TRUMP: I'm a 'smart person,' don't need intelligence briefings every single day

President-elect Donald Trump brushed off concerns that he's not participating in the traditional daily intelligence and national security briefings that presidents hold every day.

For the Nation's sake, I hope that his attitude about this is temporary.

I also hope, but I see no reason to be optimistic on this one. He is on the far fringe of don't confuse me with facts, my mind is made up.

It is a continuation of his campaign attitude. I expect this has been his attitude for a long time. It borders on psychotic, may even cross the line. He lives in a world where unwelcome facts are not to be entertained. That, plus being partisan with Putin makes him a thread to our sovereignty.

May God help us.

I truly fear for this nation, not from anything from Trump, but from rabid liberals who created the "false news" narrative years ago and are now condemning same since so many have caught on to the shyster tactics.
If I could listen to ANY 5 minute spiel of anyone, there's a great chance I could pull a selected comment out of context and crucify that person.
As a nation we are doomed if the majority of citizens do not get over their socialist mentality and start demanding "truth in reporting" rather than snippets that are designed to outright lie, or at best to mis-lead!!!!
I believe there will be a special place in Hell for those that PURPOSELY deceive others for their own personal gain, be it $, fame, power or whatever; and many of modern day reporters(?) will fit that category.

Trump may not be what we expect, but w/out a doubt he is far superior to the only other option at the time! There is HOPE for the nation right now, whereas there was NONE for the country had the other candidate prevailed. Some are condemning him for what "HE WILL DO(?)", while we know what the other HAS DONE, which gives a darn good indication of her policies!!

From the op:

"
In a rare post-election interview that aired Sunday, Trump argued for why he did not need to receive regular classified intelligence briefings on national security and foreign affairs, saying he told intelligence officials to only brief him when a situation the intelligence community is monitoring changes.

"I get it when I need it," Trump told "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace.

"I'm, like, a smart person. I don't have to be told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years," the president-elect added. "I don't need that. But I do say, 'If something should change, let us know.'"

Sounds like a wise use of his time.

And Trump is criticizing Obama for not taking his intelligence briefings. Meanwhile, Trump doesn't take his intelligence briefings, in fact, he takes less of them than Obama did. There's a word for that....I just wish I could remember it....starts with an "H"....

The idea of daily intelligence briefings is to keep the President informed as to what is happening in the world. It's not up to the CIA or NSA to be the gatekeeper of whether or not "something has changed". Their job is to present the President with what they know on that particular day and let the President decide what he should do with it.

Otherwise you could get into a situation where the President could blame the CIA for not telling him something.

There are no accurate reports out there to support this claim. I suggest you reread exactly what he said.

President-elect Donald Trump is receiving an average of one presidential intelligence briefing a week, according to U.S. officials familiar with the matter, far fewer than most of his recent predecessors.

It was not immediately clear why Trump has decided not to receive the intelligence briefings available to President Barack Obama more frequently, or whether that has made any difference in his presidential preparations.

An official on the transition team said on Thursday that Trump has been receiving national security briefings, including "routine" PDBs and other special briefings, but declined to specify their content or frequency, saying these matters were classified.

So ignore the reports that Trump takes fewer briefings than Obama. It's not up to the CIA and NSA to decide for Trump if/when something changes. Their job is to report, on a daily basis, what is happening. It's called the Presidential Daily Briefing, or PDB, for a reason.

He won't be big on pomp and circumstance. If he thinks he's wasting his time he'll most likely not have any part of it.

Yep he said he does not want to spend time listening to the exact same thing he heard yesterday so until the report changes then he doesn't want to spend time on it. but when it does change and there is new info he wants it.He wants all new info.

I don't think it's hypocritical. He criticized Obama for requiring daily briefings, but not reading them or paying attention to them. Now he's saying that he's learned from Obama not paying attention to required daily briefings, and he's not going to require daily briefings. I don't see the "hypocrisy."

It may not be wise; but a daily meeting that doesn't provide any value because the individual the meeting is for isn't paying attention, is an unwise use of time and resources.
