A Hole In The Gospel: God's Message Is Clear, Yet Somehow We Keep Missing The Point
by Richard Sterns of World Vision

I'm reading this right now too. :) Along with Basic Christianity and 'The Bumps are for Climbing On' by Warren Wiersbe... and 'The Shack' as well as a Psalm and Proverb a day and my Zig Ziglar Daily Devotional.

I can't seem to spend enough time to satisfy myself in God's word lately! I love it! :)

Just started America in Crimson Red by James Beller.Book is sub-titled "The Baptist History of America," and deals with the influences of Baptists in the formation of our nation, and many of the influential Baptists who were once well-known, but are now mostly unknown, even among Baptists. We haven't done a very good job of passing down our heritage to the current generation, or the previous generation for that matter. :tonofbricks:

Just finished The Venetian Betrayal by Steve Berry. Just fun reading. Berry combines history with fiction.

Currently reading:

1. The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner by James Hogg. Published in 1824 Wikipeida say the following:

the ultimately unclassifiable novel, set in a pseudo-Christian world of angels, devils, and demonic possession. It has been the subject of increasing critical attention in recent years, and has received wide acclaim for its probing quest into the nature of religious fanaticism and Calvinist predestination.

The first person narrative of Robert Wringhim, which comprises the middle section of the novel, is purported to be a manuscript found in the grave of a suicide's remains. This narrative is preceded by an "Editor's Narrative," a factual description of folklore and local tradition. The final section of the novel describes the exhumation of the suicide's remains and the discovery of the manuscript. The various narratives offer contradictory explanations for the events of the novel, which primarily revolve around the murder of Robert's estranged brother, George Colwan. Each progressive narrative reveals more about the story of the murder and the circumstances surrounding it.

2. Dreams from My Father by Barack Obama.

So far a much better memoir than I anticipated. Interesting stories of his family and his life.

An abridged version of The Death of Death in the Death of Christ, by John Owen. I couldn't read the original by Owen no matter how hard I concentrated so I wimped out and got the abridged version.

I reread Bryson's The Mother Tongue: English & How It Got That Way every couple years; one of my favorites.

Just finished Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, first time I'd read it. Headed to the library today to look for something new...

The Misunderstood Jew: the Church and the Scandal of the Jewish Jesus by Amy-Jill Levine. Levine is a professor of New Testament at Vanderbilt Divinity School. She is also Jewish. She came out to our church and did a program on a Wednesday night. It was very interesting. She is a very engaging speaker, and clearly knows her material. I've almost finished the Introduction, and I'm looking forward to finding out what she has to say.
