The Penal is trying to take away from Christ who is risen.
Romans 5
9Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. 10For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
If it worked the way you think it does he would not have said we shall be saved from the wrath of God, but that we HAD been saved.
1 Corinthians 15
13But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 14and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. 15Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 17and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.
Jesus could have died on the cross for you full stop, your faith would be worthless, you are still in your sins.
We are saved BY HIS LIFE. You can't just toss the Resurrection aside as having no part in salvation.
There is a difference between Jesus dying FOR US and Jesus dying INSTEAD OF US.
We are united with Jesus. Jesus came inclusively as one of us.
Colossians 2
9For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, 10and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority; 11and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ; 12having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
Without the Resurrection you have nothing.
17and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.
