Looks good to me, except the word "salvific" which I am about to go look up!

My suggestion for a belief statement.
I apologize to Rhet if this is out of order. As one might imagine, some existing creeds represent the results of struggles of denominations or associations to define themselves, consequently, at times, these are too precise, I suppose, for our use. So, here is one, I just wrote, which is more general.
We believe:
1. The 66 Books of the Bible in their wording in the originals are inspired and inerrant and are the final authority over belief and practice.
2. There is only one GOD, who eternally exists in three Persons , Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, which Persons are perfectly equal in nature, attributes, power, and glory. God is creator of man and the universe.
3. Man is born a sinner, thus in need of salvation, because of the transgression of Adam, and consequently man is unable except by grace to choose and love God
4. God the Father loves man so greatly that He gave His only Son to save man by the Son's vicarious death, and the salvific merits of this death are applied only to those who believe and accept Christ as Lord and Savior.
5. God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who , by His virginal conception is now both true man and true God , existing in one Person, with no blending of the attributes of His two natures, died a redeeming, substitutionary death for our sin , was bodily resurrected and ascended , now intercedes for us as our High Priest, and He will personally and physically return to earth.
6. God the the Holy Spirit applies to individuals, who only are saved by grace through faith, the salvation merited by the redeeming death of Jesus Christ.
7. This salvation attained by faith, not works, includes forgiveness of sins, a new nature and giftedness ,empowered by the Holy Spirit, to love and serve God, being at physical death in the presence of God Himself instead of in a literal place of eternal punishment , and receiving a resurrected and glorified body at the time of Christ's second coming.
8. The Church is the body of Christ and members of local churches should be baptised in water by immersion , not to save, but because this is commanded and exemplified by the apostolic churches, and Christians also should regularly participate in the Lord's Supper as a memory of His death and next coming. The local church has offices as elders (pastors, bishops) and deacons. The church exists to worship God, edify the saints, and reach the lost.
9. Christians are to consistently grow in grace through prayer, worship, service, witnessing, learning, and fellowship, and total surrender to God.
10. We recognize that indivuals connected with our Academy may hold beliefs more comprehensive and more particularized than are these.

In #7 above could we say something about "regeneration" and that "faith and repentance" are both gifts given by a "Grace Gift" of God @ regeneration.
It seems to me to imply that faith actually attains the salvation. I don't want this to be too Calvinistic--BUT! If you read it you will see what I mean. Sometimes it is hard to critique our own work.

How do the added remarks between [ ] sound? IMO we should avoid an assertion of transparent "Calvinism" even though I am of that thinking anthropologically and soteriologically.

responding to a suggestion, #1, #9 might be modified to read as in the [ ]:
1. The 66 Books of the Bible in their wording in the originals [only] are inspired and inerrant and are the final authority over belief and practice. [Many good versions and translations correctly ,in the main, faithfully represent the originals. And these faithful translations are , to the degree that they represent the originals, quite sufficient for salvation and for Christian growth. However, only the originals are deemed to be inspired and inerrant and, finally and completely, authoritative over belief and practice when correctly interpreted.]
.
9. Christians are to consistently grow in grace through prayer, worship, service, witnessing, learning, and fellowship, and total surrender to God. [While we are not intending to align ourselves with the degree of legalism seen among some , we do affirm some practices as abortion and marriage between those of the same gender to be inconsistent with Biblical morals]

I am satisfied with your refinements on #7.
PRINT IT!!!!!!!!!!
I would be interested to know who wanted the revisions on #1 & #9?
Let me know if I can help. There is always a problem with a SOF, it has to be broad in some areas and narrow in others. It is hard to please everyone. You have made a good and earnest try.
Keep up the good work.
sdg!

Thanks. I have no working printer.
I suggest we wait a couple of days for thinking about possible revisions. Then, I will rewrite it here to reflect what we've agreed. Another then can print it as needed.
I will let the one who suggested additions to 1, 9 make himself known if he wishes.
This creed is still in the planning stage and open to suggestions. My feelings will not be hurt.
May all we do glorify only Christ and serve only to advance His cause.
Bill G.

Are the changes noted on number 1 and 9 "officially" accepted?

As you know one point of contention between Arminian and Calvinistic thought is whether man's faith precedes God's regeneration or whether God's regeneration precedes and produces faith. To affirm the latter is unabashed Calvinism. While I could personally agree to that tenet, I'm not sure that it is in our best interest in this endeavor to take such a sharp stand on that issue. Yet with the the clause "God's grace leads to repentance" both sides will agree.
