DHK, this is based purely upon your
(and others') modern ideas; it is not
a historical fact. Just because the
Sabbath was later changed , and
becaase Sunday is now accepted as
the main worship day, does not mean
that te ancient peoples saw it this way.
This idea is anachronistic, totally
unfounded and unhistorical.
Abyiah,
This is what the Scripture says. How can you argue against that. 1Cor.12:2 is not a modern idea. It says very plainly that they were gentiles. Why would gentiles, previously worshipping dumb idols, have any interest in the sabbath? We have no indication that they did. The only indication from Scripture is that they worshipped on the first day of the week (1Cor.16:2).

Isn't that ironic. Millions of people over the ages must have qualified for
heaven through faith and were never revealed the "truth" of the Sabbath.?
Me for one. Actually I'm told the opposite. And, NO, I'm not listening
to the devil
Have you ever studied the Dark Ages?

The Word of God was suppressed for 1260 years.

It was clothed in sackcloth.

ALMOST as soon as it was taken out of the hands of the suppressors, the MANY truths that had been obscured, were being 're-discovered'

Please tell me WHY you would think that the DEVIL would want you to obey God?

You ignored my other posts about this.

What do you do with the light you have?

So far, it seems your attribute it to the devil.

Strangely enough, every point made by the 4 Sabbath Keepers on this board, have been from Scripture.

The devil does NOT want you to obey.

GOD DOES.

God Bless

the devils also believe, and tremble. (James 2:19)—and therefore saved?

Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. (James 2:24)

There is no God. Psalm (14:1)

Believer should keep the Sabbath (no Bible verse given, just assumed to be true from Scripture like the above Scriptures)

Actually the only 'spitfire' I know of, is a grill they made a movie about.

What do you mean by that?

That I LITERALLY spit FIRE???

I won't even begin to read all the posts under this thread. A few years ago I ran into a guy a work and discovered that he was a SDA. We got along fine and worked together. We talked about the Bilbe all the time. He began to share with me books and tapes about Saturday being the Lord's Day and that Sunday Worship was the mark of the beast. I didn't just blow him off. I studied and prayed and worried if whether he was right or not. Then God gave me the answer.

Hebrews 4
1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

The Word of God says that God didn't give us another day but that He gave us Jesus. The very fellow that was witnessing to me about Saturday was in nedd of a true born-again experience. He died just a few weeks into our friendship. He was 24 yrs. old. All the teaching about Saturday church couldn't and didn't save his soul. I hope that something I said to him helped him in his last moments before he died. I prefer to go to church 7 days a week and some none. Some take Sundays and Wednesdays but usually miss 2 out of three services. The disciples went about ministering door to door daily.

Christ said of the disciples in John 16 "I have MANY more things to tell you but you can not bear them now... the Spirit of truth will guide you into all truth".

The disciples were not "listening to the devil either". Just because someone does not have infinite knowledge or has not accepted a particular point of truth that someone else has accepted - does not mean they are "listening to the devil".

My point is that the Holy Spirit WILL lead into ALL truth and that includes the Trinity and the Sabbath if given enought time and opportunity.

Does that mean we "depend on a dogma about the Trinity for salvation instead of on Jesus"?

Nope.

Its just a fact about the ongoing nature of revealing truth.

Jesus IS the Way the Truth and the Life. IF you are willing to sacrifice for new and unwelcomed truth - the way Peter was asked to sacrifice in Matt 16 for the UNWELCOMED truth that the Messiah would be crucified - then you DO have a love of the Truth.

Isn't it "odd" that if you pick one "truth" like the Trinity - it is perfectly understandable how the Holy Spirit might lead someone over time to accept it - without losing focus on Christ as our Lord and savior. But if you pick Christ's own Holy Seventh-day Memorial of HIS act in creating mankind - well then you might be losing track of Christ? Seems to be cutting and pasting truth - choosing one and ignoring another. My point is that the "Love of Truth" is going to consider them both - with equal clarity given enough time.

