    Books on Textual Criticism

If you want a snooze-fest read, try The Early Text of the New Testament. Part 1 was really good. Part 2 was a feat to stay awake, unless you want to know about 2nd and 3rd century papyri stuff. I think it works better as a reference guide than a straight read through (which I did last summer)...

Scary moment as craxy man storms the pulpit at John MacArthur's church

Wow... and I almost watched that service live this past Sunday b/c my kid was sick.

    Children who die

What is most disappointing (but not surprising) is that Evangelist#### only asks questions but rarely dialogues when he is put to the test. If he claims to be a Calvinist, then this should not be that hard of an issue. Jesus will save HIS people from their sins. All elect babies go to be with...

    Children who die

You ask questions, but will you answer them??? Here is my response in the form of questions... to a Calvinist (?). (1) What is the criteria for God's election of you? (2) Would that same criteria not apply to all individuals no matter the age? Otherwise, what do you mean by "unconditional...

How do you organize your library of books?

Doesn't much help with arranging a library, or is there something there that makes suggestions?

How do you organize your library of books?

I currently separate my commentaries and Hebrew/Greek stuff from everything else. I put commentaries in canonical order. But the main bulk of my library is just everything (except fiction) organized by author. I have a small fiction, so that's not an issue. Does anyone have a good way to do...

    Author of confusion

Just a quick note: the word "author" is actually not in the Greek text in 1 Cor 14:33. YLT 1Co 14:33 for God is not a God of tumult, but of peace, as in all the assemblies of the saints.

    Books on Textual Criticism

AGain, I just said Sturz was extremely helpful. But the thrust of his argument is not Byzantine priority but simply that the Byzantine text-type should be taken seriously, as seriously as the others.

    Books on Textual Criticism

I've always thought that Holmes's chapter on Textual Criticism in Interpreting the New Testament (edited by Dr. Black btw) was a good intro. I was introduced to TC with Greenlee's book Introduction to New Testament Textual Criticism. Again, it is dated. Metzger's stuff is good, but it will be...

    John 3:16 ...whosoever...

The question was why you think kosmos is best translated as "fallen mankind". Could you point me to the post where you explain that with the wide semantic range of kosmos you feel "fallen mankind" is the best choice? After all, you simply quoting your translation doesn't solve anything.

    John 3:16 ...whosoever...

The difference, Van, is that I don't mind admitting that I use my theology to interpret. You won't admit it, but we all know it is true. I also use my interpretation to build my theology. This is the hermeneutical spiral. Nothing in the context of John 3 would require the meaning for kosmos to...
