Joe you remind me of these guys ..taking pot
shots at howard dean ..but hey when it comes
time and their President ask them to join up
they are nowhere to be found...they like to take
potshots but ask them to join a real fight you
have the proverbial chicken hawks.

http://wtsp.com/weird/weird_article.aspx?storyid=15544 (why isn't this guy in uniform?)

insert whine here(I support the war but just
don't ask me to fight I would rather scream
and make fun of Howard Dean)

Lets send the Hillbillies in to Iraq and not worry about volunteers.

Thanks for the video story Aslanspal, I was concerned about one of the other stories from the web site that concerned the death of a cat from St. Petersburg---I suspect it was Howard Dean.

Your argument is stupid because it is not based in reality. If my country needs me, I will go. I have said this many times already. The generals thus far say they have enough troops to accomplish the mission. If something changes and they decide to institute a draft, I won't be fleeing to Canada like a coward as many anti-war nuts did back in Vietnam. I will do my duty. That does not mean I have to enlist in order to show my patriotism or to support the war. That is not my calling in life. All you have is empty rhetoric driven by bitter partisanship and hatred. What a disgrace.

Joseph and Ken H.

You're both probably in the upper 50% of American Families when it comes to Income.

And I know you're in the upper 5% of the World's Wealthiest People.

Alanspal,

You need to be in the Recruitment Line as well.

I'll even accept your willingness to serve in the Peace Corps since I know how much you object to the War.

Prove it.

I didn't realize the upper 50% of American Families lived in Mobile Homes.

Hardsheller, you are right and no one has to wait for an invitation to serve, your country needs you now! Enough with the excuses.

Yes, I know that I could probably improve my financial status considerably by enlisting. However, I am happy in my career and am not going to sign up just for the money. IMO, the military is a calling, and I don't have that calling. If the government needs me, they will call and I will go, which is more than can be said of any of the anti-war cowards here participating in this slur of a thread.

For the time being, I will live my life as an American, be thankful for the sacrifice of those who protect those freedoms, teach their kids while they are away. That is my calling.

Well Joseph, we disagree on this one.

IMO, Service to one's country is a Sacred Duty and an Honorable Responsibility.

I actually agree with you here. I also believe that military service is a calling and not everyone is called to it. But, I do respect and support those whom have chosen this service.

Further,

I think everyone who works in this country serves their country in different ways. You serve it as a pastor, I serve as a teacher. I am assuming you would like to have some teachers for the children of those who are at war currently, correct? Do you demand those who support you as a pastor to become a pastor themselves? That would be silly.

Bob Herbert (lead-in post):

"The problem now is that most Americans have had plenty of time to digest the images of people being blown up in Baghdad and mutilated in Fallujah, and they know that thousands of our troops are coming home in coffins, or without their arms, or without their legs, or paralyzed, or horribly burned."

Compare the number dead in Iraq since the beginning
in March 2003 to 14 HOURS of dead in American abortion
mills
. Sorry, i'm going to be anti-abortion NOT
anti-Bush.

Joseph,

No one is even remotely suggesting that people give up their life calling for Military Service.

Military Service is an Interruption in your career for a time. Does the term "Citizen Soldier" come to mind?

Remember it was the Citizen Soldiers of WWII that destroyed Hitler's Facism.

Yes, some do choose the Military as their Life's Calling but historically the U.S. Military has always been about "Citizen Soldiers", just ordinary people like you and me shouldering the load and getting the job done and then coming home to our families.

No I do not demand that those who support me as a pastor to become a pastor themselves but I do demand that they all become Ministers of the Lord.

That alone doesn't make one wealthy. And I am certainly not among the privileged class. I know people in that group and I'm not one of them.
