    In the Chicago Tribune today. Earth Day is coming up in four days. So expect more of these types of stories over the next few days!

    Do you believe in God? Then you have a moral duty to fight climate change, writes Jim Antal

    For the record, I think Christians are now being increasingly pressured to accept climate fraud. I think it is a part of a push being led by the U.N. and the EU for global green communism. I think there is ample evidence of corruption of the science of climate change. I will be happy to argue and prove my thesis more later.

    But notice what's new. Pressure on Christians to have the same values and priorities and beliefs as New Agers.

    We are urged to fight for something supported by Junk science, and yet not a peep on fighting against Abortion!

    This fits the priorities of the New Age. There are already too many people on Earth. It may be dressed up in Christianized language, but it's diametrically opposed to Christianity. You can read it all between the lines when you come across language like this in the article:

    Antal writes. “Here in America, if Christianity continues to emphasize personal salvation while ignoring collective salvation, if we continue to reduce the Creator to an anthropocentric projection who privileges and protects humanity, however alienated we may be from God’s created order, then the practice of religion will continue to diminish and it will add little to the redemption of creation.”

    Not only are the values different, but the whole way of speaking is different. Wow, how much of a contrast that kind of pseudo-Christian-speak is with Biblical language! Christ didn't talk that way. God is not the author of confusion.

    Collective salvation? The redemption of creation? This is the Gospel of another Christ.

    The so called Social Gospel, that saves no sinner, and does not save society/culture either!

    I believe we have a duty to be responsible stewards of the environment.

    The problem lies in figuring out what is causing the problem and finding an equitable way to affect it.

    Worldwide distribution of wealth with cheaters like China and India getting a pass is not the way to do it.

    Agree with the above. There are good reasons for reducing my carbon footprint, and many other environmental impacts, that have nothing to do with the climate. That said, this long-time weather hobbyist/statistician sees a definite increase in temperatures, and in large precipitation events, over the past 150 years - about all the years for which we have much in the way of systematic record-keeping. Sorting out the whys, how much (if any) is due to greenhouse gases, and/or natural variability and cycles, and/or changes in microclimates (urban heat islands, for one), is way above my pay grade.

    Give me a break in the 70's we were supposed to be headed for an ice age. Now its getting hotter. The whole thing is a joke and a sham.

    God would have created and built into the Earth the means to regulate the climate, despite what we do!

    Maybe, but it's not above your pay grade to see scientific corruption when it is exposed, as it was in the Climategate email leak scandal of nine years ago. Climate change: this is the worst scientific scandal of our generation

    So do I.

    We are being told the science is settled. We are being told the equitable way to affect it is through C&C (contraction and convergence). C&C is the U.N.'s and the EU's preferred solution.

    C&C has already begun to be implemented in the U.S. Obama already passed his 2009 Executive Order 13514 "Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance". Link from national archives: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2009-10-08/pdf/E9-24518.pdf

    C&C is a part of Agenda 21. Hillary said in the second debate with Trump that she supported Agenda 21.

    Mostly Obama's 2009 order affected coal mining in the U.S. Mostly its result was fewer jobs and higher energy costs.

    Agree. If C&C were to be implemented it would be much worse even than that scenario. It would result in global impoverishment and even depopulation.

    The only way to implement C&C globally would be to tightly surveil and control everybody and everything. The means for implementing this surveillance and control would be the "internet of things", with everything and everybody microchipped. Peoples' carbon credits and debits' would be tracked through this system.

    It is currently a real plan.

    Revelation 11:16-18
    And the twenty-four elders, who sit on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying,

    “We give You thanks, O Lord God, the Almighty, who are and who were, because You have taken Your great power and have begun to reign. And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to reward Your bond-servants the prophets and the saints and those who fear Your name, the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.

    The word "earth" is also used a lot in Isaiah 24:1-23, but it is the translation from the Hebrew word "land", and the context renders the meaning as the land of Judah where Isaiah lived.

    Isaiah 24 New International Version (NIV)
    The Lord’s Devastation of the Earth
    24 See, the Lord is going to lay waste the earth
    and devastate it;
    he will ruin its face
    and scatter its inhabitants—
    2 it will be the same
    for priest as for people,
    for the master as for his servant,
    for the mistress as for her servant,
    for seller as for buyer,
    for borrower as for lender,
    for debtor as for creditor.
    3 The earth will be completely laid waste
    and totally plundered.
    The Lord has spoken this word.

