COMMON GROUND COFFEE HOUSE #71

Debby in Philly

Icy, slushy, and mushy here this morning. The office opened late at 9:30. I made it in by 9. Go figure.
Been in two meetings already, and found out we have a new boss. Time to break in another one! That's so hard to do, it never gets easier. You train one the way you like, and they go and promote him.

LOL Debby, maybe you shouldn't train 'em so well!

Good morning all!

Lovely day here, but chilly as well.

I haven't really decided just what I'm going to do today. There are so many things I could do and even a few things I ought to do. Just don't really feel like doing much of anything.

I am waiting on Son's science teacher to call me. He made yet another bad grade, so I need to know just what his average is, so I'll know just how mad to be. I already have him scared half to death. Bad grades just don't happen here.

Sue, you and Brent have fun! Let us know what you find.

Everyone else stay warm!

Hi All, sort of late checking in today. I woke with an ear ache and pretty bad sinus pain. The clinic I go to is closed until Tuesday so I went to one of the satellite offices of the main doctor's office. I have (clear) fluid behind my ear drum and a sinus infection. Head colds almost always end up as sinus infections and or ear infections with me. No fever tho.....

A day in second hand shops sounds like fun! Nick would want to buy everything he saw tho and we've got enough stuff. LOLOL

Gib, you don't want to know.......

Goodness Diane, it is a good thing you got it taken care of quickly.

I've been totally lazy since I could never settle on something constructive. When I get back with the kids from school though I'll probably straighten up the house. Make T think I've been doing something.

I have an extra today. One of Precious' friends is homeschooling this year due to illness. Precious will be surprised to see her, since I told them last night "no friends". Right now she is keeping Bitsy busy. Sometimes extras are a good thing!

I just took my first dose of the two meds, Cindi. I wanted to stagger it and not have to be up in the middle of the night. I hope the decongestant he gave me doesn't make me feel weird.

Nick has AWANA game practice from 9 til noon tomorrow and Jim has several appointments Saturday too. I'll have plenty of time to get some work done with no one home to mess up behind me!

Glad you got on meds right away Diane.

I never did go to the doctor, but I am still sick too! I read in our paper tonight that our local hospital is full of people with upper respitory problems (some is the flu - but not all). Maybe I SHOULD have gone to the doctor...

I didn't feel well enough to stay out all day, but DID find a couple of good bargains at one second-hand shop.

We found (and bought) a royal blue, swivel, padded, desk chair for the computer desk in Brent's bedroom - $20.00 and looks brand new! The colors in his room are red/white/blue. The chair fits in perfectly.

I also do not have any end tables and wanted to buy two tables, that were kind of odd, not really end tables, to put between the two recliners and the wall (not much room). I found, for $10.00, a round table that used to have a pole lamp up through the center. I bought it - the hole will be covered by a doily and a lamp. It's just the right size! Now I only have to find one more and I don't care if it is the same size and shape or not. I like to be different.

The kitchen sink is still clogged up (two days now). Hubby won't give up and call a plumber and I think he's already spent more than a plumber would cost in Draino!?!

I guess he's going to tear into it tomorrow and replace the lead pipes with PVC. One good thing. I don't have to cook until it is fixed and I can wash dishes. LOL

Sounds like you accomplished quite a lot today Sue!

Yep, glad I got the meds. The decongestant for my head isn't working as fast as the Benadryl/ Sudaphed combo I'd been using but the doctor said the Benadryl actually causes the sinuses to swell and retain the stuff so not to use it anymore. I'm really glad the fluid behind my ear drum was clear. I've had some nasty and painful ear infections in my life!

Decongestants, EEEEEWWWWWW!

I haven't found one yet that doesn't make me feel weird. Or sleepy, which is even worse. The only thing I can take is a single sudafed. I stick with antihistamines like claritin and allegra and take plain robitussin. The ingredient in it is very good at draining out sinuses. T gets a perscrition tablet of it that he uses since he is diabetic.