My point was that I don't know where any one person is in their walk with Christ and I do not claim to know WHICH new truth upon which they are at this moment being convicted by the Holy Spirit. I know that He does it all the time, but I don't know WHICH one He has selected for a given person as the "new" and "unwelcomed" point of truth - at any given point in time..

IN Christ,

Bob

VL - Christ said "the Sabbath was MADE for Mankind" He did not say "God thought about making the seventh-day into a Holy day - a memorial of His creative act but then decided not to do it and so He gave mankind Christ in the Garden of Eden instead".

There is in fact "no" animosity between Christ the Creator of the World AND His own Holy Day made by Him as a blessing FOR mankind - as a memorial of His Own creative act.

And so even in the New Heavens and New Earth - Christ says "ALL mankind will come before Me to Worship" -- From Sabbath to Sabbath Isaiah 66.

One Gospel, one plan of salvation, One savior - One Memorial of Creation made by Him FOR the benefit of mankind.

The "Day TODAY" in Hebrews four was valid in the days of David the Psalmist as it is "today". And so Hebrews 4 begins by telling us that "WE have had the Gospel preached to US just as THEY (the Hebrews of the OT) also". Heb 4:1-2.

In Christ,

Bob

Perhaps it would be a good thing
for each of the Sabbath keepers
to identify what their individual
religion is. Some confusion still
seems to remain.

Would you also be so kind as to
also tell why you believe you are
saved and a follower of our Lord.
Please add whether or not you
believe Sabbath-keeping saved
you or will save others. Perhaps
this will answer questions and
settle some minds.

I will start.

- - - - - - - - - -

I attend a Baptist-based synagogue.
My two pastors were both reared in
Baptist pastors' homes and were
educated in Baptist seminaries. One
has taught in a Baptist seminary. We
are Torah-observant.

When I was age 23, I prayed my first
real prayer, giving my life to our God.
However, the chuch I attended then
was holiness-Arminian, and problems
arose because of their teachings. As
a result, I prayed for salvation again at
the age of 35 and again at 42. 8o)
That kind of stuff happens under such
teachings.

Regardless, at the age of 53 now, there
is no doubt in my mind that my Lord
has saved me and that He is with me
daily. I know because He is true to
His promises.

I do not believe that keeping the
Sabbath has ever saved anyone,
just as you probably do not
believe memorizing John 3:16 or
saying the Disciples' Prayer
saves; regardless, these are
good and adviseable things to do.

Using the same book, chapter 1,
verses 11 - 13, Paul reprimands the
Corinthians, because they were
fussing back and forth, saing, "I am
of Paul," . . . "I am of Christ." These
people were proud to be following
these leaders, and what did these
leaders do about Sabbath?

Our Lord attended the synagogue
on the Sabbath: Matt 12; Luke 4:16 -
32; 13:10 - 35; John 5; and others.
Paul attended synagogue. Acts
13:13 - 42; 13:44 - 52; 17:2; 18:4.
Who was in attendance in the
synagogue: just Jews? No. Acts
13:43, 48.

Did the Gentiles believers
(sometimes called God-fearers,
sometimes called proselytes)
gather on Sunday while all other
believers gathered on Sabbath?
Hardly. They gathered together,
where they could learn the ways
of our God through teaching and
observation, through hearing the
Scriptures read and discussed.

When the Sabbath was over, at
sundown, it was then the first day
of the week--the time to make
the collection--when Sabbath
was over, so that moneys would
not be handled on the Sabbath.

After this, most would go home
for the evening; then, the next
morning was a continuation of
the first day of the week, until
sundown. At sundown, on what
is called Sunday today, the
second day of the week began.

Why? Genesis records, "the
evening and the morning were
the (first, second, third, etc.)
day."

