Luke 24:21, But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

A Sunday third day resurrection.
A whole Saturday-Sunday night.
A full Saturday second day.
A whole Friday-Saturday night.
A full Friday first day.
An after Sun set Thursday evening to Friday night.

That's ok, the important part is the reason He was born and died.

I know that is something we do agree on.

Main reason is that He died for our sins and save us from eternal separation and rose from the grave. Paving the way for eternal life with Him.
First and foremost only reason.

The resurrection is on the third day.

That is my understanding as well.

Some object because if it is on the third day then Jesus was not in the tomb 3 days and 3 nights (by Western standards).

I think we can know the Resurrection was Sunday. People have difficulty counting backwards.

You have two systems of counting days (did they side with the Jews in Galilee or the Sadduccees)? Or were they describing both (what they would have observed)?

1 Corinthians 15:1-4, ". . . the gospel . . . that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: . . . "

Please explain the two.
The difference is calculating a day from sunset to sunset vs Temple service calculation from sunrise to sunrise (dawn to dawn).

This is how it is possible for an observer to see a passover animal being killed before the Passover (depending on where the person was, what group, what ritual).

The 1st century saw stark divisions and differences between sects (particularly between the Jewish practices and Temple practices).

Remember....this was one reason (differences in ritual practice) that the Sadducees had Pharisees crucified not too long before Christ's birth).
