I was his.

Because I am justified by Christ's blood, I do not want to sin...
Do you even know what the word "theology" means?

    Your piece-meal theology is dangerous...
Learn how to rightly divide the Word before you try to teach others.

Please take some classes at a local Bible college, or find some church that offers theology classes, and actually study for yourself.

Like I said, get an education before you try to instruct people what the Bible says..

Tell us what is your theology of salvation?
Explain to us your belief of Justification, Sanctification, and Glorification.
    When does each occur...

What about Adoption, how does that affect your life.

Are you more Arminian or Calvinist...

In your theology, which view of atonement do you hold?
Socinian, Moral=influence, Governmental, Ransom, or Satisfaction?

Do you explain Atonement as a sacrifice, substitution, or reconciliation?

    Explain propitiation...

    Which view is more biblical?

Unless you can explain each of these questions, Don't try to instruct me!
I KNOW what I am talking about....

I can explain what I believe.. IN MY OWN WORDS... not just quoting scripture out of context....

So go ahead, if you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch....

Does drunkeness send you to hell?
    What sin does not?
What sends a person to hell is the rejection of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, nothing more and nothing less.

"He that hath the Son hath life; he that hath not the Son of God hath not life" (1Jn.5:12). It is as simple as that.

But let's address the sin problem. What if it was possible to get to heaven by not sinning? First of all you would be creating a works religion. A religion not of grace; not of faith, but of works. If in any way my future sins are not under the blood of Christ and already forgiven (even drunkeness) then you believe that salvation is by works and take away from the sufficiency of the atoning blood of Christ. You, by default, say that the blood of Christ was not enough to cover all of our sins. It is the same reasoning that the RCC uses in order to create Purgatory.

    What is sin?
1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

It is a transgression of the law--God's law; any of them, all of them--even to think evil of thy neighbor for example.

"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
--Sin is coming short of God's glory. It is missing the mark. Have you come short of the glory of God? Are you as holy as God is holy? Or have you missed the mark of his holiness?

How much difference is there between drunkeness and a little white lie?
--James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

James emphasizes that it is just as bad to lie as it is to commit murder. All sin is the same in God's sight. God does not differentiate between sins. Why? Because everyone of them are a transgression of His law. Some may have a greater consequence on this earth. But all break his law.

Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
--Consider carefully the meaning of this verse.
Paul writes that the one who does not continue in all things which are written the law is cursed. That means from the time of understanding or accountability, every day, 24 hours a day, there cannot be one sin that you commit, whether by ommission or commission all the days of your life right up to death. You must be absolutely perfect in your life. Just one small lie, one evil thought, will send you to hell. You are cursed under the law by one sin. You must, from birth to death continue in all things under the law to do them. You cannot sin even once.

The truth is that we sin every day. We cannot keep the law throughout every day of our entire lives if we are honest with ourselves. Jesus defines the law in Matthew chapter five. Adultery, for example, is not just the act, but rather looking on a woman to lust after her in your heart.
Murder is not just the act, but being angry with your brother.

What about your thought life in comparison to sins like drunkeness?

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
    4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds, 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Do you cast down every imagination that is ungodly bringing into subjection and into obedience of Christ.
And likewise, every high thing (proud thought) that comes into your mind, do you control your thought life perfectly throughout your Christian life? Do you bring every thought into obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ?

If not, that sin is just as bad as gluttony. God does not differentiate between sin. And someday, before the judgement seat of Christ you will give account of yourself.

Here is my Doctrinal stance on Salvation.. .It is from my ordination paper.
One I developed by working through theology....
I don't expect others to believe like I do, but I can at least answer why I believe something... without just throwing out scripture out of context....

    Bingo.

Charles, you've just posted lists of sins. Are all of those "sins unto death?"

If so...are you then saying that if you commit the sins of wrath or strife, that these are "sins unto death"--are you saying that Christians cannot commit these sins?

    That's what it sounds like.

Before I'm accused by another poster (not you, Charles, but another one--he's done it before)--I'm not looking for an excuse to sin. I'm just trying to nail down how we theologically arrive at the list of stuff that Christians cannot do.

Imagine how much that would help in counseling someone: Here's a list of sins...you see any on there you've done? Then you're not a Christian...

Good grief... No one is claiming this. :tonofbricks:

    We understand Romans 6, folks!

Obedience is to keep his commandments. There is two diffrent sins Ones that are unto death and ones that an't. (Spiritauly) Such that are born again cannot sin spiritauly. That is the reason for this verse1jo 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth (IN HIM): and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. He cannot commit sin spiritauly because his seed remaneth in him. That seed is Jesus Christ.
1jo 3:3 And every man that hath this hope (IN HIM) purifieth himself, even as he is pure. Is getting drunk pure.Is commiting adultery pure. Is lieing pure. and all other thing contrey to Gods will pure. Go look on my post at the first page . The bible explain that there are two diffrent sins. One that is unto death and one that an't. I give you the word of God.
2ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and (doctrine).

    2ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

2ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Sin is: The bible defines sin in one of three ways....

