I normally call WalMart, "The Great Wall of China", haha. I've read the book, "How WalMart is Destroying America & the World & what you can do about it"...but there's not a whole lot I can do-other than put a few copies of it in their breakroom, leave a few tracts, etc. ~smile~ (But I DON"T use the 'self-serve' lane). And I pay cash.

Our nearest city is about 45minutes from here & this is all we have. I used to get stuff from the Schwan's truck & Charles's Chips...simply because with all the young'uns at home & me not driving, I didn't get out much. We had a garden.

We will be making lots of pretty dresses for folks with all that fabric. One family we know has 7 girls in it.

The following was sent to me by my Son-in-law and daughter - who live in upper Vermont (why I'll never know) - and I thought the my friend Jim who lives in cold-cold Canada might appreciate it:

Tomorrow is Ground Hog Day. I have heard that it is so cold he will be wearing a fur coat for the day. Our ground hog is called Wiarton Willie. What is your ground hog called on February 2nd?

Most of the
evening i was at church. There
were the most i ever remember seeing
at my church on Sunday Night.
The Preacher started a series,
a 52 week set of lessons called:
Journey of a Lifetime. Some 110 had
signed up, but only about 90 were there.
Afterward, at the invitation, three
people joined from other churches
and one young lady perhaps 16
surrendered for special ministry, perchance
a missionary.

Then for added sport there was
a deacon's meeting. Even so, i got to
see the last 2½-clock-minutes of the
game. Yea Patriots -- my kinda team

We don't have groundhogs, but the prairie dogs make pretty good surrogates. Elmer Thomas Elmo will appear and, on very good authority, I have it, will announce he is running for president.

Jim, I worked pretty hard to not shop at Wal-Mart, but they ran all the mom-and-pop stores out of town. It's the only one left, unless I want to drive a good half hour out of town.
In the past five years we've had a book factory close, another factory bought out, K-Mart closed, JC-Penny went out, a chain grocery store out of business, an ice cream shop, a small restaurant, a Po' Folks restaurant, Long John Silver's, my bank was bought out, and on and on. It's not like it's a huge city and this would be normal. We have about 25,000 people, and that's only because the college is here.
However, if you want coffee and a donut there's a zillion convenience stores and gas stations!

Gina,
That's the goal of Walmart. Put the other shops out of business, buy out the competition and then control the marketplace.

As long as they have cheap stuff, people will continue to patronize them and advertise for them.

We have two complete malls closed in Kingston and the immediate plans are to tear them down. Kingston is about 80,000.

Good day everyone:

I have good news and bad news. Wiarton Willy saw his shadow, as did Puxtawany Phil, and that means 6 more weeks of winter. The ground hog in Nova Scotia, however, did not see his shadow and that means only 42 days of winter remaining.

The good news; despite them wearing natural fur coats, no protesters threw paint on them.

Well, if the prairie dog got up early, he didn't see his shadow, but if he slept late...Too bad.

The sun is shining melting our ice before another storm.

My grocery list is getting longer and longer. I probably should go to the grocery store today and I will go to the one that carries out my groceries for me....but when I get home, I have to get them out of the car...Maybe I will leave them in the car until Ed gets home.

I remember a time when I "left" groceries out for quite awhile & "forgot" I had a package of meat in one bag! >yucky!

Money was scarce & I really felt bad for being so careless...but the dogs ate well & didn't "get sick". I told them that's their once-in-a-lifetime treat!

I have been afraid that I will overlook something in the trunk of my car. EEK, spoiled meat would be bad. As cold as it is now, I will not have to worry for a few days about that.

I don't buy much beef or pork anymore. Husband likes fish and turkey. It would be bad to leave either one of those in the car.

Bro.Dan, I know what'cha mean! Young'uns today don't seem to understand that marriage is "for keeps"...the good, the bad, the ugly.

The key here is "make sure" he/she's "the one" & to always put the Lord *first*! And it takes much prayer, patience & perseverance.

We only knew each other 3 weeks before we got hitched! YIKES! It's been an interesting & exciting trip, but not without it's hardships.

We've often discussed "what if" one of us goes Home first, "what will" the other do...for me, he is The Best & I could never settle for less than that, so I'd stay single. (Methinks I'm too ornery & independent anyhow)! ~smile~

Well, I was single and independent for more than 30 years before I was married, so guess I could go another 30 years single if I had too, but would have to have my wife's permission to do that.

Does that tell you anything?

My younger daughter, when she was married, turned to her husband and said, "This is it bub, cos my father doesn't believe in divorce." The poor lad was abandoned at birth, had his adoptive parents divorce and his birth-mother, when he found her, refuse to see him. He has no plans other than to remain married after what he has been through.

Dan, good idea to have Ed go with me. He would, too, without complaining, but I hate for him to work all day and then have to go grocery shopping.

Granny, I have a "keeper" too. He will wait patiently for me to make up my mind about what to buy, etc.

By the way, I only spent $225.00 today. I had not been to the grocery store in about three weeks. I also bought an iron and a basket besides all the things we were out of.

Thankful, it is great to be able to shop for a few weeks if you have the storage space. I love my walk - in larder. Think more houses should have them.

I have nearly lost Rob twice through his illnesses. I can't imagine life without him. He reckons that because of the age difference he will be called home first.

As the Lord wills it.
