We had a really bad ice and snowstorm here in West KY yesterday like we have not seen in decades. Just got word that Tom Butler, a fellow church member slipped on the ice in the parking lot of his workplace and landed on his head. He requires immediate surgery to prevent swelling and other injuries. He is being flown to Nashville Vanderbilt. I will keep you all updated, but in the meantime, please pray for him and his wife Janice. Could be serious stuff.

Just saw this TAD! Tom is one of the good guys on this BB. I pray for him and those who care for him. Vanderbilt should be a good hospital and I believe doctors are instruments in the hands of God!

Praying for Tom. Something similar happened to my granddaughters best friend, a 15 year old girl that goes to high school at Sparta TN. She was sledding down a hill and hit a mail box post head on. She has head injuries and is in a comma at Erlanger Hospital, Chattanooga TN. Please pray for her also.

Not anything really new, but here is a message from his son Tom Jr. of a summary from the start.

For those that don't know. Dad fell on the ice yesterday. He was almost in the building at work and fell on his back. The fall caused a narrowing in the spinal column and put pressure on the spinal chord causing paralysis on both sides of his body. A passerby (or an angel) saw him and called 911 and stayed with him until the ambulance got there. He was taken to Baptist and since Paducah only has two doctors qualified for this type of surgery and one was on vacation and the other was involved in a lengthy surgery already, and time was of the essence, Dad was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center. He has since regained partial movement on the left side and slight movement in his right leg and can move one finger on the right hand. The surgery will hopefully relieve the pressure and enable him to get movement back. We expect him to be in the hospital at least a week and then move to some sort of rehab facility. Hopefully he will regain full movement but his recovery could take as long as a year to 18 months. However, as a believer in miracles, I will be praying for a full and speedy recovery. I was a recipient of a miracle after my 2011 biking accident so I know that this is in God's hands and His will, whatever that is, will be done. Dad is a true believer in the power of prayer, so all prayers and concerns are deeply appreciated

I just saw this and I am deeply saddened to learn of Tom’s accident. Old Regular, you right that Tom is one of the good guys here. I never met him but truly regard him as an old friend. No one has ever attacked Tom because of his gentle nature. To his family and to The American Dream, he will definitely be in my prayers over these next several days. FWIW, I’ve had quite a bit of experience with Vanderbilt Medical Center and they are definitely the best in the Ky. –Tenn. area.

Update 12 Sunday

Tom is out of surgery. It went well. He will be in the hospital 3 days then up to a 18 month recovery in neuro rehab. Thank all of you for your prayers and God for miracles.

Dr. Bob, please put this back in the prayer section.

And again thanks to all of you for your prayers. A church member went to Nashville today to see Brother Tom and his morale is very high.

I just saw this. Praise the Lord that the surgery went well. Praying for his recovery.

As others have said, Tom is one of the best folk on the BB.

I have always thought highly of Tom, good insight and courteous poster. Its not surprising that it sounds like he will have a loving support group of family and friends around him during his recovery.
