    I was born this way...

So, Winman, do you believe there are some people in heaven who are atoned for by Christ and others there because they are innocent and deserved to be their on the basis that they never sinned?

    Response-ability and Total Inability

It is not merely a command that implies response-ability and denies the concept of total inability... 1. It's RESPONSIBILITY that implies the ABILITY to RESPOND. 2. It's an APPEAL to be reconciled that implies the ability to respond so as to be reconciled. 3. It's an expression of God desire...

Did I ever say He did? No. I said the best answer to this question is to appeal to the goodness of God and to trust him with that decision. There are a few friends in my life that I could completely trust with the care of my children. Is God one of those persons? Yes. I trust Him to do...

    I was born this way...

I didn't argue for the 'bound to a predetermined nature,' I argued for federal headship and the inherited sin nature by which we have a propensity toward sin, but still the freedom to respond to God's appeal for reconciliation from that sin.

Or it could mean that the mercy shown is not irresistible but provisional, just like the snake lifted in the dessert, the passover sacrifice, or all the other provisional sacrifices in the OT.

When you learn to love and trust Him these types of question become much less difficult...that is for sure!

Guys, this is a Baptist only debate area and like it or not Baptists have historically affirmed the doctrine of Original Sin. Some people don't get to heaven on the basis of their own innocence, but there is ONLY one way, which is through Christ. "God has bound all men over to disobedience so...

The total inability of the Gospel

Oops. Added a "3" for some reason... 40:8 is what I meant...

That is the best answer to this question regardless of where you stand regarding the doctrine of depravity and original sin.

The total inability of the Gospel

I agree completely. Reformed has been very cordial and Christlike in all of his discussions with me thus far. It is very refreshing!

The total inability of the Gospel

Mark 4 and Matt. 13, where Jesus teaches that he is hiding the truth in parables from the Jewish leaders of that day so as to prevent them from believing and being forgiven, suggests that that the truth spoken clearly COULD lead to faith and healing. Jesus was intentionally hiding this truth...

The APPEAL to be reconciled to God

Does it have to be either/or? Can it be both/and? Could God appeal for the lost to obey a command? Can God 'long to gather' rebellious men? Can God 'hold out his hands' with long-suffering to those who are unwilling to obey? I disagree. It speaks to human response-ability, for how does one...

The total inability of the Gospel

Any text which refers to the power of the gospel, or the effectiveness of the Word of God would be supportive of my view. Also, just the common affirmation that God hold's men responsible for their response to the gospel message suggests that men are enabled to respond to it. The appeal (or...

The total inability of the Gospel

I'm attempting to show that our difference has less to do with what we believe about the nature of man, as we both affirm Original Sin and depravity. We both affirm man inherits the fallen nature. The REAL difference is our view of the gospel. I believe the gospel is powerful enough of an...

The total inability of the Gospel

Calvinism teaches that man's nature is totally unable to respond willingly even to the powerful Holy Spirit inspired gospel truth, yet they claim to still support the concept of human responsibility. How one can be unable to respond, but yet deemed response-able seems contradictory, to say the...

The APPEAL to be reconciled to God

Hyper Calvinism Many Calvinistic scholars believe this is a tendency of the young neo-Calvinism that is on the rise today and tends toward the heresy of "Hyper-Calvinism," which is actually a denial of historical reformed teaching... It is that school of supralapsarian 'five-point' Calvinism...

The APPEAL to be reconciled to God

In another thread which has been closed Biblicist (and other Calvinists) argued that the gospel call to reconciliation with God was NOT an appeal, but a command. I quoted this text, which clearly references the appeal (made by God through his ministers) to the world, "be reconciled to God." 2...

Could God create someone like Himself?

I will give you a million dollars right now if you can provide even one quote where I suggest that we are AS INDEPENDENT as God Almighty. Arguing that we have some attributes similar to that of God is a far cry from suggesting that we, finite CREATURES, are AS INDEPENDENT as the omnipotent...

    I was born this way...

Oh, ok. So back to the original question. When one who was born predetermined by God to be homosexual (effeminate) claims, "I was born this way, and God made me like this," do you affirm that claim? Or do you deny your doctrinal perspective and tell them they weren't born like that and God...
