As I watched a report on the leaks [suspicious leaks indeed] coming out from the Grand Jury in Ferguson over the Michael Brown shooting and subsequent death, I couldn't help but ask myself what it would take to bring this racially diverse society to the point where people of color no longer react and or riot when a person of color is shot by a person of a different race, especially in white cop shootings of black men?

It may never happen, at least in my lifetime, or yours [should the Lord come again], but it would be a wonderful day in America when a person of color is shot by a police officer in the line of duty, and the mistrust of the white cops is no longer at the center of an explosive racial event.

Sure, I know there is still a ton of rouge, self-motivated cops in our police and sheriff's departments that carry a racial bias, and use their power "under the cover of the badge" to commit a crime against another [beating, shooting, profiling and looking for a reason to harass the person based on their color], BUT .... realistically, do any of you have the same hope I have that the day comes when it is no longer a racially motivated crime against another, and where we look beyond the color of the skin and evaluate the crime and incidents based upon the merits of the incident, or in other words, anything and everything but then the difference in the two parties skin color, race or heritage?

So what do you think? *Can America ever become the melting pot of race and heritage where people don't jump to conclusions based on the difference in sin colors and more upon on the merits of the incident in question? *Do you see this as a viable possibility? *And what has to happen in America to get us beyond this ever-present racial divide that awakens when a white cop shoots a black man? *Is it even within the realm of possiblity?

What needs to happen? For people of all races to quit painting entire other races with broad brush strokes and take people individually and judge them on who they are. Stop all the knee jerk, reactionary blaming and accusing from all sides. Everyone, in one voice call wrong wrong, and right right.

Just as there were countless black people who jumped up and shouted, "another racist white man killed another innocent black kid," you can bet there were an equal number of white people who jumped up and shouted, "just a typical black kid trying to murder a cop and got what was coming to him." With no evidence, no investigation, no facts, people of all races had made up their minds and are, to this day, still reacting in complete ignorance.

There are no innocents!

You maybe unto something there. Still, if a black cop had done the shooting of a white kid, I don't believe you'd have seen a similar knee jerk reaction. I f this is true, it seems to show your premise to be lacking a wee bit.

Well, in all fairness, white folks tend to only riot when our sports teams win. We don't have "leaders" promoting social unrest as a viable solution to possible wrongs against us. As much as we try, we also have to accept the fact that for hundreds of years we have told black people they are less than human, and we have treated them as such. In a sense, it can be said they sometimes give us what we asked for. No, I am not eliminating personal responsibility. However, we still have to overcome hundreds of years of no, or little, education, segregation, abuse, etc.

Consider this, we all talk about what we learned from our grandpa's and fathers, etc. Imagine what 20 to 40 year old blacks have learned from their grandpa's and fathers.

I don't know if I could respect rouge colored cops. ;-)

You meant rogue. It reminds me of the book title that sought to debunk Sarah Palin :Going Rouge. I mistakenly gave that library book to my father thinking it was sympathetic. I had misread the word!

Democrats have spent years exploiting race to their own political ends so it would take an end to that habit and then some time to let it fall away.

The GOP's Southern Policy begun under Nixon was and is racist ... as one of his advisers said some years later. Reagan also capitalized using this policy and the GOP is still using it.

Bob Herbert, a New York Times columnist, reported a 1981 interview with Lee Atwater, published in Southern Politics in the 1990s by Alexander P. Lamis, in which Lee Atwater discussed politics in the South:

Questioner: But the fact is, isn't it, that Reagan does get to the Wallace voter and to the racist side of the Wallace voter by doing away with legal services, by cutting down on food stamps?

Atwater: You start out in 1954 by saying, "Nigger, nigger, nigger." By 1968 you can't say "nigger" — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me — because obviously sitting around saying, "We want to cut this," is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "Nigger, nigger."

When both political parties stop using race for their own ends, and when people of all colors stop attacking other races then, perhaps then, racism will end. But it will not be in my lifetime.

In case you do not know who Lee Atwater was:

Harvey LeRoy "Lee" Atwater was an American political consultant and strategist to the Republican Party. He was an advisor to U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush and chairman of the Republican National Committee.

Falsely tying the cutting of food stamps to racism does not make anyone is the GOP racist.

But cutting them simply because they are poor and not white is racist.

I guess you do not believe Atwater when he says the GOP policies played on racism to attract Southern Whites.

More asinine race mongering from you. You ought to be ashamed.

So you make a statement without backup about Democrats using race to their advantage and accuse CTB of race mongering when he countered with well known historical evidence about Republicans doing the same?

Well known historical evidence? Doesn't exist. In fact, it is not even honestly believed by Democrats. They all know it doesn't exist, but choose to "imply" and sometimes make false accusations.

Then there is Sharpton and the other race monger who makes an actual living on race mongering.

Much like the false accusations made against the Tea Party about racial slurs and spitting on black people at rally's. Of course, when cornered on it, they could not even provide one single person who could show any actual evidence.

Then crabby uses wiki for his support. He is more than welcome to use it but excuse me while I ignore it.

Oh, I'm sure you'll ingore it but the problem is that the transcripts of the infamious interiew are available by Alex Lamis in two published books and the audio was made available by The Nation magaizine back in 2012.
