When a church in your neighborhood sports a rainbow out front.

Oops, my bad. I missed the rule in the fourth thread down. If I broke the rules, then delete the thread. Sorry.

Hades/Sheol, and it's absence from reformed theology.

I would really be unjust for Luke to mention that David's corpse was still in the grave, and thus did see corruption, without mentioning that he wasn't in Hell, if actual hell was what was meant.

    Self esteem?

High self esteem in the world of the new psychology seeks to eliminate the guilt of our conscience that results from sin. Unfortunately, this is exactly what many modern day preachers teach when they exclude from their preaching anything that may offend, like preaching on sin. Spurgeon...

When a church in your neighborhood sports a rainbow out front.

It could be a flag, or a background on a sign. These are not Christian churches, but liberal churches. You won't find Jesus there. They will come as angels of light, though. I've seen a few in my neck of the woods already. The one in this youtube video is claiming to be a Baptist church.

Should Christians today be living like Mennonites?

Hey Walter. Good points. Yes, I was speaking of the way that they live, as opposed to their theology, which I'm not really familiar with at all. I just know that they consider themselves to be Christian. Is there anyone out there who feels compelled to start to separate in what would be...

Hades/Sheol, and it's absence from reformed theology.

Hey The translation to the word "Hell" instead of Hades is misleading, not in the translation, but in the meaning of the word 'Hell' and the evolution in that meaning from the sixteenth century to now. The KJV translators didn't mean 'Hell' as we know it today. In meaning, Hell to them was...

Hades/Sheol, and it's absence from reformed theology.

Hey @Dave G The links provided in the OP addressed those things already already. Remember, Jesus told the thief on the cross next to Him that *today* he would be with Him in Paradise, not Hell. Start with the first link, "2)". The second link may help also. I'll get back and try to...

Should Christians today be living like Mennonites?

Did you know that Mennonites are anabaptist? So are Amish, for that matter. My family, at least partially comes from Pennsylvania Germans, who were also known as Pennsylvania Dutch. Maybe they were Amish. Anyways, spiritual warfare is a battle for the mind. Satan likes to use death by a...

No person can come to Christ by their own freewill ! 2

Bright There is context to consider. If we interpret every passage on an island, then we must also conclude that Peter was not saved, since he denied Jesus three times and Jesus said that anyone who denies Him before man, He will deny that person before the Father. And we must also conclude...

No person can come to Christ by their own freewill ! 2

Hi Wesley It's a fair question or point from cjab because so many people have different ideas of what free will actually is. I always like to start with the question: What are you claiming to be free from? Your definition is the right one, I agree. Though that freedom is the result of believing...

In the context if the Bible, is the word 'believe' the same as "faith'?

Hi Alan The Holy Spirit made me born again when He was placed into me by Jesus in response to my faith. Nope, it's all from Jesus. The atonement, the righteousness imputed to me. Being freed from the bondage of sin, born again. Romans 10:8-But what does it say? "The word is...

No person can come to Christ by their own freewill ! 2

That passage is not speaking of the Gospel, but rather it's speaking of the deeper truths of Scripture. You're going beyond the text with your interpretation.

In the context if the Bible, is the word 'believe' the same as "faith'?

Agreed. When does that life begin? Answer above in my previous posts. Agreed. It is by faith that we enter into this grace. Romans 5:1. Ephes. 2:8 says the same thing. It's all a gift from being placed into Christ, by the indwelling of the Holy spirit. It's a placing into, immersion...

In the context if the Bible, is the word 'believe' the same as "faith'?

That's why we are called temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16-17, 6:19) Also see John 14:15-17, Ez. 36:26-27, Eph 1:13. In the previous post, Romans 8:9-11 applies. along with Galatians 3:2-3.

In the context if the Bible, is the word 'believe' the same as "faith'?

Hi Alan Eternal life begins when we are born again. Which begins when we receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. You see, you said it yourself. Now we only need ask when do we receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit? Because we know that with the Spirit we are His, and have...

    What is AI?

This is AI, used for evil, as this never happened. Right after Shadeur Sanders was drafted.

No person can come to Christ by their own freewill ! 2

All these verses have context. John 5:40- Refusal does not equate to inability. A lot of the verses that you're quoting can be better understood within a bigger context. Many times those same people who could not believe, in fact did. Even the unbelieving Jews who were judicially hardened were...

In the context if the Bible, is the word 'believe' the same as "faith'?

Hey Van Notice that the Holy Spirit here is also called the Spirit of Christ. Romans 8:9-11 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead...

In the context if the Bible, is the word 'believe' the same as "faith'?

This is really for everybody. I found something interesting for you to read, if you like. Not the whole thing, but just a couple of posters. One post each. I give the poster Joseph kudos for making this connection. He's basically using the Paul vs. James debate to make the distinction between...
