The Eve of War

That doesn't answer the question.
To me the question is why would Assad use a crummy low impact weapon like Chlorine etc when he can get Russia to level city blocks at his request? I don't like Assad, but I like him better than the terrorists he is killing. In the long run the more of each other they kill off, the better off the West is.

We cannot allow the use of chemical WMD, to neglect strict enforcement is a much greater danger than this upcoming strike. To make excuses not to deal with this situation is akin to sticking one’s head in the sand.

This strike is not a strategy to nation build and shouldn’t be the start of one. It should be a serious message that these weapons will not be tolerated, done, let someone else take care of the mess over there..

I think we should "level the playing field" to quote a popular cliché.

We are shown little ones in poison gas death throes in Syria and yes we are deeply moved - who wouldn't be?

However, long standing war gets very very ugly and non-discriminatory.

This "gas" incident may very well be a media tool used by the powers that be (whoever) to make a new direction of thinking for we the masses.

Ya, I know I am a conspiratorialistphobic.

Assad seems to use chemical weapons as a shock weapon on rebels who are down but not out. That is the one commonality it seems is happening from my own patchwork following of the news on his chemical weapons strikes. Its the stuff of evil empires in movies, but of course a man like Assad would do that. He can't but kick people hard as soon as they go down but not out. He seems like a classic thug. The terrible news is he rules a major nation state in the Middle East.

There is no eve of war.

I know, I picked it because it sounded poetic. I could call it the "eve of intervention" and it would be more correct.

-EDIT-

Also to the enemy on the ground, some of them Syrian Christians, war is more likely the term they would use.

In the interest of historical accuracy I think you'll find that a chap called Napoleon won rather a large number of battles after that time.
And there was that whole thing called WWI in which the French partook from the start with you guys being rather late to the party
