Personally, I am extremely reluctant to say (you pick the terms for your own disagreement) "this ain’t from God" when this very thing is explicitly reported in the Word!!! PENTECOST
God IS NOT limited to any man's belief of, or lack of, His capabilities, regardless of that man's conviction that God cannot/will not do something He did many years ago.
I would be very careful of possibly interfering with a work of God!

Why do you not believe the account I relate to you about the man that went out into the woods and the angel Moroni appeared to him?
Do you lack faith? Do you think it's not possible that God could do this?
That event is contrary to scripture.

peace to you

What you are on about does not diminish what God can do. Just because the devil does counterfeit what God does, is not the reason to dismiss the Lord's Work. Joseph Smith was demonically controlled and a false prophet. Your reformed theology does not allow you to accept the supernatural

I believe Isa46 9-11....
That passage refers to dead idols vs a living God. While this relates to false prophets such as Joseph Smith, what does it have to do with a Biblical manifestation of tongues and interpretation?

are you saying that the God of the Bible is limited in any way? Is He not able to allow the simple thing, as allow somone to understand and speak a language that they normally do? If this is for the Gospel and His Glory? Did God not do this on the Day of Pentecost?

If that was the case, you'd be able to decern The Bible.

The issue is not what God can Do, it is about some common liar telling a couple of doozies.

I just healed your Gaul bladder, btw.

A close relative of mine would go to Christian refugee in Europe every year for two weeks over a period of nine years. He told me about a time when he thought a man spoke English and so he spoke to the man in English, but the man did not speak English. They understood each other well and each spoke in their own language. After an hour he realized the man did not speak English and was a Kurd who left his homeland. Another man who was there had a similar with a man who only spoke Swahili. Each man spoke in their own language and understood what the other was saying. The African man did not speak English and the other man did not speak Swahili. They spoke for two hours.

What are they using this story for? To declare that a believer can receive another baptism with the Holy Ghost with evidence of tongues? Then I say it was made up to hype this other calling. If not... then one has to question what the purpose of that story was for.

There is another story that someone spoke in a another language perfectly & claimed to not know the language, but the same person interpreted that same language? Sorry, no.

But then again, how people are winging it with translating gibberish nonsense has been known too like Joyce Meyers on how she interprets tongues by getting the feel or gist of what is being said. It is no wonder why another church had thought they had the actual gift of tongue and hired a linguist to record and translate all the tongues being spoken there.. But they found out it was just gibberish nonsense and the people were winging the translations there too. If they believed as Joyce Meyers had believed on how to interpret tongues, the it is no wonder why that church believed they had the real God's gift of tongues.

If the story from the OP was a man of God being lead to share the gospel with a person who had no knowledge of Jesus redemption and the culture in which that pagan lived had no knowledge of the gospel, I would praise God for his gracious gift of tongues as a means of spreading the gospel. Since there is no evidence of God doing a Sovereign work of redemption, I take the story to be apocryphal in nature.
I have no doubt God might graciously give a gift of tongues in a special instance, but it is only in relation to speaking the gospel to an unreached people.

I have heard first hand accounts of God using tongues. Given the people I do not doubt their experiences. Elmer Towns once talked about his experience with a person who was demon possessed. I believe Towns to be an honest man and take his word for the encounter.

I have not experienced any of those things. I have witnessed people "speaking in tongues" but for no purpose. I actually do not doubt their sincerity, but I doubt what I witnessed was biblical.

With the OP I would be interested in the result. If the event resulted in God drawing someone to salvation then I praise God.

But the greater miracle would not be a supernatural understanding of another's language. It would be the supernatural transformation of a lost soul into a child of God.

Scripture is far from clear on these gifts continuing or ceasing at a particular time in history (there are various interpretations that fit within the context of Scripture and the range of the text regarding these gifts).

As I have not encountered these events I have no theology concerning them except perhaps the "proof is in the pudding". Gifts are never an end unto themselves. The question to ask is what became of the people who experienced these things.

Pentecost Is a historic event. The first Exodus was a historic event.
They are not being repeated.
Apostolic sign gifts and the Apostles are not here now.
If God stops additional revelation having given us His word and Spirit we are bound to His word.

based on what Bible texts? the famous one from 1 Corinthians 13, which says nothing for what you believe!
I have answered this several times when people wanted to know.
You are not sincere so if you are curious you can search it out.
I do not believe that you have any idea on the issue.

I used to attend the biggest Pentecostal church in London in the late 1980's, so know very well about all there is to know!
