MISSION

Our purpose is to train men and women to be properly prepared to enter the field to which God has called them, whether it is pastor, teacher, missionary or evangelist. We will train them in both the academic and practical aspects of ministry to do the work of the ministry in a manner that will bring honor and glory to God.

This is draft for openers. Feel free to comment, add, change, delete or write your own draft and we will go with what we as a group feel is best.

POB , Rhet, and others:

I would like to add a comment re justification in point 7 as:

"...a regeneration, a justification wherein we are declared justified by the righteousness of Christ being imputed to us, a forgivness..."

OK?

Are we, then, saying that we will train women to be pastors?

Any other schools called BBTI?

'teacher' needs to be qualified.

As to the target students my feelings would be along these lines:
Regular Bible college or seminay would be an extreme financial hardship.
Relocation to a Bible college or seminary would be nearly impossible.
There is no reasonable alternative to attend a sound Bible college, institute,or seminary which provides sound Bible based doctrinally sound training.

Again just my thoughts.Anything can be added, changed, or deleted as long as it keeps the proper spirit intact.

are you saying there is now no reasonable distance ed program as an alternative to residential studies??

One other thing I would like us all to agree on,that is that this school remain an institute or academy.
I am all for excellance in the education we provide. It is also my hope that many of our courses are transferrable to other schools

But at the same time it is my hope that we are the Beacon to which others look to emulate.

POB,

"Christian Layperson" I believe needs to be added to the mission statement. We don't want to exclude any that teach ss in their church and just want more Bible knowledge.

Bless your heart, I just must know why you have calling me HZ :D Is it that lightening bolt?

UZThD stands for, Doctor of Theology,{in Systematic Theology} University of Zululand. Just vanity, I know ;)

Actually they use D.Th., but as in the USA it is Th.D., I will go with that in some contexts.

To all,

I am with POB. I would say to stay on the academy, institute, or at the most the college level. At this time this would be about all that we can handle in our stage of developement.

Later if the school gets off the ground well, then we can procede to the grad school level if we see fit.

As to the woman's issue. We are not going to "ordain" b/c we can't--only the local church can do that. I would say that we take on all comers; male, female, young, old, ones from other denoms, or ANY WHO CAN MATRICULATE (when we decide what that means?).

We only want to be a blessing to those who have fallen through the cracks as it were. What someone does with the ed we give is up to them.

True?

HZThD,

I know of your degree for sure. You and I have been around the block as it were a time or two.

It is just shorthand like a nickname. If it is offensive I will use the whole moniker?

Let me know.

I agree with Rhet and POB re keeping it an institute.

IMO that means no grad sort of courses should be taught.

I suggest we think about a possible two year curriculum as our highest certificate and a one year as our lowest.

The higher one might be 30 courses of two semester units each (or the quarter hr equiv). That would equal in general the work of an AA.

Perhaps they could be divided thus:

Practics: 8 courses

Doctrine: 8 courses

Bible: 14 courses

Dear Rhetorician and UZThD,
While we are moving much quicker than I though we would is it possible to get started on setting up courses in: Survey of the O.T.,Survey of the N.T.,hermeneutics,homiletics.

POB,

You might be correct. We may need a JD to help us some here now.

What state will the academy be held or housed?

Do we need to apply for a state education charter of some sort?

Some states are very persnickedy (sp) about saying you are granting degrees b/c of the diploma mills and such that are out there.

Some things to ponder.

HZThD is right on target as usual. I would suggest though, that we take aome grad school courses in the above areas where/when they will plug in.

Something needed for sure is English Grammar. The program needs to be strong in that in the practical areas(s). We need grads who can stand to preach, to teach,& to present the Gospel and do it with good diction and proper grammar? True?

Part of that may fall back on me as I teach "Teaching Methods" and/or "Homiletics."

Go figure!

POB,

I have a "Hermeneutics" course I can begin whenever you want.

I teach it now at the college where I am employed.

If push came to shove I could put together a "Homiletics" course fairly easily.

Why not first decide on all the courses we think should be taught. Then select from these , say, 5-10 we wish first to offer. Then ask qualified teachers to do these 5-10 courses-- one course each. Then allow these teachers to ready themselves within, say, 3-6 months to each teach one course.
