The Disciples of Christ and cremation, what does the Lord say about it?

This is an open conversation about believer's in Christ....should they or should they not be cremated?

I personally believe Disciples of Christ are never to be cremated, since it was a pagan way of burial because it was a "symbol" of being "purified" for eternal rest......

What are your thoughts?

The Lord bless you.....
In His Love....

What is cremated is just the shell of the body, the spirit has already gone to be with Christ Jesus. Note, it was a pagan rite because they did not know God.
From a Christian perspective how is burial different from cremation?

My wife and I prepaid our burrial expenses - coffin, vault, mortuary services, and cemetery plots. We paid steadily for about ten years until it was all done.
About two weeks after the last payment was made, I had a heart attack, and while I was driving myself to the hospital, my thoughts were "Man! What timing!"
Anyway, my point is that in the old days, you could build a pine box, put the departed one in it, nail a lid down, dig a deep hole, say a prayer, sing some hymns, plant the box in the hole, cover it with dirt, and be done. Today, the costs of burrial are staggering. I can't wag my head at a fellow believer who choses cremation.
It would seem diabolical if we stood around the body while it was being burned, holding hands and singing kumbaya.

I believe the Biblical perspective is burial.
As for cremation the word of God is silent.
Burial speaks of the resurrection.
Being cremated has no bearing on a Christians eternal life or resurrection.

I do not think Christ provided a required or authorized burial method of our physical bodies. But we are to be good stewards of what God has provided, and since a "celebration of life" service provides an opportunity to present the gospel to the lost, I see taking the least expensive way to handle the remains as biblical.

One other point, our glorified body, redeemed when we meet Christ in the air, is not made of the earthly material that comprised our physical body during our life on earth. 1 Corinthians 15:48 suggests our glorified bodies will not be comprised of earthly "dust."

Greetings,

There is not one place in the Old or the New Testament where God's children were cremated. All were buried.
Your stance is not supported by the Lord's Word:
Here is a verse:
Mat 8:21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
Mat 8:22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

The Lord has the last word.

The Lord bless you....
In His Love.....

Out of context but does not matter, it is just the shell that is buried or burned.

Greetings,

Actually all God's Children were "buried" in the Old and New Testament's, nothing in the Lord's Word promotes Cremation.

Mat 8:21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
Mat 8:22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

Your reasoning is all flesh.......which is enmity against the will of the Lord. Cremation is pagan, for ceremonial "cleansing" to prepare for the "after life".

The Lord shall provide for us to afford for our death's burial, "taking the least expensive way" is all about money. Trust in the Lord and He shall provide for ALL our needs, especially in keeping with His Will and His Glory.

The Lord bless you....

Greetings,

That is your opinion, BURY, means BURY as in Death.....not out of context........otherwise he would have said cremation.

There is not one place in the Bible - where we are required to be buried.
Evidently, the Lord is silent.
How about the thousands who were burned at the stake
How about thousands who drowned in the seas

But as 378 Said: "Being cremated has no bearing on a Christians eternal life or resurrection".

Nothing in Christ's or His Apostles inspired Testament promotes burial in the ground over other methods of handling remains. Burial at sea ring a bell.

My reasoning was presented and was based on scripture. Your insult is all flesh.

Being good stewards of God's provision is clearly taught in scripture, your denial is fleshly.

Greetings,

So you ignore everything how God's children are buried in the Old & New testament. Where is burial at sea mentioned in God's Word?

Now if a person dies at sea, it is understandable they must be "buried at sea" for the good of the people on the ship. However dying in that situation is beyond the person's choice is it now?

Nothing you have stated is based upon scripture....NOTHING.....

Hmmm - was Lots wife buried?
how about all those outside the Ark - they were not buried

Greetings,

Lot's wife suffered Judgement for her disobedience. Not the same.
All those in Noah's time suffered Judgement for their Ungodliness.
There is a difference between judgement against sinner's and those who are Godly and follower's of the Lord.
So your example's do not hold water.....

Thank you.

The Lord bless you.

Yet another denial but no evidence. Personal incredulity is fallacious argumentation.

Consider for a moment the second death, where the body is destroyed. Sounds like the promotion of cremation as God's method of handling remains. Look up Gehenna and the number of times Christ referred to destroying bodies in fire. Do a little study before you exhibit ignorance.

Greetings,

How is the Lord silent on this subject? The Old and New Testament is filled with example's of believer's being buried!
Now being "burned at the stake" is beyond a person's choice, and the Lord knows that. The same goes for those who drowned at sea, beyond their choice.
This is about how God, through the example's given in the Old & New testament, desires believer's to be buried.
I am not saying person's loose their salvation if they are cremated of their choosing. I am just asking what does the Lord desire of His follower's. And I believe cremation is not the desire of the Lord, for it was always pagan's which carried out such tradition.

Matter of fact in Amos 2:1 describes the Lord's anger towards those who burned the King of Edom's bones.

Amo 2:1 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime:

Just something to think about....
The Lord bless you.

You're simply not being reasonable. Scriptures proves cremation is against God's will: or have you forgotten about the fiery furnace?

;)

God bless.

Many indigenous believers will follow their cultural traditions. For some this will mean placing the body in the top of the tree to be consumed by animals, leaving only the bones to be removed and kept elsewhere. In this issue I go toward Romans 14 and state that each person must follow their conscience. Peter's vision of the blanket with all the animals where God declares them all to be clean may also be considered here.
God has not declared a specific regulation for his children regarding how they treat the carcass which once contained their spirit. Therefore, follow your conscience and do what you do to the glory of God. This is the grace of Christ in action.
