Secret Document: U.S. Fears Terror 'Spectacular' Planned

A secret U.S. law enforcement report, prepared for the Department of Homeland Security, warns that al Qaeda is planning a terror "spectacular" this summer, according to a senior official with access to the document.

"This is reminiscent of the warnings and intelligence we were getting in the summer of 2001," the official told ABCNews.com.

U.S. officials have kept the information secret, and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said today on ABC News' "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" that the United States did not have "have any specific credible evidence that there's an attack focused on the United States at this point."

...

Spec*tac"u*lar (?), a.

1. Of or pertaining to a shows; of the nature of a show. Spectacular sports." G. Hickes.

2. Adapted to excite wonder and admiration by a display of pomp or of scenic effects; as, a spectacular celebration of some event; a spectacular play.

3. Pertaining to spectacles, or glasses for the eyes. <-- 4. Unusual and striking. --> (Source: Webster's 1828)

Wouldn't a terror 'spectacular' really be counter productive for the 'islamofascists' at this point? With the American popular opinion being overwhelmingly against the current foreign policy, what would 'Bin Laden' and his 'al qaida' friends really have to gain from a spectacular terror attack, unless they really do want us over there indefinitely...

I doubt Osama cares about American public opinion, nor does he care how long we are over there. His objective is to put this country in disarray. In addition to dead Americans, one of their main objectives is to destroy the economy.

If Osama doesn't care about American public opinion, then why is he in the terror game? Why not just be in the killing game?

You, sir, have hit the nail on the head and driven it through the board.

If our federal government had the good sense to stop interfering in the Middle East, then it would be rather hard for al Qaeda to recruit folks to join them.

Thus, the paradox: al Qaeda resents our federal government sticking its nose into the Middle East but it needs our federal government doing so in order to gain adherents.

If this means telling Israel that she's "on her own", with no protection from the US of A, then I might(?) agree; but not totally.

On the other hand, should we do this, then the wrath of God on us for dumping Israel will make Al Qaeda a pesky gnat by comparison.

Just more of the fearmongering that this administration has made a hallmark of its time in office. We have come a long way from "The only thing we have to fear...is fear itself" to "Buy duct tape and plastic film to seal up your house. The terrorists are gonna get you!" A fearful populus will go along with anything.

What are you afraid of?

Excellent post. The longer we are over there, the more lives and resources are drained from our country.

To respond to the other post, I really do not think Osama or any other terrorist waits for the latest NBC news poll to come out to strike at the right time. Its not a matter of public opinion, its a matter of chaos.

Our attention is turned to the UK. The media are focused on it. Terrorists know how much July 4 means to Americans. I hope Homeland Security, FBI, et al are not asleep at the wheel by their attention diverted to the UK. A terrorist bait and switch tactic may just be what is going on.

Who appointed the US as Israel's protector? Israeli interests are not always American interests.

The Israelis have demonstrated over the years that they are fully capable of protecting and defending themselves. The U.S. has only served to hold them back from taking care of their own problems. If we would leave them alone, they probably would have already worked them out in their own way.

Why would God care if we "dump" Israel? That's almost on par with saying that the wrath of God would have been on the Romans for "dumping" Israel. Hello? How about letting them run their own country and direct their own future for a change without U.S. interventionism? If modern day Israel really is God's nation, why doesn't the U.S. leave and God will lead them to victory? Do you really think God needs the U.S. there to protect Israel?

"Terrorism is the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives." - US Federal Bureau of Investigation

The objective is the coercion of public and/or governmental opinion. If all he wants is chaos he would not be a terrorist.

Wow, you hit that one on the head. I always depend on the federal government for my defintions.

Name one.

Agree with you JWP. You are right on. Don't let these replacement theology apologists discourage you. We know what nation is the Apple of God's eye, according to the Bible.

Oh, I've learned that many on here don't accept God at His word, & I used to let that bug me, but that's between them & Him. I have no intention of getting into an argument over their liberal ideas.

His methods may change, but His principles DO NOT!!
