Auburn Hills — Police responding to a “shots fired” call at a Home Depot store said a customer apparently tried to stop a shoplifter by firing at a fleeing vehicle.

The incident occurred at 2 p.m. at the store on Joslyn, according to a police press release.

A 47- year-old Clarkston woman in the parking lot witnessed one of the store’s loss prevention officers trying to stop a shoplifting suspect getting into a dark colored SUV. The customer — identified as a concealed pistol license holder — reportedly fired shots at the dark-colored SUV as it sped out of the lot.

Here's another idiot:

HOUSTON -- One man is injured after a carjacking and shooting at a gas station in north Houston Saturday night.

Houston police responded to a shooting call around 11:15 p.m. Saturday at a Valero gas station on Jensen Drive at Reid Street in north Houston. Officials say two men jumped another man in the gas station parking lot and took the victim's Chevrolet pickup truck. Police say a witness then pulled out a gun and began shooting at the suspects, accidentally hitting the carjacking victim in the head.

It is really sad and things are so out of control. People just shooting at people, carrying guns. What is this country coming to? She could have been shot herself or shot an innocent person. While shooting at the get away car.

800,000 times per year the presence of a gun stops a crime in progress. And these two idiots have to cancel out all of that and make the rest of us look bad. I hope they give both of them jail time!

Charges should be brought against her. If the story is accurate, her use of a firearm was offensive, not defensive.

That's ridiculous. This woman obviously didn't use good judgment. Why would you shoot at someone who is stealing? No, stealing is not right, but to SHOOT at them?! That's overboard.

Agreed that the lady who shot at the shoplifter needs to have her CCW license revoked and face charges...must be some type of endangering the public charge they can slap on her. A good sized fine and a ton of community service hours would be the perfect punishment. Shooting at a shoplifter....what he stole probably cost less than the bullets she fired.

In stressed situation people just can't decided what's right and what's not. I had a high school teacher who "accidentally" knifed a student when she attacked her.

And that my friends is why there is a growing voice for firearms to be restricted across all sectors of society.

Who in their right mind would pull their gun and start shooting wildly at a car driven by a shop lifter? Did she do a forward roll and slide across the bonnet of her car as well?

As others have said, she's clearly not stable enough to carry, so. License revoked.

Do you have any statistical support for that opinion?

I have carried a gun for over 50 years. First in the military. Then in law enforcement. Now as a retired man with a license to carry.

I have found myself in many, many (all too many!) stressful situations. And every time my training took over and my muscle memory kept me alive and safe.

There are 5 simple rules for gun safety.

1. Treat every gun as loaded.

2. Handle with care (this includes keeping guns out of the hands of children).

3. Identify your target including what is behind, beside, and in front of your target.

4. Never point a firearm at anything/anyone you are not willing to destroy/kill.

5. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire.

Please note the first letter in each rule spells "THINK." Just "THINK" and the rules will keep you and those around you safe.

They need to lock her silly behind up. This has always been an issue that I thought would arise with people who carry concealed weapons is that they would start thinking they are the police and have a right to do what this lady did.

And on another note. I still don't understand why news reporters do this:

The shoplifters were identified as a man in his 40s, who was driving the vehicle, and a man in his mid-40s wearing a black shirt with yellow writing and a black baseball cap. The second man is believed to have run out of the store with a large box of unknown content or value, police said.

You can identify how old you think the people were. But you can't tell us if they were white , black, Hispanic, etc?

I don't get this. Why aren't the police searching for the shooter? Why didn't the person who saw the shooter picking up the shell casings give a description of the shooter and his vehicle? This person also needs to be jailed. This is some straight George Zimmerman type stuff that I knew was gonna start happening more often.

She doesn't have the right to shoot at anyone if her life wasn't being threatened. They were shoplifting and obviously not running to attack her. She just wanted to play police. This is what happens when all sorts of cases get sensationalized in the news and folks start talking about how things would have been different if someone with a concealed weapon had been there. Her psyche and the psyche of a whole lot of other folks is now that if they are ever in a situation where something is happening, they are gonna use their weapons.

And that's exactly the problem. The US will turn into the wild west all over again if some people got their way. Imagine, drawing your guns over a parking space or the last loaf of bread on the shelf...

LOL! The "Wild West" wasn't all that wild! You have been watching too much television!

And look at the 44 states in the US that allow law abiding citizens to carry guns, even carry them openly.

How many "wild west" shoot-em-ups have occurred?

How many? I didn't hear you? How many?

None? None? Not a single one?

So much for your "Wild West" theory!

Well, if you are so emotionally unstable that you would do such a thing, I agree, you should not be allowed to own or carry a firearm. You do know that it is illegal for a mentally unstable person to own or carry a firearm, right? So, if you are so emotionally unstable that you would draw a gun over a parking space or the last loaf of bread on the shelf you should be a prohibited person. And you should also seek professional mental health treatment. Even without a gun a person who would do something like that is still very, very dangerous. After all, if he is arguing over a parking space he is in possession of a 4000 pound deadly weapon. And I sure hope you don't have a knife to cut that bread! More people have been killed by knives than guns!

Well I'm not old enough to remember what it was like in the days of the cowboys, it's about 100 years before my time so of course I'm going off the movies, haha.

On a serious note though, while my response was tongue in cheek, I do think that with stories that are coming out, gun control is going to dominate the news for a long time yet.

As a man that's carried a gun for such a long time, could I ask you to share your thoughts on what's the best way to handle whats going on? Is stricter gun control necessary or is it more about educating people into a different mentality when using and carrying a firearm?

I believe the sentiment expressed by pwarbi was absolutely correct. He said "will become" not is. And George Zimmerman type shootings like this is where it begins. It was only a matter of time that gun carriers started doing this after being egged on by Hannity and Rush and FOX News. Every time something happens, the Dems cry gun control. And the repubs cry " if only someone there had a gun..." It's essentially a call again and again for folks carrying concealed weapons to take action as demonstrated in the two stories ITL listed.

Welcome to the board pwarbi.:)
