Trump Foundation ordered to stop fundraising by N.Y. attorney general’s office

More legal troubles for Trump.

The New York attorney general has notified Donald Trump that his charitable foundation is violating state law — by soliciting donations without proper certification — and ordered Trump’s charity to stop its fundraising immediately, the attorney general’s office said Monday.

James Sheehan, head of the attorney general’s charities bureau, sent the “notice of violation” to the Donald J. Trump Foundation on Friday, according to a copy of the notice provided by the press office of state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman (D).

The night before that, The Washington Post reported that Trump’s charity had been soliciting donations from other people without being properly registered in New York state.

According to tax records, Trump’s foundation has subsisted entirely on donations from others since 2008, when Trump gave his last personal donation. This year, the Trump Foundation made its most wide-ranging request for donations yet: It set up a public website, donaldtrumpforvets.com, to gather donations that Trump said would be passed on to veterans’ groups.

But the Trump Foundation never registered under article 7A of New York’s Executive Law, as is required for any charity soliciting more than $25,000 a year from the public. One important consequence: Trump’s foundation avoided rigorous outside audits, which New York law requires of larger charities that ask the public for money.

Trump is not following the law. The action is justified. Should he get an exemption because the NY attorney general is from a different political party than he is?

And I thought you were a law and order man. Trump broke the law. Should he not have to pay the price for doing so?

You have assumed facts not in evidence. Because a Democrat says Trump broke the law does not mean Trump broke the law. It only means the Democrat SAID Trump broke the law.

We still have something in the country called "due process." Google it. :)

Seems pretty obvious he broke the law. Did he register the foundation? No, he did not.
Does the law require that such a foundation be registered? Yes, it does.

So, Trump broke the law. I will take with a grain of salt any responses you post in the future about law and order.

How do you know that?

Do you know that he didn't? How?

Because you don't understand due process or the legal concept that is the foundation of our legal system "Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law?"

You haven't given me anything yet. Just a bunch of accusations against a man running against the AG's candidate.

If I accuse you of being a thief, does that make you a thief? Of course not. An accusation is not proof of anything.

And if you would bother to read the actual text of the law, so graciously provided by 777, you would see the law probably doesn't apply to the Trump Foundation.

I think his "charitable foundation" needs to be shut down. There's entirely too much mischief taking place with that "foundation" in the name of charity.

Well, here's the official statement:

http://www.ag.ny.gov/press-release/...s-notice-violation-directing-trump-foundation

I still think this is just throwing more mud at a wall - question, here's the statue this guy cites:

https://www.charitiesnys.com/pdfs/statute_booklet.pdf

the Trump foundation is a private organization, so I doubt they even have to register. The AG would know this.
According to section 172-a of that statute, guys "charitable foundation" does not meet the exemption qualifications.

No, it's a lot more involved than that. The Trump Foundation may have been a charitable organization in operation but not officially. This NY AG is on a witch hunt and he's using his position to pull out all the stops:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...58-11e6-ac72-a29979381495_story.html#comments

biased link above but it does fill some of the details. So this hack could "decide" that the Trump Foundation is a charitable organization after all and (gasp) DIDN'T REGISTER!!!

His aides have been falling off like flies, it's said that this AG is too dirty even for NY state politics. At least he's not wasting his time worrying about the Clinton Foundation that took bribes from the same country that gave us 9/11!

You mean the Clinton Foundation, right?

Nope. I meant the one I said. Nobody has found any illegalities in the Clinton Foundation to my knowledge. Just a bunch of GOP trumped up hyperbole to keep folks from looking at the real crooked candidate in our story.

Like I said, a bunch of GOP trumped up hyperbole. Wonder why the GOP sponsored Citizens United of the the country are still "looking" for stuff on the Clinton Foundation while ignoring the already found again and again illegalities of the Trump Foundation?[emoji57]

Does leave me to wonder about what these"conservative" organizations are REALLY trying to do?[emoji10]

http://dailycaller.com/2016/10/02/exposed-the-corrupt-clinton-foundation-youve-never-heard-of/

"Three months after leaving the White House in 2001, former President Bill Clinton arrived in India to cheering throngs to help those who had just lost a million homes in the aftermath of a massive earthquake that killed 20,000 and injured 166,000.

In classic Clinton style, he solemnly promised that his new nonprofit — called the American India Foundation (AIF) — would rebuild 100 villages. Rajat Gupta, his millionaire co-chairman, pledged $1 billion for the victims.

It never happened. Years later, AIF’s annual reports were reviewed by the Daily Caller News Foundation and show only seven villages were partially rebuilt by Clinton’s group, and a mere $2.7 million of $53 million raised over a decade went to the earthquake victims."
...
"Paltry aid for the victims notwithstanding, Clinton handsomely profited from the charity as AIF’s top officers poured more than $13 million into the Clinton Foundation and others generously gave to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s political campaigns."

The Department of Justice has refused, and will continue to refuse, any authorization for the FBI to investigate the clintons' *$&^ foundation, entirely for political reasons. Obama says "It would be a personal insult to me to note for hillary clinton." Has there ever been a DOJ more partisan-based?

Y'all get more and more silly every day. What is there for the DOJ to investigate? Is there something illegal about a foundation falling short of it's fundraising and not being able to do as much as they planned?

Unlike the "Trump Foundation", they weren't getting contributions and using them as personal monies to pay off personal debt.

There's nothing illegal about making contributions.

No Gupta has and had his own issues. But that's him, not their foundation.

Tell me. Is the required form on file with the state government?
