ya know, again, Im not defending the particular sermon, but it is ok to hate the TV in today's world. It is alright to just not have one. Your children will not be "harmed" by being oversheltered in this manner, which is sort of a silly thing to say anyway, since TV has only been around a relatively short period of time, and we didn't claim the kids were too sheltered BEFORE TV was invented. [IMG] Right?

So for those within us who have opted to just "do without" TV, let them....they aren't harming anyone and they are doing what they believe is best for their family. Let's not claim its more than it is.

Yeah, I agree, I grew up without a TV (although as I said before not because my parents thought they were wrong, just because they thought they were a waste of time). My friends always asked me how I lived without one, but we just played outside and read a lot. I'll probably have a TV all my life, but I don't plan on letting my kids watch very much at all, and it will be pre-approved.

the probelm bapmom is if you would listen to this guys "sermon", you would see it is HE that makes things out to be MORE than they really are.

but you would know that if you heard the "sermon"

Bapmom, I affirm your right as a parent, and liberty as a Christian, to forego the TV as a family. If God has put that conviction in your heart, go for it. I'm sure we are in agreement on that point.

I would hesitate to go to either extreme:
"It is wrong for Christians to have TV's."
"It is wrong for Christians to not have TV's."

    Agreed there as well, right?

Great post bapmom, that about sums it up. TV in and of itself is pretty much neutral, what we do with it makes the difference.

I've done both with and without. Every family must decide for themselves.
The problem arising in this thread, with the beginning poster, was taking one view on something neutral, and giving it the prescription of wrong for all. That's a good idea and needed concept for false doctrine, things we know are wrong, but not for preferences such as television, movies, pants and skirts, music styles.

I just spoke to Mister Sanderson. He plans on stopping by about page 15, and destroying this thread with a Louisville Slugger.

We could get it back, no fear.

Let's just throw a wrench in it.

Is it ok to watch a program on the computer that is also shown on television?

    HMMMM?

Quoting Larry Brown leaves no surprise as to your favor for this Anderson fella.

(Larry Brown is a preacher of the same stripe as Anderson. I witnessed his style of "preaching" first hand where he spoke directly to a woman in the congregation, calling her a "huzzy")

If enough people hit the 'report post' button, it can be closed ahead of time. [IMG]

We have beaten this horse to death so many times over the years...

Have a TV or don't have a TV, but please don't tell me I'm sinning by doing either one. [IMG]

    A woman of uncertain virtue.

I bet that was really edifying to the congregation.

Hussy. Larry Brown called this woman a hussy. Made himself feel real good. So much so, that he still up ON the pulpit and kept on demeaning her with pointing and such.
