    American revivalism and Teetotalism

This thread has gone off topic. It's about the history of the teetotalist movement.

    American revivalism and Teetotalism

Oh for the love of the gremlin! I just ordered the book "The Christian and drinking" using the scripture to defend total absence from alcohol. I will give the other side a fair read.

    American revivalism and Teetotalism

Well when the book arrives I will skip his forward. But has Jim West been arrested? Has RC Sproul Sr? Have I? No! So the drinking in moderation view still holds water.

    American revivalism and Teetotalism

I just learned something I did not know from a Reformed Baptist friend. Teetotalism is a recent position coming from the 19th century and a product of American revivalism just like the altar call. True or false? I am no historian so I wonder what book he got this fact from. I usually do not buy...

    Gluttony

Those that cannot control themselves need to not drink alcohol and need to stay far WY from it. However not all are like this. I for example can control myself and enjoy a drink here and again.

    Gluttony

No the very use of my time is to be out witnessing, open air preaching and also writing letters. However on occasion I like to read books and talk about alcohol because it interests me.

    Gluttony

I do not believe the Bible teaches that. What the Bible does teach however is to abstain from a drink in front of a brother if it causes him to stumble and fall into sin.

    Gluttony

I keep it to myself at home. I do not believe the Bible teaches prohibition from alcohol as what many IFB believe and personally enjoy a Mikes on occasion at home.

    Gluttony

No I am convicted about the scripture and dislike those that teach false doctrine regarding it.

    Gluttony

So those that do not do not love God? Look if a brother has a problem with alcohol and would fall back into sin then yes it would be best not to drink in front of him. However wine is a gift from God and we can drink if we desire just as long as we do not sin nor lead a brother into sin. The...

    Hey I deleted that comment!

    Gluttony

I never once said you could not be a teetotalism as if you feel you need to abstain then go right ahead and do so.

    Gluttony

But it may appear in the ESV/NIV more than twice.

A bad comparison. Alcohol/wine is often mentioned as a gift from God. What the Bible warns about is the sin of drunkenness and alcohol abuse. If you believe you need to abstain then go ahead and do so but your problem is trying to force your POV on others when the Bible does not teach...
