Travel Ban: Why Obama/CDC Refuse to Impose One!

I believe that the hesitation-of the powers that be-regarding imposing a travel ban to stop the Ebola virus from entering the states by West Africa travelers is based MORE upon economics and big business, and has very little to do with anything else.

If these were to be true, would that make Obama and or, the CDC guilty of not protecting this country? Would it be a major violation of the Presidential Oath of Office? And is it enough to impeach Obama for?

You views and feedback is sought, and appreciated! Please, no snarky remarks or comments.

This reply is not an argument for or against a travel ban. But is it possible a travel ban might make things worse?

With a travel ban how would you:

1. Get aid workers into West Africa.
2. Get them out of West Africa to bring them home.
3. Get aid to West Africa.

Ronald Reagan put a travel ban on anyone with AIDS entering the country. Didn't work.

There was no travel ban put in place for Swine flu, etc. Swine flu killed over 12,000 Americans.

There was no travel ban put in place prohibiting people from traveling to or from China during the SARS epidemic/pandemic where there were over 8000 cases in a 7 month period.

A travel ban would only encourage people to lie about whether they had been in West Africa.

There are no direct flights from Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guinea to the United States, so how would such a ban work? A person flies from one of these countries to Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam where they transfer to other flights (and there are a lot of flights from those cities to the US) ... how would we know, unless they told the truth, that their travel started in one of these countries?

These ebola conversations are getting hard to follow in here because instead of contributing to another thread, I guess everyone feels that whenever they need to say something, a whole new thread is required.

Unfortunately, Obama cannot be impeached because of his race so it is not worthwhile to speculate on that.

You would think that the airliners going in and out of West Africa would stop their flights so that they would not have to spend so much money on cleaning the planes if they do clean them.

What does CDC stand for? Center for Democrat Corruption?

Many surrounding countries in West Africa have sealed or tightened their borders against the plagued nations.

So grave is the situation just to walk around doing daily life things in the heavily affected countries puts one at risk.

The handling of money, purchasing food from the market places, riding a bus, tainted water, poor hygienic practices, use of public facilities, etc.

This includes probably everybody stepping off a plane (or connections thereof) from West Africa.

Prove your theory, picture yourself greeting a plane full of citizens from west Africa with a hearty bare-skinned handshake.

Be honest within yourself.

Instead of making an asinine comment, how about making a real one like "Obama cannot be impeached because there is no grounds to do so."

Unfortunately, there are many grounds but any attack on Obama, even a mild criticism, is construed as racism. The Democrats have a trump card there. Obama should impose a travel ban on people from West African countries with infections and even the Democrats are saying that he will do that this coming week.

This is number is way too inflated. Total deaths were, at most, 3500.

Precisely, and there is no way to entirely enforce it. Outside of putting up giant fences, armed guards, and land mines around affected regions, there is no reasonable way to keep travel limited.

This is why European authorities need to do much, much more. This isn't getting better, going away, or finding easy cures. The specter of worldwide contagion should necessitate immediate international collaboration.

There can be a modified travel ban, but no complete ban. Medical personnel should be able to travel in and out of the region.

That is right. He could never be impeached because of his skin color. Far too many would cry racism regardless the evidence against him.

This is wrong of course. You see, first, somebody would actually have to try to impeach him. Not happening. Then there is the small issue of finding something to impeach him for, of which there is nothing.

Not having done much travel that requires a passport, I have always been under the impression that passports were stamped by every country one visited.

Am I wrong?

Well said my crab towne friend and brother! However, I'd like to ask you this, and I pray you answer. If travel bans would not work, why has Ebola been contained to the three countries of origin and not spread any further in Africa?

Give you a hunt. The neighboring countries have tightened the borders and imposed travel bans!

PLUS: We'd not have two nurses sick right now if a trave ban had been in place!

Yeah got that, and out in Southern California, NBC the television network stands for the National Black Channel! ABC stands for, Another Black Channel; and CBS stands for Caucus for a Black Society. CNN stands for Community Network for Nincompoops!

The only good, fair and balanced network on TV today is FOX.

I disagree UoT. He swore the following oath of office: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

No one can argue that Obama has done everything within his ability to preserve, protect and defend the CoUS. By allowing our borders to be over run by those living south of the border is not doing his best to preserve, protect or defend the Constitution, which has laws that require enforcement when it comes to immigration to this country!

Now some may say he is doing his able best, but if that is his able best, then we can impeach him for being incompetent in a time that requires a leader who can lead and ensure that America is safe from being overran by illegals that are surely hurting the ability of citizens to be gainfully employed; illegals that break whatever laws needed to remain in this country; commit crimes against citizens, sometimes crimes that end in murdering an American citizen [including DUIs, hit-and-runs, and driving without a license or insurance]; committing fraud to obtain services, especially medical services; bringing illness to the country [because they are not meeting the mandate to undergo a physical and be healthy]; failing to learn to speak English and assimilate; bringing weapons into the country with them and not registering said weapons; forging documents so they can assume the role of being a contributing citizen; having their children attend schools that require proof of citizenship!

I could continue, but you get the idea. In order to accommodate these folks, this POTUS and the last few, have gone out of their way to ignore immigration laws. Find ways to accommodate illegals, so they can remain here illegally [I believe this is aiding and abetting a crime in progress]. And failure to provide the ways and means to stop said illegal crossing of our borders, especially in time of war [granted not a war we proclaimed, but rather one that was proclaimed against us and demonsttrated by kiling Americans around the world], when enemies of this nation could easily cross over the border and pose a military like threat and danger to American citizens.

Then how come nobody is trying?

That is the million dollar question. But if you ask me no one in DC seems to really care. So very sad, indeed!

It's because they got nothing RD2. His decision making is up for debate about whether or not he is always correct but to say he's criminal is simply untrue and the real reason of why no one is trying.

Here is what will evoke a travel ban:

An Ebola outbreak in Washington DC.
