I have never been a big fan of Russ Moore, going back a very long way when he used to write for Baptist Press.

However, he seemed to have found his moral and ethical voice in the role, so I was pleased with his consistency and his willingness to state unpopular biblical positions.

Anyone who has a clear understanding of scripture, a gift for communication, and an ethical backbone would be a good fit. I doubt that the SBC, in its current state, will put anyone like that in that position.

No, just most of the leaders who were trying to push Moore out because he did not bow the knee to Trump.

No one wants him to be "woke." But many of you mistake being an ethical Christian for being "woke," and then throw all kinds of pseudo-Marxist assumptions on top of it.

It works when businesses and professions have higher ethical standards than some Christians. I was pointing at the low bar of business ethics and how many Christians have lower ethics than that. That's the point.

Pandering to the BLM is not what the Church of Lord Jesus has been commissioned by Him to be doing!

Trump was and is a sinner like all of us, but what he stood for was much netter overall then what either president Obama or Biden stand for!

The Church in America is bowing down to getting woke up and to liberalism, NOT to the mandates of the scriptures!

Interesting. What unpopular biblical positions are you referring to?

You have a very bad habit of trying to put words in the mouths of others. That's dishonest.

You list those things as if they were true.

I was frustrated by Trump NOT being pro-life; NOT being pro America (he was pro-Trump, but claimed to be pro-America), and claiming things were "socialist" when they were not. He also pushed an "America First" position which disciples of Jesus cannot support, and regularly ignored and undermined the rule of law.

We have all sinned and almost certainly sin again, but let's stop rationalizing everyone as morally equal. And sinfulness is a lot different than criminal behavior. Trump has exhibited criminal behavior, such as the Trump University scam and the Trump Foundation, where, among other things, he admitted that the "Donald J. Trump Special Event for Veterans" (in Iowa on January 28, 2016) where his foundation kept approximately half of the proceeds ($2.823 million of $5.6 million) instead of giving it to veteran's groups. What was received by veteran's group was contributed to them directly by donors.

Beyond that, former President Trump is apparently a compulsive liar, and his lies are well documented, although his admirers brush it off. But the righteous hate what is false (Proverbs 13:5) and God hates a lying tongue and the person who creates conflict (Proverbs 6:16-19).

I strongly disagree, but I don't expect you to understand if you can't recognize the issues with Trump.

    Says who?

Everything I have advocated is grounded in scripture or based on objective reality (truth).

Really? How do you know that?

I told you several times a day. I certainly hope you are praying for Biden at least that much.

Off the top of my head, I remember he caught a lot of flak for being an advocate of religious liberty by supporting the right of Muslims to build a mosque in New Jersey. It was completely consistent with biblical values and our Baptist heritage of separation of church and state. Yet, in the age of Trump, many in the SBC rejected those values and heritage and attacked Moore.

Moore also pointed out that Trump was not who he claimed to be in the 2016 campaign, contrary to the fawning viewpoints of people like Franklin Graham and Robert Jeffress. He also opposed Trump's "Muslim ban" (the first version of the travel restriction) because it was unconstitutional and also went directly against biblical values and our Baptist heritage. That brought him a lot of hostility.

This is a decent summary of the issues.

Trump advocated for legal citizens being made priority, American companies and workers, and that economy should be free market based. and that less government is best government! And he was the strongest pro life president ever in office!

Yes, and that's counter to the biblical mandate. A Christian should not support it.

Except he made a mess of it. He enacted tariffs that the American consumers have been paying, and single-handedly destroyed the soybean market, among others.

We have had a completely free market and it enabled the rise of monopolies and trusts that Teddy Roosevelt had to break up for the sake of the American economy and consumers. We have a regulated economy that has served us well. Changing that can have huge consequences, especially when it is done at the whim of a President who doesn't even understand the basics of a modern economy.

I realize that many people believe that, but it is not necessarily true. Our government does a lot of things that private enterprise can't or won't do that creates a better quality of life, a better business environment, and stabilizes our nation. The premise that "cutting regulations" is always a good thing is particularly foolish. For instance, Clinton cut back a lot of food inspection services and capabilities in the mid-1990s and we have regularly had food recalls ever since, many of them quite serious.

He was only "pro-life" if you mean that he gave lip service to being anti-abortion. Otherwise, that statement is false.