    Sin can be defined as:
    1) Missing the mark,
    [1] that is, to deviate from the standard of holiness that God has set;
    2) To go beyond the limit of righteousness that is established by God,
    [2] and
    3) To distort what is right for the purpose of ones self.
    [3]

There you go again, quoting scriptures that have nothing to do with your belief on sin and salvation...

Although it is clear that you are not enduring sound doctrine, but have been indoctrinated with a warped view of salvation...

Either we trust Christ completely... To justify us from all sin.. or we don't have a savior.

If Christ saved you, he keeps you saved.. EVEN if we sin...

Oh, and where in the Bible does it say there is sins (PLURAL, meaning more than one... you know, like 2 or more... ) unto death...

I thought it said there is A sin unto death... you know, the singular article in the English language...
    1 John 5:16
    (16)
If any man see his brother sin a sin [which is] not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
"a sin" means one sin... in this sentence it is clear there is one and only one... so which one....because the word "it" is also a singular word...

If there were more than one it would read, "there are sins unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for them"....

So, Charles, which ONE sin is the sin... you had better know, because you might have committed it today, and that would mean you were never saved....:BangHead:

OK, rbell, this might be a little easier for Charles to understand, as he don't have to go through the big ol, long list you provided....

He only has to name ONE sin that will override Christ's blood...

Obedience to keep HIS commandments. Have you done that. If you haven't you have condemned yourself. One of his commandments is recorded in Luke 18:1

"And he spake a parable unto them to this end that men ought ALWAYS to pray and not to faint."
--Are you always in prayer? If not you have condemned yourself. That is one of HIS commandments.

Here is another one of HIS commandments.
John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Do you love your Christian brothers even as Christ loved you? Do you really do that? Can I ask those that are close to you for evidence if you love those whom you come in contact with just as much as Christ loved you? If not, you have condemned yourself.
This is only according to you; not accordint to the Bible.
What is a sin unto death. You are confused. First, all sins are "spiritual" as all sins are against God. All sins have a consequence, some greater than others. The death that is spoken of here is a physical death. Examples:

--Annanias and Sapphiral lied, and God killed them.
--The Corinthians abused the Lord's Table, and 1Cor. 11:30 says that as a result some were weak, some were sickly, and some were dead. That was a sin unto death.
--God determines what a sin unto death is. It can be any sin, even a lie as Annanias and Sapphira found out. Sometimes God, out of his mercy will take a believer out of this world before he continues on in his sin, and will have to give even a greater account of himself before the judgement seat of Christ. Thus in that respect it is an act of mercy. In another respect it is judgement. When a believer drags the name of Christ through the mud and slanders Christianity as such, God may take him out of the world as a form of judgement. We cannot say. It is God that says. We do not know the mind of God.

Are you God? Do you play the role of God? Who gets to determine what is a sin unto death and what is not. You?? I hope not!! Only God can do that! So why do you presume to put yourself in the place of God?
Every sin that you commit is a spiritual sin; for it is against God. The only person that was perfect was Christ. That was the reason that he could die for our sins--was that He was perfect. He was the just dying for the unjust.

He demonstrated his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
    Are you perfect?
You have added to the Word of God. "spiritually" Why did you put that in there?
    You misunderstansd the verse.
The phrase "does not commit sin" is in the present continuous tense, meaning "does not continue to commit sin," or coninue in a sinful lifestyle.

1 John 3:9 Whoever has been begotten of God does not practise sin, because his seed abides in him, and he cannot sin, because he has been begotten of God. (Darby)
WOW!! Haven't you read the context? Talking about taking Scripture out of context. The hope referred to here is the hope of the second coming of Christ. Every man that hath THIS HOPE--the hope of the second coming, keeps himself pure. Read the context. It says nothing about drunkenness.
No you did not. You gave me Scripture out of context. I can do the same thing.

The Bible says, "There is no God." It really does. You can find that statement in Psalms 14:1 "There is no God."
--This is the game/logic that you are using.
Again, more Scripture out of context.
All of the above Scripture was Paul's commission to Timothy as Paul was about to be martyred, and was giving Timothy his commission as he was going into the service of the Lord. These were his last instructions to him.

What has that got to do with what you are trying to prove? Nothing!
There is one kind of sin--a transgression of God's will.

There is one thing that will keep a person from heaven, and that will send a person to Hell, and that is the rejection of Jesus Christ as Saviour. If you disagree with that statement, then you believe that salvation is by works and not by grace through faith.

Ok then why is it say they can ask for forgiveness if he see his brother sin a sin not unto death. If there an't two deffifrent sins there then why can't he get forgiveness for the one unto death.

    Wow...

    It's called forgiveness.

    Hypothetical situation here...

Charles has a frustrating day at work. 5 minutes before quitting time, he cuts loose with a profanity.

On the way home, Charles is killed in a car wreck. He had not asked for forgiveness for the outburst earlier.

    Is Charles in heaven?

According to your previous answers, that is in doubt.

According to the Bible, God forgives sins.

    So, do you believe then...
    1. That if you die with a single unconfessed sin in your life, you're going to hell?
    2. That there is a list somewhere of sins that a Christian cannot possibly commit? If so, where is that list?
