    Noncals main flaw

He does call everyone through the gospel... I don't know of many who actually believe or teach this on either side of the isle. Its certainly not orthodox Arminianism and its also certainly not Baptist doctrine of any kind. You have been deceived my brother. You are confusing God's...

    Noncals main flaw

Can you quote even one notable non-Calvinist who teaches that for God to be GOOD it REQUIRES a sacrifice? Luke, even for you this is way over the top. I'm glad to see many from both sides soundly rebuke this unfounded rant. You can do better my friend.

    Who's Responsible?

We are RESPONSE - ABLED...Meaning we are ABLE TO RESPOND God holds us RESPONSE-ABLE, so there is no reason to suggest men are not ABLE TO RESPOND

Does Paul's conversion prove Calvinism's teaching on Irresistible Grace?

    1. The Lord does intercede. That is the heart of the gospel. That appeal to be reconciled is sufficient to enable a response from those God holds response-able. Why wouldn't the gospel be sufficient? 2. We are NOT born with stony hearts. Men's hearts 'become hardened' or 'grow calloused'...

Does Paul's conversion prove Calvinism's teaching on Irresistible Grace?

I agree. That passage is in reference to hardened Jews, and it is true that if they have hardened their hearts so much as to reject the clear teachings of men like Moses, then even miracles may not work. It most certainly proves the will is involved in the process though!

Does Paul's conversion prove Calvinism's teaching on Irresistible Grace?

If there is an example of irresistible grace, the story of Paul's conversion certainly represents it, but let's unpack it and see if it teaches what Calvinism suggests: 1. God has a purpose in electing Israel. To bring the Messiah and his message of redemption to the world. 2. God uniquely...

Should we put much stock in relatively NEW doctrine?

And is belief, like meritorious works of righteousness, unattainable? If so, why do you think so? Where is the biblical support for that? Is it possible that Calvinists have mistakenly taken passages which teach that attaining righteousness by works is impossible and applied that to their...

Should we put much stock in relatively NEW doctrine?

It exists in the same manner that some people think big foot exists...in their minds. If they think they can attain righteousness by works of the law then 'yes' it exists as a goal for them to pursue...but you are right, it is a mirage because it is not really there. That is what Paul is...

Should we put much stock in relatively NEW doctrine?

He was declared righteous, then...that's what I meant. in one text it says no one is righteous and in another it declares Abraham as righteous... You deny it and then affirm it... Righteousness pursed by way of merit is unattainable but righteousness imputed by God through faith IS attainable.

Should we put much stock in relatively NEW doctrine?

In Romans 3:9-10 Paul teaches that not one person is righteous, yet just one chapter later he declares that Abraham was righteous. Is this a contradiction? OR is Paul addressing two different types of 'righteousness?' Could this distinction help in our discussion regarding soteriology? Rom...

Should we put much stock in relatively NEW doctrine?

Well, I'm asking about the interpretation of those texts and many very intelligent linguists and scholars on both sides of this debate make some very strong cases for their perspective. Given that the Calvinistic interpretation of individual predestination wasn't introduced until the 4th...

doesn't the fall of Adam show that free will by itself cannot provide salvation?

Supposing someone does not sin in their lives. Maybe someone born in a comatose state, and never even becomes conscience. Would that merit their being saved? I don't believe so. I believe that they would need grace and Christ's provision just as much as you and I do. Don't you?

Should we put much stock in relatively NEW doctrine?

Yet, I have little doubt you and other Calvinists would be quick to make the exact same point if indeed the Early Church Fathers HAD clearly taught a doctrine similar to the one you hold. But there wasn't a lot of clearly opposing statements made about the triune nature of God by the early...

    Why? Why?

Calvinists argue that God's gift of salvation is not made in the form of an "appeal" (like Paul does in 2 Cor. 5), but in an irresistible or effectual manner (often referred to as 'regeneration'). Acts 7:51, like the 2 Cor 5 passage show that God's provisions/appeals are often resisted or...

Should we put much stock in relatively NEW doctrine?

Does anyone find it significant that this debate is virtually non-existent in Eastern Orthodoxy. Not that they don't have other issues of their own, but isn't it interesting that this is a uniquely Western point of debate? My Eastern friends tell me its because of the Westerns overly...

    Why? Why?

Unlike the Calvinistic posters who don't? These types of comments are what make such conversations 'wearisome.' Not according to many posters on this forum... Even in our system it was God's choice that was the deciding factor as there was nothing that obligated him to give grace to the...

Should we put much stock in relatively NEW doctrine?

It may occasion some surprise to discover that the doctrine of Predestination was not made a matter of special study until near the end of the fourth century. The earlier church fathers placed chief emphasis on good works such as faith, repentance, almsgiving, prayers, submission to baptism...

    Why? Why?

I'm siting you...you think we steal God's glory and yet you (or those who typically hold to Calvinistic theology) believe that God has decreed whatsoever comes to pass. Thus, I was just wondering why you think God decreed for us to 'steal his glory?' Seems like he would have decreed a world...

    Why? Why?

So, God decrees for Arminians to steal some of His Glory? I wonder why He made that decision?

    Why? Why?

Awww, good then maybe you caught the parallel I was attempting to highlight, because those of us who believe in the responsibility of man generally hold to the Sovereignty of God and Divine election as well. It goes both ways. Posts like this only serve to stir the pot as they ignore the...