Popscicle sticks, Sue, were the last thing that had my sink stopped up. Drano does no good with wood! Never could figure out just how they had gotten down there, but with 3 kids anything is possible. The other thing that stopped me up good and Drano wouldn't cut was hambuger fat. That happened late one night when T and I were cooking together trying to get supper eaten and kids in bed. When we figured out what was in the trap, neither of us could even remember who it that drained the meat. That meant T couldn't complain! :D

These lead pipes need to be changed over to PVC anyway. That's just one of the hazards of buying a 113 year old house...

Hubby took the pipe apart in the basement and he can't even break up the clog with a hammer and chisel!!!

He said, it is not just food, it is calcium and other deposits that have been in there for a good 30-40 years. He is replacing the whole thing tomorrow.

We will be looking into a water softener Monday.

The PERK, as I said, is not having to cook because I can't wash the dishes... Actually, I love to cook, but with me not feeling well, I'm not gonna mind 'take-out'.

Ah, we had pipes like those in Connecticut. The house had been built in 1947 and been sitting empty for a lot of years because it was tied up in probate court. Jim had to cut them off and then replaced it all with PVC. He put in a new dishwasher at the same.

This house was built in 1892. I have no idea when the pipes were put in, but I'm betting they haven't been cleaned out since!

(Diane: Turn your AIM on please)

Ah yes, the joys of owning an older home.

Been there for sure! I'm definately glad the house we have now was built after PVC was invented. No muscles required for fixing clogged drains.

Good morning all:

This almost feels like a double post!

Papers are folded, getting ready to deliver them.

Had a terrible night, so am coming back home and hit the recliner in hopes that I can get some more sleep.

CYAL,

I had the first half of my stress test yesteray. Part two comes on Tuesday. They won't do the whole test in one day if you weigh over 250 pounds - which I do!

Monday is my colonoscopy - so Sunday afternoon I get to start the "cleaning out" process.

Been a little busy lately. I have been trying to make arrangements to get another storage shed build. I've traveled fifty miles (plus of minus) four times - before I finally made the arrangements with an Amish shed builder.

We also stopped to see some other Amish friends - and I've ordered four oak chairs for the kitchen table and two hand woven baskets that will fit in well with Jan's color schemes in the kitchen.

Now if I would only get the kitchen finished - along with the utility room the living room and the dining room!

A good day to all!

Dan

Boy Dan, that's more 'fun' that one man should have! YUK!

Sue, PLEASE go to the doctor! This is day 11 for you! We don't want you getting pneumonia again.

Tater, Other than my sinuses really hurting for a short time yesterday, I've not felt bad. I've just always had problems with my ears and sinuses since childhood. Thank the Lord, I only get one cold or two a year. There's a major improvement in my 'nose' already this morning.

Jim's already left for an appointment. He should be home by lunch. Nick had made plans with a neighborhood child to meet at 8:00 to play all day. Needless to say, the other child has never come out and poor Nick has been out in 32° weather for over 30 mins. waiting. Finally came in.

Dan-Amish seeing you around. I'm glad you're looking out for yourself. I have been tinkering around with a woodburning tool and some oak walking sticks. You could buy four from me and that would help me finance an upgrade to my shed.

OK, Sue, get yourself to the doctor.

About a month ago, I didn't go to the doctor either. I just called and talked to his nurse.

After 6 days of putting it off, I ended up in the emergency room! My electrolites were shot, my immune system was nil, my potassium level was too low, and I still ran fever.

The doctor in charge really reamed me for not coming in when I was first sick. He said that I was still sick because I never got the proper fluids that would keep my electrolites and potassium at the right levels and that I had picked up a completely DIFFERENT viral infection than the one I first had because my immune system was hanging on for dear life.

So I got a round of fluids mixed with Phenergan intravenously. So now I have this nice red streak running up my arm and my hand/wrist is swollen and painful. He said this would last about six weeks.

And....

I developed an ear infection from being so sick and I have had to take a round of 40 antibiotics. You know how antibiotics make you feel.

I am well, but not 100%. And all because I thought that the virus would wear off and that I could handle everything, because I am wonder woman!

I am actually more like blunder woman.

Go to the doctor!
Now!
Post Haste!
Immediately!

Please take care of yourself. There is only one of you and we like you too much!!!

Peace-

YSIC
