    TRACS Video

By the way, has anyone else driven by the TRACS headquarters in Lynchburg, VA? It pretty much epitomizes what I believe it to be as an accrediting agency. Unless Peter here cares to enlighten me to this video. Check it out (I think this will work)...

    TRACS Video

Peter, you've only been here briefly so let me catch you up. If you can't handle the little shade I threw at you or TRACS, then you probably won't last long here. And I would love to hear some good arguments for TRACS seeing as I have 2 degrees from a TRACS institution. I dropped out of a PhD...

    KJV vs NKJV

If you are attached to the TR, then the NKJV is the best way to go.

Can you please summarize? Not all of us have time to watch an hr video of a hack accreditation agency.

Did Jesus distribute the bread and fishes to 15,000 people in person?

The textual variant is so unimportant theologically, that this thread borders on silly. Even following the modern versions that do not include the bit about the disciples, it is probably assumed that Jesus did NOT personally hand out every bit of food but delegated to his disciples.

    Greek/Hebrew

Granted that... it still doesn't follow that this is the appropriate place for such a thread. The same is said of the Calvi and Armi forum. Most Calvies and Armies are for learning the original languages. But it still wouldn't fit there either. My gut tells me he is looking for a bias or skew...

    Theological Basis for Translation Method?

What do you mean there would be no reason??? There is reason enough if we see Jesus prescribe this kind of hermeneutic and observe its practice among the apostles and early church. Beyond that, this keeps us from moralizing the OT to simple stories we are to emulate and allows the gospel to...

    Theological Basis for Translation Method?

I was only quoting from someone. The onus was on them to define what they meant by "word for word" translations. As far as theology as a method of translation, I'm not convinced either way. In fact, theologically speaking, I see the need for various methods of translations just as I see the...

    Theological Basis for Translation Method?

Actually, I've been meaning to take that off since I meant for it to refer to something different than as would be used in a translation discussion. I am referring to the gospel accounts primarily. It is such a sub-category, I wasn't sure why I listed it in the first place. As it relates to...

    Theological Basis for Translation Method?

The absurdity was just to make a point. I also agree that terms need to be defined. But the definition is the heart of the matter, isn't it? I guess when it comes down to it, I see value in both formal and functional equivalent translations. I see the never-ending debate on this topic...

    Theological Basis for Translation Method?

This is a separate issue of interpretation, but let's just say I disagree. Not only do we see the apostles read the OT christologically, and not onlyd do we have the same Spirit in us, we also see the early church do the same as well. Thus Acts 15 is not just Luke theologizing from Amos but...

    Theological Basis for Translation Method?

You can actually hold the exact opposite with infallibility/inerrancy of the Bible. Or to say it another way, neither infallibility nor inerrancy demand a formal equivalent translation. If your reasoning was to be carried through, that of "seek[ing] to have the closest to that working as...

    Wright is Wrong on Justification

By the way, as a matter of proper respect, can we please stop calling him W. T. Wright. His name is N. T. Wright.

    Wright is Wrong on Justification

I'd be ok if imputation was re-evaluated. I see our right standing before God, that alien righteousness, as coming to us not via imputation but through union with Christ. That's for a different thread, however. I guess what frustrates me is that the latest quote of Wright above doesn't seem all...

More or less... what he said!

    Wright is Wrong on Justification

But that quote doesn't mention sacrament theology. And if I were to be a proponent of the NPP (and I do not have the same views of the sacraments as Wright does), then could I say the same thing as what you quoted from him above and it be damnable?

    Wright is Wrong on Justification

I'm not saying I agree here, but is what he says about justification here damnable? He is saying that the idea of justification is about membership in the covenant community beyond ethnic boundaries. I know you don't think his view of justification is correct. But is his view as stated here that...
