the bible itself is said to be all sufficient for theology/doctrines/practices/maturing us, and we ALL have all spiritual blessings now in Christ, have the Holy Spirit, so again, what need of we have tongues and prophecy, as their need has now ceased?

And how do you know tht you have the Gifts as described in Acts?

Okay...

It is not about winning. It is about truth and you are spreading a false teaching in this area. Make a recoring of the sounds you make and post them and we will get people who claim to be translators to prove this true or false.

You are right....in your heart and mind, and the theological limitations of your beliefs, you are correct! Far be it from me to ruin your day or more importantly the destroy boundries you have placed upon God! If you see me as reading and interpreting Scripture wrongly and teaching a false doctrine, so be it! There, I said it! Now get a life and get back to enjoying the forum and it's many interesting issues, always open for debate!

I read through Larry Hart's "Truth Aflame" the other day. It's an ecumenical systematic theology that attempts to reconcile broad Evangelical theology with the Charismatic "renewal" - in other words, he attempts to provide an option for those in churches outside of organized Pentecostalism, who may otherwise be open to tongues 'n' whatnot, but not necessarily the dogmas that go along with being a member of, say, the AoG. Hart has a Ph.D from Southern Baptist Seminary, so much of his "Evangelical" perspective is from a Baptist point of view. I recommend it for any of you who may be interested in 'Spirit-filled' theology, but not necessarily in 'Spirit-filled' churches in the Wesleyan or Keswick traditions.

And how...

the bible itself is said to be all sufficient for theology/doctrines/practices/maturing us, and we ALL have all spiritual blessings now in Christ, have the Holy Spirit, so again, what need of we have tongues and prophecy, as their need has now ceased?

And how do you know tht you have the Gifts as described in Acts?

....do you know that I don't? This is a debate forum, brother, and apparently my views are debatable.

I happen to believe that there are issues that separate Baptists, and like my beliefs, those issues that everyone holds to are HIGHLY debatable too!

Look at the rage that surfaces when someone speaks about free will verse's choice! Armenian versus Calvin! How do those folks know they have it right? Isn't a lot of theology debatable and up to the individual?

The truth is, freewill or not, we will all be in heaven when it is ALL said and done!

The issue of what I believe, and you don't believe about the gifts is not going to change the fact that we are all saved by grace. And if I am teaching that we must be born again, and water baptized, isn't that the crux of the Gospel message? The other things are all debatable, such as what happens when we are filled with the Spirit; how does one know they've been filed with the Spirit Does the Spirit fill us at the time we are saved, or is it a separate event? Should we raise our hands when we sing? Is it okay to shout out an Amen! when we hear something that inspires us during a sermon! Does your church have an alter, or not? Do you have alter-calls or not! Do you call your pastoral board of elected leaders Deacons, or Board Members? Are we going to be raptured before the tribulation, during the tribulation or after it? Does your church require a person to rejoin a church when they reocate, or can they transfer membership? Does your church repeat the Lord's Prayer and, or recite some creeds in each service? Should a pastor be allowed to refer to themselves as Pastor or Reverend? Is it acceptable for a pastor to have been divorced, as well as deacons? Should a women be allowed to preach or head a church as a pastor?

The list can go on forever, and the truth is, there are a wide variety of answers and Scriptural interpretation and those who believe one way or the other will fight you to the end to prove their way is the ONLY way! So, how does one denominational group KNOW they are right, when they come up against another denominational group! Are they all wrong, or are they somewhat wrong? Does anyone really know?

I don't. But some on this board are die hard in their leanings and teaching, and the way they see the issue is debatable, and it is not any more or anyless similar to those who call themselves pentecostal or even charismatics! To each their own.

I honestly believe all that matters is that we believe that God sent His Son to die for us. That we have to repent and ask His Son to come and live in us (and by the way, how do we really know that He is living in us?). That we follow Him in baptism. And that we believe the Bible is his infallible book of instruction to us, and that it is 100% true, or as I say, I have a Biblical World View of the Word, and that means if God said it...it is fact and not arguable! Even though we all have our preferences s to how we see and believe certain issues. At least we all beieve we must be born again, and we believe in how we are born again! The rest of the walk is going to be based on faith, and faith in how we interpret that Word. That is where I come from. If what I believe ruffles the feathers of some, I am sorry, but, I have to be true unto what I believe He has given to me! And I think anyone on this board is believing the same, even though there are different groups, and tons of HEAYED debate going on all over this board, the only thing that really matters is that we have been born again and trusting in Him and His death and resurrection to bring us to Glory!

