Something needed for sure is English Grammar. The program needs to be strong in that in the practical areas(s). We need grads who can stand to preach, to teach,& to present the Gospel and do it with good diction and proper grammar? True?

I could teach English Composition and am credentialed in that in the state of Calif for life and was in Oregon until 2004. I would do it by assigning brief papers and would coach students in written expression including grammar, spelling, and punctuation through revisions.

Part of this may be a little less traditional in thinking then we are used to.
See how this works for you.
In order to get a certificate of pastoral training the following courses are required..........
There is also a reading list which must be completed prior to graduation and issuance of a certificate or diploma.

In order to get a certificate of missionary training the following courses are required........There is also a reading list which must be completed prior to issuance of a certificate or diploma.

The certificate or diploma should read something to this effect:
Bob Smith has completed the course of study for pastoral training at Baptist Bible Training Institute. He has properly been trained for the Pastoral ministry in accordance with the High standards of the institute.

We should also provide one free copy of transcripts for each graduating student.

What do you guys think? Also with the amount of training we need to do it might be a 3 year institute.

POB,

It seems to me that three years might be a little aggresive. A tw year diploma or certificate would be doable in my mind.

Then, if we find someone to take the hrs we could have a good base for an Associate degre (AA).

Just a thought.

sdg!

The word degree concerns me in that we will have to deal with finding a state to allow us to issue these degrees. (I think this has been mentioned.) I fear that this will, in turn, turn the free program into something that will have a cost attached (for nothing more than to pay the people necessary to file the proper paper work, etc.) Once this avenue is taken, it would be easy to justify future increases in price to pay for things we think need to be done. Before long, this institute would be no different from the other distance learning institutions out there.

Of course, I assume that we will run into the same issues when trying to set it up for these hours to transfer to an established college. If we could set this up in one of the states we live in, we may be able to avoid some of these issues.

I have never had reason to deal with the department of education, so I don't know what all will be involved. I can look into it here in the state of Oklahoma, just to get an idea of what would be involved. We could find a situation where we could find the state best suited to our needs, and then recruit a volunteer from that state to assist us.

Of course, if we offer only certificates, this problem could be avoided, at least to some degree. Like I said, we may run into the problem if we try to allow for our courses to be transfered to other institutions. I do not know how the accreditation agencies will look at an institute that isn't tied in to any state or other accreditation agency. Perhaps someone familiar with the Seminary Extension of the SBC could answer these questions. I don't know who that person would, be-- but I will try to find out. If anyone else knows anything about the Extension, please let let us know.

I really wanted two get a two year study of greek built in but so far it don't look like we will be able to do that yet.
First one year, then two years, later three years, this will take time to build. But look how far we've come already.
Remember how you eat an elephant.
My suggestions for the 1st year would be:
O.T. survey
N.T. Survey
Bible doctrine
Hermeneutics
apologetics
Personal Evangelism
English Grammer
Using Bible study helps
Creative Bible teaching

Just my thoughts.Toss em around.Add,Adjust,Delete.

Since Personal Evangelism and Creative Bible teaching are on the practical side I would be willing to teach those courses if no credentials are required for them. I have taught courses on personal evangelism, para ministries, and oil painting.I have done some technical writing as in writing soldiers manuals.I have also worked on course development. As I said bsfore I will serve where ever you all need me.If you find someone who has credentials to teach those subjects I will gladly step aside and lend assistance as requested.

Bill, I think we could start with a two year program. Of course, I won't be doing any of the teaching so that would be better discussed by those doing course development. What you have listed for the "first year" would equal about 27 hours of instruction. To graduate from college in four years, a student would have to take more than 27 hours a year, so I could see Greek being put in alongside those courses listed. If there is a person willing and able to teach two years of Greek, I think we should go for it.

This curriculum is one I just wrote.IMO this curriculum would likely produce the most abled and scholarly men and women any two yr program of study could possibly do .

I think that if the content of each course were defined most would agree that in total the curriculum is quite thorough and that each course is very worthy and desirable to have even in a two yr program..

It needs to be remembered that most all courses will interact with Scripture. Therefore, much Bible will be learned even if the course is in eg Theology or Sermon prep.

It is derived from what in my experience is most profitable. Others may have different expereiences. I think it is very doable with a faculty of 5-10 profs.

For the most part (not of course Greek) these courses can stand alone. That is, they require no prereqs. Therefore, the first yr's offering is conditioned not on establishing a proper sequence but on teacher willingness and availability.

Just as a side note...I think that if you want to make transfer of credits easier, you should structure your classes to be 3 credit hours (the usual structure for undergraduate classes).

While we want to design and teach courses that will be recognized by other institutions it is not our desire to issue "degrees" of any type.We will issue a certificate or diploma.

Bro. James Bell could you add:
Christianheritageworks.com
amazingbible.com
torreys.org/bible/
philogos.org/online
to our links page please.
Also could you do 2 other things:
First put a note on the page that it is under construction.
Second, put the site address up here for people to go see. Our page is really comming together nicely.Thankyou very much for your good work and responsiveness.

I'm sure some books will have to be purchased but we want to keep that to an absolute minimum. This is one of the reasons we are including the links right on our web page.I think you will be surprized by the number of books we can use right on the links.
