What is a "feminist'?

I do not support feminism or mutual submission. I do not believe in a woman working outside of her home. However, I do not think to be a godly woman I need to wear sack cloth and ashes or wear clothing like you are convicted to wear.

I also think your judgement of the rest of us is based on outward appearances.

I did not say all ladies. And I did not mean you. But, I have observed that MOST who posted in these threads men and women who supported pants for women also taught mutual submission or feminism.

I do not wear sackcloth and ashes.

I discern who a person is from what they write here.

You have judged that I wear sackcloth and ashes and black wool socks when I have not ever said that I wear either.

No, You said you wear blue calico dresses because your husband prefers blue while you prefer pink. The women I know from my home school group who are dresses only Baptist wear the black woolen stockings, no make-up, no jewelry, etc.

I am certainly NOT a feminist! I've taken quite a bit of heat on this board for my belief that a wife belongs in her home.

Hubby is to arrive soon so I'll sign off.

I'm like Gina. I am in shock over some of the deinitions of feminism.

I just had a thought. What would happen to the economy of our country if all the women quit working a paying job and stayed at home?

I am very thankful that the Lord gave me the opportunity to get an education and a position as well as allowing me to be a wife, mother, and now a grandmother. I feel so blessed. I thank Jesus and praise Him every day.

My motto is that retirement is worth working for.

I now can do many more things that glorify my Lord and God. I can use the training and experiences now to further my work for Him.

I have a loving husband who is a leader and the head of his family. He is a worship leader and a Biblical scholar. I am so very fortunate and thankful.

I believe that women have choices. If they wish to stay at home, then they may. If they wish to work outside the home, then they may. It is wonderful when a woman is fortunate to be able to stay at home (if she wants to). Many times some women are not that fortunate and they should not be made to feel guilty if they work outside the home.

I forgot to add that I do not think it is fair for a woman to take a job from a man, when she does not NEED that job.

You may be very sorry you asked! [IMG] Since you did, I'll give my opinion. I think it would be a WONDERFUL thing! Then all the men who are out of work would have a job and a LOT of the adultery in our world would cut down. (A lot of adulterous relationships starts at work.) Of course, this is my humble opinion, and remember, you did ask. :D

Quite possibly, unemployment would go up. The potential lessened demand for goods and services from women having less income could lead to less jobs available, not more. There could of course be offsetting benefits.
But it is not straightforward.

Wow! From reading this thread, I've decided not to get a wife. I want a slave instead.

On a serious note, we are to indeed submit to each other. Paul places no qualifiers on this. There is a special relationship of submission to the husband and the wife, but in no way does Paul exclude the husband submitting to the wife.

On another note, there are many Christian therapists who would state that submission to the point of not being free to even ask a question to her husband would be considered emotional abuse. At least it would be here in the state of Florida, according to the state statutes.

There would be lots of classrooms without teachers.

There would be lots of patients without doctors, nurses, and other health care providers.

There would be lots of churches without office staff and ministers.

I agree. Women who are unmarried could continue to work or those who had lost a husband or whose husband makes them work....... but there are so many men out of work and the majority of affairs do start in the workplace.

This is just MY opinion too!

Thanks, Karen for your post. Does anyone have any up to date statistics on the percentage of men and women in the work force versus the percentage of unemployment.

Isn't it interesting to the the point of views?

How can one who has not been in the workforce say what goes on there?

How can one who has not been fortunate to stay at home know how wonderful it is to stay at home until they are given the opportunity?

The women who have held down full time jobs, been a wife and mother, know that they take very good care of their homes, husbands and children. They do all the things that the stay at home moms do. Ok, I ducking now.

In fact, I'm signing off for the day to go play with grandchildren. The ones who do not have a mother to work or stay home.

Yes, it is! [IMG] I like to talk about things without hard feelings and I truly hope I've not caused any hurt or hard feelings, because that has never been my intention. [IMG]

I don't know about that, but I have worked outside the home. I worked as a single gal as a cook, cashier, bookkeeper and secretary. After I married, before I had children, I worked as a secretary and bank teller. After the divorce, I worked as a bookkeeper again for a few months. My children and home were going to POT and I couldn't keep up. I prayed for the Lord to allow me to work from home and He sent me FIVE children to babysit! Now I'm a website designer from home. [IMG]

I don't see how these ladies do it. I do marvel at their abilities! I just know I could not do it. I couldn't do anything WELL when I was spread so thin. :(

Have a great day with those children! [IMG]

I think he said this in jest. I probably should have not posted that. I am sorry I did.

My husband married me when I was a feminist. I was working as a flight engineer.

Many of us have been out there in the world working. I was out there that is why I speak against it. I know all about the affairs, I am sad to say.

>>How can one who has not been in the workforce say what goes on there?<<

I agree. With an amendment to the statement. How can someone who IS not in the workforce say what goes on there?

I was in the "professional" workforce for 3 years with a job that I LOVED from Nov. 95 to Dec 98. That was a while back, there is no way from that time that I know what the pros and cons of as a woman working are today. I feel that if a woman WANTS to work, then she should work. If she wants to stay home, then stay home. I have done both. Both are satifying to me. Both have benefits and drawbacks.
That is something that each family must determine for themselves if the pros outweigh the cons. Each family has different ideas as to what may be a pro and/or a con.
I do not think it is as cut and dried as "all christian wives and mothers" should be at home. My daughter's kindergarten teacher was a Christian wife/mother. And I can honestly say that I was glad that she was there with my daughter. I pray that both of my children's teachers are christians all through their school years.

Stopping in for a minute. I am having fun with gkids. We are looking through Granpa's old comic books...I can't believe he still has them.

I agree and you certainly haven't hurt me or caused hard feelings. As most of you know, I feel very strongly about choices, rights, and living a Christian life. Therefore, I may come on very strong at times, but I really like to see both sides presented and I do not intend to attack anyone for their beliefs and lifestyle.

I am older than any of you and even when I was in high school, there was no doubt in my mind that I would work, at first it was as a teacher. When I discovered that teaching was taking too much time away from my family, I quit until the children were older. When my working was necessary, I went back to work, but as a secretary. There was a time when my husband was not able to work, therefore, I did and we shared the responsibilities at home. Children and husbands are our first responsibilities and we, as women, do what we think is necessary within God's will to take care of our families and homes.

If I were to give any of you advice, I would say, enjoy your families each step of the way.

My prayers are with all who post and all who read that you will continue to find God's Will in your life.