I'll be ther, right or wrong on some issues, and I beieve you, Judith, and a bunch of others who think I have gone astray, will be there in the end. And if that isn't true, than we all have a problem. :BangHead:
And when it comes down to it, the only thing God requires of us is that we have been born again. At least, that is what my Bible tells me! :applause:

As long as you insist on seeking conformation through tongues you will live in doubt because fo your false teachings about them. At least prove what you say by posting a short audio message in tongues and we all can get three people who claim to translate them to prove they are not of God when they all translate them differently.

I do understand where you are coming from in this, as I 'spoke intongues and prophesy more than many of you", but still comes down to is that in the bible for today, and how do we know if God gave it, satan etc?

the main problem with that approach is there is no way to reconcile modern charasmatic movement with biblical christianity, trust me, tried years before God showed me the truth!

Can I just say this...

and how do we know if God gave it, satan etc?

We don't! But just like the major differences that separate the majority of good Baptists around the world, how does one side over the other know that their way is of God and not the devil?

They don't....I don't...and you don't. We will not know until we get to our just reward, and then it will be too late. That is why I don't lose sleep over all these denominational differences of opinion.

To be honest with you, as much a FREAK as I appear to you Batpist, I am the same freakish person to the pentecostals and charismatics. These folks can't see me taking up with you Baptists.

As for me, I have seen fit to take the best of what God has shown me over the years or all denominations, and allowed God to remold me into something that is a little unique, and able to communicate with folks from all sides, except for die hard Catholics, and the cults like Mormons, JW's, Scientolotigists, etc.

I am quite comfrotable with the mixture of truths that I hold to. Like the star of the old Hunter television cop show used to say, "It works for me!"

God bless you
. I am rejoicing with you and for you that you found what is right for you when it comes to AoG and Baptists! At least, like me, you have a new found peace that allows you to love Him, fellowship with others, and walk the path as well as you can!

you don't seem a freak, butdo see parellels between you and me, and when you state that yopu cannot know whther tongues/prophesy/gifts are from God/satan/Ourselves, that is VERY dangerous, as satan has gotten his theology into much of modern charasma due to just that!

RD2, this is very near heresy, may in fact cross the line. "We don't know ... "?? Really?? How can you possibly say that?

James 1, NASB
17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

If, in fact, you "do not know" from where this "gift" comes, then I'd say its plain that it didn't come from God! God makes no bones about what gifts He gives. If you're confused, you need to stop.

if not sure where these gifts are coming from, how would he know if what is being done is thu the Holy Spirit or by?

This is why charasmatic chaos very danferous, as people aresincere, but misinterprete the bible, and end up taking heed to deluding spirits, and false doctrines! As there is NO objective standard, so heedfalse prophets/apostles etc!

Very good post. Far be it from me to try to limit God on how He can deal with or use other Christians. I believe God provides each Christian with what that Christian needs to serve Him. Too many Christians believe that they have everything God uses in dealing with Christians. No one does, including me.

But is not knowing the source of anything really be from God?

As long as humans are involved in the exercise of a gift, we cannot be certain if this is really from God, this uncertainty also includes preaching and other gifts. Too many Christians believe that if it does not occur to them or in their church, it cannot be of God.

This is the most bogus attitude I've ever heard of from a Christian, and you're the second one to post this tripe today. "We cannot be certain if this is really from God"?? Are you reading the same Bible the rest of us are?

The Christ-directed life means that Christ is in your life and “on the throne” of your life. We are yielded to Christ. True, in the beginning of our relationship with Him we may not know exactly what that means, but we definitely know when we are within or outside of His will? How? By either the peace of knowing we are, or the unease that we are not. If "we don't know," then we aren't.

Our interests in this life and the next, when we belong to God through His Son Jesus Christ, are directed by Christ, resulting in harmony with God’s plan for our lives. If there is no harmony or peace in an action that is supposed to be a worshipful act, then it most assuredly is not from God.
Too many Christians believe that if it does not occur to them or in their church, it cannot be of God.
RD2's comment came directly from him, that when asked how he knew if this was from God, he said, "We can't!" And he said it with pride! Your second comment here is irrelevant.