Abyiah, This is what the Scripture
says. How can you argue against
that. 1Cor.12:2 is not a modern
idea. It says very plainly that they
were gentiles. Why would gentiles,
previously worshipping dumb
idols, have any interest in the
sabbath? We have no indication
that they did. The only indication

DHK
DHK, I did not say that 1 Cor
16:2 was a modern idea; I said
that Sunday, as the worship day,
was a modern idea. 8o)

I am sure the people worshiped
on every day of the week; it is
just that their main worship day --
the one they set aside for our God
and for Him alone -- was Sabbath.

They started the weekly Sabbath on
what we call Friday at sundown by
lighting the candles just before the
sun had set. They used this day to
worship, to study Torah, to teach
Torah, to discuss Torah-related
topics, to do good deeds (called
mitzvot), and to attend either Temple
or synagogue. At sundown, Sabbath
ended and the first day of the week
began.

In the Bible, only one day of the week
was given a name: Sabbath. The rest
were merely numbered--days which
loked forward to the Sabbath.

In the Bible, only one weekly day was
called holy, set aside, sanctified: the
Sabbath.

Spitfire: (3AM)

Did you ever see a small kitten arch it's back and hiss when alarmed?
As harmless as it is, it is a formidable foe for the time being. They've
been called Little Spitfires. You remind me of that.

I'm sorry if I missed some of your questions. There were so many
posts flying around the last two days that I couldn't read them all.
Besides I was busy banging on my piano to them needy folks down
at the Corner Bar. Now I'm seriously in need of sleep. My choice
though...huh?

As for the Dark Ages, I'm not up on it ...No. The Catholics also
thought I should be historically, phonetically and lingually literate.
Here I've been operating on pure faith all these years and now I'm
being told I have to read more books, study volumes and volumes
of various denominational proofs....Well I could, but I'm just not into
it and besides I like to just tell folks to come to a saving knowledge
of Jesus Christ and not be bothered with all the trivial things. For someone
who doesn't realize the need to confess Jesus in the first place; it's kinda
hard to convert them to the Sabbath Plan all at the same time.

I like to give them the whole works within a few minutes and if I
had to prove how Constantine ushered in a hidden truth that was
supressed from kingdom come or how the sabbath truth was hidden
for 1260 years and then revealed through Ellen White early in this centruy
.............I'd have to leave Jesus out entirely !!

The Cult (?) of my childhood made the same claim of supression and
their unveiling of the truth, Spitfire, and God revealed to me that it is
the heart of man that he is after.... not a method or a church or a way.
He IS the way, and his way does not drag bondage with it.

You said....."Please tell me WHY you would think that the DEVIL
would want you to obey God?"

I was referring to God telling me that the Sabbath truth is not for me..
.not satan telling me. Attributing the truth I do have to the devil would
be blasphemy now wouldn't it..!!

You said ..."The devil does NOT want you to obey."

Again; that's the approach of any Exclusive Sect that has a plan to sell ...
other than Jesus Christ. I need a simple format that I understand and
can relate within no more than two minutes. The simple Gospel supplies that.
If I were to cloud it with rules and regulations that I do not understand,
it would leave that person in a worse state of mind than before.

They need to know of God's love, His sacrifice, the promise
and assurance of eternal life and the present help in time
of need. All this is possible through believing that Jesus
was the Son of God and arose from the grave. Accept that,
confess it and believe in in thy heart and ye become
heirs unto salvation. The Holy Spirit is leading hearts into
this light; not a light of one denomination or one day vs.
another. It's best not to even know what denomination a
listener favors. There is only One Truth anyhow and it's
yoke is easy.

It doesn't have to be as complex as you make it, Spitfire.
St. John 3:36 "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life".
Believe WHAT?
1 John 5:5 "He that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God"

Not..."He that beliveth in the Sabbath or He that believeth
in the infallible Catholic Church etc."

Hebrews 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

My experience with Sabbath keepers is that they try and work their way into heaven never accepting the rest of the Lord which is a faith based relationship with Jesus Christ.
