Wife was out doing something and so I got to sneak to a Reformed church. The music was traditional, but with some contemporary tunes being sung. They had no guitar, drums, nor band. The preaching was excellent! Verse by verse and the style was like that of MacArthur. The eschatology is dispensational, yet Reformed in other areas so definitely like MacArthur. Preacher hit on Total depravity, Election, suffering, sin, lordship salvation, false converts, perseverance of the saints, human responsibility, etc. He also admitted he did not know all the answers on the issues of election and human responsibility, but we are not to divide from Arminian whom disagree. MacArthur has stomped Arminianism in his books, so he would not agree. However not everyone knows as much as Mac, and even examining my earlier open air sermons Arminianism can be found on my tongue. WinMan himself (the most vocal Arminian here) has agreed to this, and he is the expert Arminian. I also liked the church as I met a friend of the Way of the Master there which is good as WOTM friends are most likely hanging around in Reformed churches. I got into some debates at my last IFB church with some single women in the singles ministry over this issue whom were against Way of the Master evangelism.
Anyways it was good hearing Reformed Theology again.
OK John, time for me to pick on you.
First, thanks for the compliment, but I am not an expert on Arminianism, or anything thing else for that matter.
Second, don't sneak around on your wife. Wives have a type of radar, they KNOW when you sneak around. You will get caught, and she will make sure you are sorry. Just tell her you want to attend a Reformed church.
Alright, now the part that is going to get all the Reformed/Calvinist/DoG or whatever you want to be called all riled up. It is this part of your quote;
Preacher hit on Total depravity, Election, suffering, sin, lordship salvation, false converts, perseverance of the saints, human responsibility, etc.
OK, what's with all this? Don't you guys believe your own doctrine? I mean, in my church we do not have sermons on free will, or conditional salvation, we all know what we believe. We have sermons on practical Christianity, how to live as Christian. We are King James only, and we only preach that once every couple of years.
You guys remind me of Charismatics. Go to any Pentacostal church anywhere, and each week the sermon will be on Acts chapter 2 or 1 Corinthians. All they want to talk about is tongues, healings, and miracles every week. They gotta make sure everybody believes it.
You guys are the same, you have to keep hammering yourselves on Total Depravity, Election, Perseverance of the Saints, etc... It's like you guys are not even sure if you really believe this stuff yourself, so you gotta keep pushing it.
Anyway, quit sneaking around, wives don't like that. She will catch you, and you will be scrubbing the toilet.
