The problem with your plan is that the illegals wouldn't be able to get in or out either.

Of course it could result in a twist to the status quo arrangement with goods being smuggled in with the shipments of illegals.

Getting back to Texas and secession, if they did secede, then a lot of the tax money that would have been going to D.C. could stay instate for things such as disaster relief.
The question of secession was settled by the Civil War. Texas was not allow to secede then, and had to rejoin the Union as a conquered state.

Those who talk about secession seem to forget The Recent Unpleasantness and the changes in its aftermath.

Let's not forget Texas v. White.

Except that Texas receives more in federal funds than it pays in taxes.

.

If you mean that by "settled" you mean states, which had voluntary entered the union and then seceded were forcibly brought back into the union against their will, then 'yes'.

You realize that money would be worthless as a blockade would immediately be set up. Nothing by air, sea or highway would get into or out of Texas. All Texas assets in banks outside of Texas would be frozen. It would be economic disaster for Texas and Texans.

You are assuming of course that other contiguous states wouldn't want to secede with them.

No. It doesn't. But it should.

A pretty good slice of the state budget is used to handle a problem created by the federal government. Illegal immigration.

Texas ranks #11 as a taker state depending on 40% of its budget coming from the Federal government.

Red states are the pick pockets of our country.

As it turns out, it is red states that are overwhelmingly the Welfare Queen States. Yes, that's right. Red States — the ones governed by folks who think government is too big and spending needs to be cut — are a net drain on the economy, taking in more federal spending than they pay out in federal taxes. They talk a good game, but stick Blue States with the bill.

Well, if this is the case, it seems like you and all Democrats/blue state folks should be strongly urging DC to let the Red-states go their own way. That way y'all can proceed in more rapidly transforming America into the left-wing, progressive paradise of your dreams, unencumbered by the Red-state "pick pockets".

Unlike the red states we care about people not just rich people and corporate profits.
