ya know, again, Im not defending the particular sermon, but it is ok to hate the TV in today's world. It is alright to just not have one. Your children will not be "harmed" by being oversheltered in this manner, which is sort of a silly thing to say anyway, since TV has only been around a relatively short period of time, and we didn't claim the kids were too sheltered BEFORE TV was invented.
Right?

So for those within us who have opted to just "do without" TV, let them....they aren't harming anyone and they are doing what they believe is best for their family. Let's not claim its more than it is.

Yeah, I agree, I grew up without a TV (although as I said before not because my parents thought they were wrong, just because they thought they were a waste of time). My friends always asked me how I lived without one, but we just played outside and read a lot. I'll probably have a TV all my life, but I don't plan on letting my kids watch very much at all, and it will be pre-approved.

the probelm bapmom is if you would listen to this guys "sermon", you would see it is HE that makes things out to be MORE than they really are.

but you would know that if you heard the "sermon"

Bapmom, I affirm your right as a parent, and liberty as a Christian, to forego the TV as a family. If God has put that conviction in your heart, go for it. I'm sure we are in agreement on that point.

I would hesitate to go to either extreme:
"It is wrong for Christians to have TV's."
"It is wrong for Christians to not have TV's."

Agreed there as well, right?

Great post bapmom, that about sums it up. TV in and of itself is pretty much neutral, what we do with it makes the difference.

I've done both with and without. Every family must decide for themselves.
The problem arising in this thread, with the beginning poster, was taking one view on something neutral, and giving it the prescription of wrong for all. That's a good idea and needed concept for false doctrine, things we know are wrong, but not for preferences such as television, movies, pants and skirts, music styles.

I just spoke to Mister Sanderson. He plans on stopping by about page 15, and destroying this thread with a Louisville Slugger.

We could get it back, no fear.

Let's just throw a wrench in it.

Is it ok to watch a program on the computer that is also shown on television?

HMMMM?

I grew up in an atmosphere in church that preached and taught along the same lines. I have struggled to break free of that mentality ever since. The idea is that the man does not lead the household rather he controls it with an iron fist. It is not about the husband and wife working together to run and raise the family but about the man browbeating the wife into doing what he wants without question. This mentality has lead to issues that my wife and I deal with on a regular basis. One of those issues is one of rage and anger at the family when my perception of what they should be and do is not fulfilled.

This dude is dangerous to his family and church. It is so sad that insted of growing his people in grace and truth through discipleship and teaching, he is brow beating his people into legalism. This is not a way of living that says what does God want me to do, but rather one that says what does my pastor think I should do. Only the very immature promote this style of living and only the very insecure leader uses it to lead his people. The people are usually very loyal to a fault which keeps them intrapped or they are so immature in Christ that they accept this teaching without any thought or prayer.

Does this guy ever respond to posts or does he just post?
Good post.

How many of you are telling folks about what the Bible says? We need more guys like him who will get behind the pulpit and PREACH!!! without being freaked out about what the "soft-skinned, thenthitive" church members will say after the service. As Larry Brown would say, most nowaday preachers "don't have enough spirituality to blow the fuzz off a gander's snout". The Bible says, "I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes." You're not really mad at the preacher--you're mad at what God says...and most of you should know by now that people don't get very far in life when they're mad at God.

Quoting Larry Brown leaves no surprise as to your favor for this Anderson fella.

(Larry Brown is a preacher of the same stripe as Anderson. I witnessed his style of "preaching" first hand where he spoke directly to a woman in the congregation, calling her a "huzzy")

If enough people hit the 'report post' button, it can be closed ahead of time.

We have beaten this horse to death so many times over the years...

Have a TV or don't have a TV, but please don't tell me I'm sinning by doing either one.

Hussy. Larry Brown called this woman a hussy. Made himself feel real good. So much so, that he still up ON the pulpit and kept on demeaning her with pointing and such.