    4 The earth dries up and withers,
    the world languishes and withers,
    the heavens languish with the earth.
    5 The earth is defiled by its people;
    they have disobeyed the laws,
    violated the statutes
    and broken the everlasting covenant.
    6 Therefore a curse consumes the earth;
    its people must bear their guilt.
    Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up,
    and very few are left.
    7 The new wine dries up and the vine withers;
    all the merrymakers groan.
    8 The joyful timbrels are stilled,
    the noise of the revelers has stopped,
    the joyful harp is silent.
    9 No longer do they drink wine with a song;
    the beer is bitter to its drinkers.
    10 The ruined city lies desolate;
    the entrance to every house is barred.
    11 In the streets they cry out for wine;
    all joy turns to gloom,
    all joyful sounds are banished from the earth.
    12 The city is left in ruins,
    its gate is battered to pieces.
    13 So will it be on the earth
    and among the nations,
    as when an olive tree is beaten,
    or as when gleanings are left after the grape harvest.

    14 They raise their voices, they shout for joy;
    from the west they acclaim the Lord’s majesty.
    15 Therefore in the east give glory to the Lord;
    exalt the name of the Lord, the God of Israel,
    in the islands of the sea.
    16 From the ends of the earth we hear singing:
    “Glory to the Righteous One.”

    But I said, “I waste away, I waste away!
    Woe to me!
    The treacherous betray!
    With treachery the treacherous betray!”
    17 Terror and pit and snare await you,
    people of the earth.
    18 Whoever flees at the sound of terror
    will fall into a pit;
    whoever climbs out of the pit
    will be caught in a snare.

    The floodgates of the heavens are opened,
    the foundations of the earth shake.
    19 The earth is broken up,
    the earth is split asunder,
    the earth is violently shaken.
    20 The earth reels like a drunkard,
    it sways like a hut in the wind;
    so heavy upon it is the guilt of its rebellion
    that it falls—never to rise again.

    21 In that day the Lord will punish
    the powers in the heavens above
    and the kings on the earth below.
    22 They will be herded together
    like prisoners bound in a dungeon;
    they will be shut up in prison
    and be punisheda]">[a] after many days.
    23 The moon will be dismayed,
    the sun ashamed;
    for the Lord Almighty will reign
    on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem,
    and before its elders—with great glory.

    The word "earth" in that context could also include all the lands where the Israelites had lived, been taken into exile, or had fled to.

    That's true, and many scientists are guilty of prostituting themselves in the interest of going along with the crowd and/or gaining grant $$. However, there are some folks who would deny that humankind could ever do anything to alter the climate or that carbon dioxide has had, does have, or ever could have any effect on climate. On the other side are those who declare that we must cut our carbon footprint by 80% before 2030 or we are doomed. Unfortunately, the media like to headline statements from those camps.
    As for the link (which I have not opened), there's lots of scandal in the way many in the majority view camp have bullied anyone who dares to disagree, and in how some of the data has been massaged. However, the phenomenon of climate change itself dates back at least to the Flood, perhaps back to when God cursed the earth after expelling Adam and Eve from the Garden.

    One bottom line for me is that we cannot destroy the earth; God reserves that to Himself. Whether or not He chooses to have humankind be an agent in that destruction is entirely His prerogative.

    That may be true, but since human beings were commissioned by God to take care of the earth and all that dwell in it (Genesis 1:26-30), and God will judge those who destroy the earth (Revelation 11:16-18), failing to be a good steward of the earth is open rebellion against God.

    God's purposes are not going to be thwarted by my sin or your sin, but we will be held accountable for what we have done. So we can't just claim that our personal and corporate actions are irrelevant.

    We will just ignore the misuse of the Revelations passage. Good grief. Our climate changes, that is just the natural course of things as God has set them up. The idea that somehow man is destroying the planet is completely false. The science behind it is bad because temps are manipulated and there is funding to those in that field who discover evidence of man caused warming. It is a dishonest discipline. Period.

    the intent behind it is to have reason to redistribute US money to other countries which have been stifled from creating their own industry.Anyone who believes this junk science is gullible and uninformed.

    Yes.

    Except that we have damaged the planet in many ways and continue to do it. I grew up in a very polluted part of the United States. I remember what it used to be like before the EPA was formed and brought regulations to the oil industry. Now, it is much cleaner and healthier, although still not where it needs to be.

    We have huge areas of the ocean where plastics swirl in the currents, affecting wildlife, with no real plan to clean it up.

    If we burn a large amount of fuel each day and destroy huge sections of vegetation that takes in all of the carbon dioxide and carbon and converts it to oxygen, then we are going to have at least some negative effect on the climate. That's just common sense. As Christians, we are supposed to be good stewards of the world, so we should try to live as cleanly as possible.

    Regarding all of the climate change alarmism, I think much of it is overblown, but we may see the seas rise in many coastal areas and oceans as part of long term trends cause by solar activity, fossil fuel pollution, etc.

    What is harmful is that Christians in this country have reacted to the climate change alarmism by simply going the other direction and trying to undo the gains we have made to reduce pollution. We have neglected the biblical mandate to be good stewards of the earth, and, by our political rhetoric, we are teaching the next generation that God is indifferent toward His creation.
