22¶Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:.

We can see here that Peter is addressing Jews ( Israel) .

33Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

36¶Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
Again we see ' ISRAEL '
37¶Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38¶Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

So we see here the information is to Jews . They need to repent . They need to step back and away from their idea that Jesus was a criminal who deserved to die . Now they are being told he was their deliverer .
They are to repent of this specifically.
They ask ' what must we DO ' , so eternal salvation is not in view here like it is in Acts 16.30 . Rather to Israel ,deliverence from their enemies by their messiah is the focus. Hence " what must we do "
This makes sense given now thier messiah was crucified , buried , rose again and was now seated at the right hand of the Father.

    Thoughts?

" Now when they heard [this], they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men [and] brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

This is the same order given in the rest of Scriptures that deal with salvation / conversion:

    1) Hearing the words of God.
    Who hears?
Those that have ears to hear ( Matthew 10:15 ), and those that are "of God" ( John 8:43-47 ).

Who is "pricked in their hearts" when they hear?
The same group that God opens the hearts so that they may "attend" ( listen intently ) to God's words ( Acts of the Apostles 16:14 ).

    2) After hearing, they repent, are baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
    See Ephesians 1:13.

Acts of the Apostles 2:38, in a section where Peter, the apostle to the Jews, is preaching the same message to them that Paul preaches to the Gentiles.
God is acting in the very same way towards His elect Jews as He acts towards His elect Gentiles.

First He opens the heart, and then they listen and believe His words.

Notice further down in the chapter who the promise of remission of sins is made to...
As many as the Lord God shall call ( v.39 ).
Also notice who the Lord adds to the church...
As many as should be saved ( v.47 ).

God acts, and the objects of His grace then react to His power and gracious work in their hardened hearts.

This first sermon speaks to limited atonement. It's to Israel God's chosen people. The difference is that Israel Spiritual includes gentiles and jews Abraham's Spiritual children.

No from reading the text. Peter was speaking to a particular people and not the whole world in general. Read the text.

Gentiles belong to Spiritual Israel, the Israel of God Gal 6:16

And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

It was a mystery that gentiles belongs to the Spiritual house of Israel.

Peter was preaching to Spiritual Israel that happened to be jews, but race is no factor in Christ Jesus.

Who does it say Peter is speaking to in Acts 2.38 ? It sounds like you've allowed replacement theology into your thinking.

    Acts 11 .
18¶When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Are these just ' Spiritual ' gentiles ?

When Peter preached that sermon he thought salvation was only for jews. That is why Jesus taught him a valuable lesson later with Cornelius in Chapter 10 of Acts. So he preached a limited atonement.

Jesus specifically told them to only go to Jews first. It doesn't change until Acts 11 . Peter was not messing up . He was being obedient to Jesus . After Israel finally reject Jesus in Acts 7 do we see a transition . Not that any of this discussion matters to a calvinist . Calvinism s authority is not scripture , but the teachings of Calvinism imposed onto the text. Once you adopt the 5 points you can no longer read the bible properly anymore.

It was Jesus who taught him to only go to the Jews . It was not right for a jew to go to a gentile. Then in Acts we read ...Acts 11
15And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

16Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

17Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

18¶When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

So Peter s first sermon and the first sermon of the body of Christ was limited atonement. Today is limited atonement, Christ died for His Sheep. Jn 10:11,15. Who did Jesus specifically say that He layed down His life for here?
