All translations are approximations of the originals. So, strictly speaking they are all paraphrases. But actually paraphrases are reworded texts of another text in the same language. So, most translations don't qualify as paraphrases, with an exception every now and then like the original Living Bible. And that is not to be confused with the current NLT, which is indeed a true translation.
The NIV, in its various incarnations (not counting the NIrV) has consistently been the best selling Bible in the world for decades. It's an all-round version; covering all bases. It's known as a mediating translation along with the CSB (the older HCSB), NAB, NET and the CEB.
It's my 2nd favorite translation (NKJV is 1st) and my go-to translation for understanding difficult passages. It is the most easily understood translation without dumbing down the english.
Not bad when 1984 edition, but became worse when 2011edition came out!
Not quite as good as the CSB as a mediating version, and not nearly as good as either Nas or Nkjv!
Do you own a physical copy of the CSB?
Are you putting the NASBU and NKJV in the category of mediating translations?
Remember to answer these two easy questions; not just one.

I agree with you, although ESV is my first.
Once had a Csb gave it away to a friend needing a bible, and I see those 2 translations as being formal camp!

Same here. I had several physical copies of the CSB, but gave them away. After reading the CSB extensively, I decided it simply wasn't a translation I particularly cared for.
On the other hand, I still believe it's a good translation, just "not my cup of tea," so to speak.
Big problem is that new Niv not literal enough, or too dynamic, and their Inclusive language decisions not for the better either!
It's not too literal, and not too dynamic. That's right. That's why it's considered balanced.
Balanced is just another term for "not good"
Do you have a physical copy of it? If not, you, like Y-1, haven't much ground to stand on.
So I suppose you prefer to continue having unbalanced wheels on your car because to have them balanced would be bad. You make up words, misspell words, and here offer the opposite of what any standard dictionary defines as balanced.

You need to clarify. "An old one" is rather vague. The current NIV is almost a decade old. Then there's the 1984 edition. If you don't have a physical copy of the current edition that you have actually read, you have based your opinion on faulty grounds.
even though many feel that the 1984 is superior translation to the 2011 Niv?
No, I would rather have a translation that gives to me actually what was meant and intended!
